A woman from UP who went to Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend has returned to India.

Anju, an Indian mother of two children who travelled to Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend, returned to India through the Wagah-Attari border on Wednesday, officials said.
Anju alias Fatima, 34, had travelled to a remote village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend Nasrullah, leaving her children in India.
Her 29-year-old Pakistani husband accompanied her up to the Wagah border.
On reaching India, she was not allowed to interact with the media and straightway went to the airport to catch a flight to Delhi.
At the Shri Guru Ramdas International Airport here, Anju was spotted wearing a burqa.
She told the media there, "I am here in India to meet my Indian family. I came back to India of my own volition...." Anju had travelled to Pakistan via the Wagah-Attari border in July with a visa, converted to Islam, changed her name to Fatima after getting married to Nasrullah, whom she had befriended on Facebook four years ago.
Anju's Indian husband Arvind had said that she left home on the pretext of going to Jaipur but later the family came to know that she was in Pakistan.
Anju, along with her Indian husband, used to live in the Bhiwadi area of Rajasthan.
She hails from Kailor village in Uttar Pradesh.
On Wednesday, Bhiwadi's Additional Superintendent of Police Dilip Saini said they had no information about the return of Anju.
Police sources said that Arvind no longer resides in Bhiwadi and has relocated to somewhere with their children.

Israel and Hamas said agreed to extend a temporary truce by another day minutes before it was set to expire, said Qatar, which has been mediating between the two sides.
The truce was set to expire Thursday morning. Negotiations on extending it came down to the wire, with last-minute disagreements over the hostages to be freed by Hamas in exchange for another day of a halt in fighting.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry said the truce was being extended under the same terms as in the past, under which Hamas has released 10 Israeli hostages per day in exchange for 30 Palestinian prisoners.
Earlier, before the truce was to expire, Israel released several Palestinian prisoners after Hamas freed 16 hostages.

As former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger passed away, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday recalled that in 1971 then US President Richard Nixon and Kissinger created huge headaches for India but then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her close aide P N Haksar proved &ldquo;more than a match for them&rdquo;.
Kissinger, who dominated foreign policy as the United States extricated itself from Vietnam, died Wednesday. He was 100.
In a post on X, Ramesh said, &ldquo;Henry Kissinger has passed away. He was as immensely consequential as he was hugely controversial.&rdquo; In his long and eventful life he has been both celebrated and condemned, Ramesh noted. &nbsp;&ldquo;But there can be no doubt about his sheer intellectual brilliance and awesome charisma,&rdquo; he said.
For the last three decades, he positioned himself as a great friend and supporter of India and indeed he was, Ramesh said.
&ldquo;But this was not always so and in 1971 especially, President Nixon and he created huge headaches for India and thought they had us cornered. However, Indira Gandhi and P N Haksar proved more than a match for them,&rdquo; the former Union minister said.
&ldquo;I have described the Kissinger-Haksar and Nixon-Indira Gandhi encounters with archival detail in my book 'Intertwined Lives: PN Haksar &amp; Indira Gandhi',&rdquo; Ramesh said.
He also pointed out that Gary Bass in his book 'The Blood Telegram: Nixon, Kissinger and a Forgotten Genocide' indicts Kissinger severely for his role in the events of 1971 leading up to the creation of Bangladesh.

MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "As regards the case against an individual that has been filed in a US court, allegedly linking him to an Indian official, this is a matter of concern. We have said that this is also contrary to government policy. The nexus between organised crime, trafficking, gunrunning and extremists at an international level is a serious issue for the law enforcement agencies and organisations to consider and it is for that reason that a high-level inquiry committee has been constituted and we will be guided by its results."
Regarding Canada's allegations against India, Bagchi said, "MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi says, "In so far as Canada is concerned, we have said that they have consistently given space to anti-India extremists and that is actually the heart of the issue. Our diplomatic representatives in Canada have borne the brunt of this. So, we expect the Government of Canada to live up to its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. We have also seen interference by Canadian diplomats in our internal affairs and that is unacceptable."

