Fatal Shooting in Rural Northern Ireland Leaves Two Dead

London, July 23 (AP) - A fatal shooting occurred in a rural part of Northern Ireland, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving two others seriously injured, police reported on Wednesday.

Authorities have not suggested a possible motive for the incident. However, Jemma Dolan, a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly from the region, described it on social media as “a domestic incident.”

The Police Service of Northern Ireland confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public following the shooting near the village of Maguiresbridge, approximately 120 kilometers southwest of Belfast.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, responded to a call at an address in the village shortly after 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

The victims with injuries are receiving treatment at two hospitals for serious conditions, according to the ambulance service.

Local lawmaker Deborah Erskine expressed that the community is “stunned” by the event, describing the location as “a rural, quiet area.” “Everyone is deeply affected by what has happened this morning,” she stated. “My deepest condolences are with the families of those who have been killed as a result of this incident. Their lives have been turned upside down this morning.” (AP) NPK NPK
