France: Tens of thousands join anti-semitism protests, President Macron snubs

Tens of thousands of protestors descended onto France’s streets to demonstrate against the sharp rise of anti-semitism in the country. The crowd was joined by PM Elisabeth Borne, while President Emmanuel Macron verbally condemned the "unbearable resurgence” of anti-semitism.

As more than 100,000 protested in Paris, Macron dealt with criticism after promoting a ceasefire as “the only solution” in Gaza.

“A France where French people are afraid because of their religion or their origin is not France,” Macron wrote in a separate social media post. “No tolerance for the intolerable,” he added.

French media reported that cities like Nice, Lyon and Marseille also saw large protests. Over 182,000 people converged onto the streets across the country.

France noted a huge spike in domestic anti-semitic incidents recently. Over 1,000 such incidents were reported in one month, increasing three times when compared to the entire 2022.