An Indian national, charged in connection with a plan to assassinate a Sikh separatist on American soil, agreed to the plot after being assured that a criminal case against him in Gujarat would be dismissed, federal prosecutors here have alleged.
Nikhil Gupta, 52, has been charged with murder-for-hire in connection with his participation in a foiled plot to assassinate a US citizen in New York City, according to a superseding indictment unsealed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
While the indictment does not name the US citizen who was the target of the assassination plot, The Financial Times, citing unnamed sources, last week reported that US authorities thwarted a plot to assassinate banned Sikhs for Justice&rsquo;s Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, and issued a warning to the Indian government over concerns it was involved in the plot.
In the indictment, prosecutors outline how Gupta agreed to the plot after being assured that a criminal case against him in Gujarat would be dismissed.
"Beginning in or about early May 2023, in a series of telephonic and electronic communications between CC-1 and Gupta over encrypted applications, CC-1 asked Gupta to arrange the murder of the Victim in exchange for CC-1's assistance in securing the dismissal of a criminal case against Gupta in India. Gupta agreed to orchestrate the assassination. In addition to their electronic communications, Gupta also met CC-1 in person in New Delhi in furtherance of the plot,&rdquo; the indictment said.
Prosecutors have said that CC-1 is an &ldquo;Indian government employee&rdquo; who directed the plot from India to assassinate on US soil &ldquo;an attorney and political activist who is a US citizen of Indian-origin residing in New York City," described as &ldquo;the victim&rdquo; in the indictment.
&ldquo;On or about May 6, 2023, at the outset of their conversation over a particular encrypted messaging application, CC-1 wrote Gupta: "This is (CC-1)... Save my name as (CC- 1 Alias)." Gupta saved the telephone number on Gupta&rsquo;s phone under an alias for CC-1. A few minutes later, CC-1 messaged Gupta that CC-1 had a "target in New York" and another target in &ldquo;California&rdquo;, the indictment said.
The indictment added that around "May 12, 2023, CC-1 notified Gupta that his criminal case "has already been taken care of," and that "nobody from Gujrat police is calling." On or about May 23, 2023, CC-1 again assured Gupta that CC-1 had "spoke[n] with the boss about your Gujarat (case)," that it was "all clear," and "nobody will ever bother you again." CC-1 further offered to arrange a meeting between Gupta and a "DCP," which is an acronym used in India for Deputy Commissioner of Police.&rdquo; &ldquo;Following CC-1 's assurances, GUPTA pressed forward to arrange the murder,&rdquo; the indictment said.
The murder-for-hire charge against Gupta carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
The indictment said that at CC-1&rsquo;s direction, Gupta contacted an individual whom he believed to be a criminal associate, but who was in fact a confidential source working with the DEA for assistance in contracting a hitman to murder the Victim in New York City.
The confidential source introduced Gupta to a purported hitman, who was in fact a DEA undercover officer.
CC-1 subsequently agreed in dealings brokered by Gupta to pay the undercover officer USD 100,000 to murder the Victim. Around June 9, 2023, CC-1 and Gupta arranged for an associate to deliver USD 15,000 in cash to the undercover officer as an advance payment for the murder. CC-1&rsquo;s associate then delivered the $15,000 to the undercover officer in Manhattan.
Gupta, described as an &ldquo;international narcotics trafficker&rdquo; was arrested in the Czech Republic at the request of the United States in June 2023 in connection with his participation in the plot.

Kissinger exerted uncommon influence on global affairs long after he left office. In July, for instance, he met Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing while U.S.-Chinese relations were at a low point.
Wang said both China and the United States should inherit and carry forward his "strategic vision, political courage, and diplomatic wisdom" in moving forward the relations.

Tens of thousands of protestors descended onto France&rsquo;s streets to demonstrate against the sharp rise of anti-semitism in the country. The crowd was joined by PM Elisabeth Borne, while President Emmanuel Macron verbally condemned the "unbearable resurgence&rdquo; of anti-semitism.
As more than 100,000 protested in Paris, Macron dealt with criticism after promoting a ceasefire as &ldquo;the only solution&rdquo; in Gaza.
&ldquo;A France where French people are afraid because of their religion or their origin is not France,&rdquo; Macron wrote in a separate social media post. &ldquo;No tolerance for the intolerable,&rdquo; he added.
French media reported that cities like Nice, Lyon and Marseille also saw large protests. Over 182,000 people converged onto the streets across the country.&nbsp;
France noted a huge spike in domestic anti-semitic incidents recently. Over 1,000 such incidents were reported in one month, increasing three times when compared to the entire 2022.

India has voted in favour of a draft resolution in the UN General Assembly that expressed deep concern over Israel not withdrawing from the Syrian Golan.
The Syrian Golan is a region in southwest Syria that was occupied by Israeli forces on June 5, 1967.
The 193-member UN General Assembly voted on the draft resolution &lsquo;The Syrian Golan&rsquo; under agenda item &lsquo;The situation in the Middle East&rsquo; on Tuesday. The resolution, introduced by Egypt, was adopted by a recorded vote with 91 in favour, eight against and 62 abstentions.
Apart from India, those voting in favour of the resolution included Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. Australia, Canada, Israel, the UK and the US voted against it. The resolution said it is deeply concerned that Israel has not withdrawn from the Syrian Golan, which has been under occupation since 1967, contrary to the relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
The resolution declared that Israel failed to comply with Security Council resolution 497 (1981), which decided that &ldquo;the Israeli decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights is null and void and without international legal effect.&rdquo; Tuesday's resolution also declared the Israeli decision of December 14, 1981, null and void and said it had no validity whatsoever. It called upon Israel to rescind its decision.
The resolution also stressed the illegality of the Israeli settlement construction and other activities in the occupied Syrian Golan since 1967.
It demanded Israel's withdrawal from all the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4, 1967, in implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions, and determined &ldquo;that the continued occupation of the Syrian Golan and its de facto annexation constitute a stumbling block in the way of achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.&rdquo; The resolution expressed grave concern over the halt in the peace process on the Syrian track and expressed hope that peace talks will soon resume from the point they had reached.&nbsp;

