Climate activists glue their hands to a statue in Vatican Museum

A group of environmental activists released footage Thursday of a protest they said they had staged at the Vatican Museum, where they glued themselves to a famous statue.

The activists from the group Ultima Generazione, or 'Last Generation', said in a note to journalists that two members of their group glued their hands on the plinth of the Roman statue of Lacoon, one of the masterpieces of the Vatican Museums collection, to protest against climate change.

The activists displayed a banner reading, "Last Generation No Gas No Coal" urging politicians to listen to the call from the scientific community and act against climate change.

The activists said museum staff temporarily closed the section where they had staged their protest before being moved away.

The museum did not offer a comment about the action.
