Tropical Storm Flossie Gains Strength off Mexico's Coast

Mexico City, Jul 1 (AP) Tropical Storm Flossie gained strength off Mexico's southwestern Pacific coast on Monday afternoon, with projections indicating it could develop into a hurricane by nightfall.

Meanwhile, remnants of Tropical Storm Barry continued to bring significant rainfall to eastern Mexico.

Flossie intensified with maximum sustained winds reaching 100 km/h. The storm was located approximately 270 km southwest of Zihuatanejo and was moving northwest at over 19 km/h.

The Mexican government issued a tropical storm warning for the southwestern coast, spanning from Punta San Telmo to Playa Perula.

A tropical storm watch remained in place for the southwest coast from Zihuatanejo to Cabo Corrientes, indicating the possibility of tropical storm conditions within the next two days in that area.

Flossie is anticipated to rapidly intensify into a hurricane late Monday or early Tuesday, thereafter expected to track along the coast for several days.

While its center is forecast to stay offshore, moderate rain is likely in parts of Oaxaca, Guerrero, Michoacan, Colima, and Jalisco through early next week.
