Harmeet Kaur and Rajesh Thakur have alleged that they were physically assaulted and their business was vandalized by Khalsa Aid for organizing the mela. Radical groups allegedly warned the couple to mark the festival as a religious event and not a cultural one, as per reports.
The couple further claimed that a man named Sarabjit Singh Pipli threatened them to disrupt the festival if they didn't change the name of the festival.
They apparently also received boycott calls on social media and have suspected the role of Khalistani supporters behind the threatening messages.
Bases out of South Australia&rsquo;s capital Adelaide, the couple's organization 'Punjabi Aussie Association of South Australia&rsquo; organize &lsquo;Vaisakhi Mela&rsquo; every year.

The petition added that this law was used for slaves under which a case can be registered at anyone's request.

Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) annulled Section 124-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) dealing with sedition, the Dawn newspaper reported.
Justice Karim pronounced the verdict in response to identical petitions seeking to annul the sedition law, the paper said.
One of the petitions, filed by a citizen named Haroon Farooq, which was identical to all other pleas urged the court to declare Section 124-A of the PPC as &ldquo;ultra-vires in terms of Article 8 of the Constitution being inconsistent with and in derogation of fundamental rights provided under Article 9, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19, 19A of the Constitution&rdquo;.
The law states: &ldquo;Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representation, or otherwise, brings or attempts to bring into hatred or contempt, or excites or attempts to excite disaffection towards, the Federal or Provincial Government established by law shall be punished with imprisonment for life to which fine may be added, or with imprisonment which may extend to three years, to which fine may be added, or with fine.&rdquo;
It was argued in the petition that the sedition act was enacted in 1860 which is a sign of British colonial rule, Geo News reported.
The petition added that this law was used for slaves under which a case can be registered at anyone's request.
It was stated in the petition that the Constitution of Pakistan gives every citizen the right to freedom of expression but still, Section 124-A is imposed for making speeches against the rulers.
According to the petition, the law has been recklessly used in Pakistan as a tool of exploitation to curb the right to free speech and expression guaranteed under Article 19 of the Constitution.
The petition said the law was serving as &ldquo;a notorious tool for the suppression of dissent, free speech and criticism in free and independent Pakistan&rdquo;.
Over the past few years, the petition argued, various politicians, journalists and activists had been booked under Section 124-A.

The grand jury, which meets in secret, voted to indict the 76-year-old former Republican president following an investigation led by the Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat.
While the indictment remains under seal, the charges against Trump are believed to relate to hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
The grand jury, which has been meeting since January, indicted Trump after hearing testimony from a number of witnesses.
Among those who testified was Trump's ex-personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, who has admitted arranging a $130,000 payment to Daniels to buy her silence about an affair she had with Trump in 2006.

Extra security has been in place for days around the Manhattan courthouse where Trump is expected to make his first appearance.
CBS News, citing Trump's defense team, said the plan is for the former president to surrender early next week. CBS said the Secret Service would be in charge of the arrangements.
Prior to an arraignment, a defendant has their fingerprints and a mugshot taken.
Trump, who insists he is "completely innocent," could refuse to surrender to the New York authorities, forcing them to seek his extradition from his Florida residence.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a potential Trump rival for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, said that his state would "not assist in an extradition request."
Legal experts said any attempt to fight extradition would at best result in a delay and Trump would eventually have to appear in New York to face the charges.
Once Trump is arraigned and enters a plea, there will be a series of preliminary court hearings to set a date for a trial and decide on witnesses and evidence.

The American government on 3 January 2023 reacted to China's threats of "countermeasures" after some countries imposed special rules on travellers from China as the country sees a massive Covid surge.
The Joe Biden government said that there is no reason for Beijing to "retaliate" as countries are taking "prudent measures to protect their citizens". The White House said that the decisions are based on "public health and science", and recommended by experts.
China had called the travel rules "unacceptable" and without "scientific basis".
America had earlier criticised Beijing for lack of transparency in furnishing of Covid data amid a wave of infections.

Italy has blocked chatbot ChatGPT with immediate effect and launched an investigation after its data protection authority accused its makers, OpenAI of stealing data of its users.
With this, Italy has become the first European country to block the advanced Artificial Intelligence software, which is capable of emulating and elaborate human conversations among other actions.
A data breach affecting ChatGPT users' conversations and information on payments by subscribers to the service had been reported on March 20, the Italian watchdog said.
Several countries like China, Russia, Iran and North Korea have blocked ChatGPT, which came into existence in November 2022.

In a statement on Thursday, the Met said it will transfer the 15 sculptures for return to the government of India. The works range in date from the 1st century BCE to the 11th century CE, and include terracotta, copper and stone.
All of the works were sold at one point by Subhash Kapoor, who is currently serving a prison sentence in India.
The value of the 15 Indian antiquities listed in the search warrant has been estimated as $1.201 million (nearly Rs 9.87 crore).

US' Georgia Assembly has passed a resolution condemning Hinduphobia, making it the first American state to take such a legislative measure.
Condemning Hinduphobia and anti-Hindu bigotry, the resolution said Hinduism is one of the world's largest and oldest religions with over 1.2 billion adherents in over 100 countries and encompasses an array of diverse traditions and belief systems with values of acceptance, mutual respect and peace.
The resolution was introduced by representatives Lauren McDonald and Todd Jones from Forsyth County in the suburbs of Atlanta, home to one of the largest Hindu and Indian-American communities in Georgia.&nbsp;
Stating that there have been documented instances of hate crimes against Hindu-Americans over the last few decades in many parts of the country, the resolution said Hinduphobia is exacerbated and institutionalised by some in academia who support the dismantling of Hinduism and accuse its sacred texts and cultural practices of violence and oppression.

The new 42-page document singled out ties with China and India, stressing the importance of "the deepening of ties and coordination with friendly sovereign global centers of power and development located on the Eurasian continent."
India and Russia maintained a close strategic, military, economic, and diplomatic interaction during the Cold War. Both Russia and India refer to this alliance as being unique and privileged.
The strategic partnership between India and Russia is based on five main pillars --politics, defence, civil nuclear energy, counter-terrorism cooperation, and space. India and Russia celebrated the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
According to the document, Russia will continue to build a particularly privileged strategic partnership with India with a view to enhancing and expanding cooperation in all areas on a mutually beneficial basis and place special emphasis on increasing the volume of bilateral trade, strengthening investment and technological ties, and ensuring their resistance to destructive actions of unfriendly states and their alliances.
