Did Imran Khan sell necklace he received as PM for Rs 18 crore?

Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency has begun a probe into allegations that ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan sold gifts received by him as head of the country.

According to Pakistani media reports, a necklace Imran Khan received as a gift during his time as prime minister was given to former special assistant Zulfi Bukhari instead of being sent to the state gift repository. Bukhari allegedly sold it to a jeweller in Lahore for Rs 18 crore. Reports state that a few lakh rupees were deposited into the state repository in lieu of the gift.

Bukhari has denied the allegations and tweeted on Tuesday that the report about him selling a necklace was a blatant lie. He said that it was a low blow attempt to discredit the former PM by a B grade media house.

As per Pakistan's law, state officials are required to submit the gifts they receive from dignitaries to govt repository. If they fail to submit the gift or at least half the amount the gift is worth, it is considered illegal.
