Through the post, NASA informed the users “The Martian crater marks the spot. You’re looking at 0° longitude on Mars, the Greenwich Observatory equivalent on the Red Planet."

'Earth equivalent of...': NASA's Mars crater image stuns netizens

An image from the red planet i.e., Mars has been shared by NASA on its official Instagram account. The image was captured by using the High-Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE), on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Through the post, NASA informed the users “The Martian crater marks the spot. You’re looking at 0° longitude on Mars, the Greenwich Observatory equivalent on the Red Planet."

Since the post was shared on Instagram, it has gained more than 4 lakh likes. The post garnered many reactions from the people.

NASA explained that the Airy Crater, which has been seen as the larger crater originally defined zero longitude for the red planet.

The crater was selected because it did not need to adjust existing maps.