Five months after the Supreme Court legalised it, Nepal on Wednesday formally registered the first case of same-sex marriage, making it the first South Asian country to do so.
Trans-woman Maya Gurung, 35 and Surendra Pandey, 27, a gay, got legally married and their marriage was registered at Dordi Rural Municipality of Lamjung district in Western Nepal, according to Sanjib Gurung (Pinky), president of Blue Diamond Society, an organization working for the rights and welfare of the sexual minorities in Nepal.
Way back in 2007, Nepal&rsquo;s Supreme Court had allowed same-sex marriage. Even the Constitution of Nepal, adopted in 2015, explicitly states that there can be no discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
On June 27, 2023, the Supreme Court issued an interim order to legalise same-sex marriage in Nepal in a writ petition filed by multiple people, including Gurung. But despite the historic order to temporarily register same-sex marriage, Kathmandu District Court four months ago rejected the move citing a lack of necessary laws.
Surendra Pandey and Maya&rsquo;s marriage application was rejected at that time.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a great pleasure to learn about this, it is a great achievement for us, the third gender community of Nepal,&rdquo; Pinky told PTI. &ldquo;This is the first case not only in Nepal but also in the whole of South Asia, and we welcome the decision.&rdquo; Married in the traditional manner with the approval of their families, Surendra, a resident of Nawalparasi district, and Maya, a resident of Lamjung district, have been living together as husband and wife for the past six years.
&ldquo;There are many third-gender couples living without their identities and rights and this is going to help them a lot,&rdquo; Pinky said, adding that the door has now opened for other people of this community to get their marriage legalised.
&ldquo;Now their marriage has been temporarily registered and after the formulation of necessary laws, it will get permanent recognition automatically.&rdquo;&nbsp;

The charges against Gupta will build on a bare-bones indictment, filed in mid-June and unsealed in July, which alleged that he coordinated a USD15,000 advance payment to a purported hitman&rsquo;s associate.
It said Gupta was hired by the unnamed Indian official in or about May this year to orchestrate the assassination of a vocal critic of the Indian government and leads a U.S.-based organization that advocates for the secession of Punjab Gupta. It said Gupta then contacted an individual whom he believed to be a criminal associate, for assistance in contracting a hitman.
It said Gupta was given personal information of the person to be killed by the unnamed Indian official. The indictment stated that Gupta specifically instructed the hitman not to commit the murder around the time of anticipated engagements scheduled to occur in the ensuing weeks between high-level U.S. and Indian government officials.
On or about June 18, masked gunmen murdered Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia in Canada. Nijjar was an associate of the person who was to be killed in the US Gupta is charged with murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
Each count carries a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The United States has charged an Indian man for allegedly being involved in a plot to kill an American citizen in New York. The documents submitted by the US say that the target was a Sikh activist who advocated for a separate state of Khalistan.&nbsp;
US has claimed that an Indian government employee contacted Nikhil Gupta in May 2023 and &lsquo;recruited GUPTA to orchestrate the assassination of the Victim in the United States. &lsquo;
&lsquo;In or about May 2023, CC-1 recruited GUPTA to orchestrate the assassination of the Victim in the United States. &nbsp;The Victim is a vocal critic of the Indian government and leads a U.S.-based organization that advocates for the secession of Punjab, a state in northern India that is home to a large population of Sikhs, an ethnoreligious minority group in India,&rsquo; a press release on the US Justice Department website says.&nbsp;
The document adds that Gupta contacted an individual he believed to be a &lsquo;criminal associate&rsquo; but he was a &lsquo;confidential source&rsquo; working with the American Drug Enforcement Agency. Gupta wanted the associate to help him contract a hitman for the alleged assassination plot.&nbsp;
The associate introduced Gupta to a &lsquo;purported hitman, who was in fact a DEA undercover officer&rsquo;.&nbsp;
The indictment filed by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York says that the India government employee agreed through Nikhil Gupta to pay the &lsquo;hitman&rsquo; $100,000 for assassination.
&lsquo;In or about June 2023&rsquo;, the Indian govt employee gave Gupta personal information about the target including his number, address and schedule. Gupta then passed the details to the &lsquo;hitman&rsquo;. The US document says Gupta sent the Indian government employee regular surveillance photographs of the target.&nbsp;
US prosecutors have said that Gupta asked the &lsquo;hitman&rsquo;, who was a US undercover agent, to carry out the murder as soon as possible but asked him not to do anything &lsquo;around the time of anticipated engagements scheduled to occur in the ensuing weeks between high-level U.S. and Indian government officials.&rsquo;
On June 20, 2023 &ndash; two days after Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in Canada &ndash; Gupta sent the &lsquo;hitman&rsquo; a news article on the target and said the assassination was now a priority.&nbsp;
The indictment has not named the US citizen but The Financial Times, citing unnamed sources, last week reported that US authorities thwarted a plot to assassinate banned Sikhs for Justice&rsquo;s Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, and issued a warning to the Indian government over concerns it was involved in the plot.
