China approves world's first inhaler Covid-19 vaccine

China has approved the world's first inhaled version of Covid-19 vaccine. Now people can get themselves vaccinated without bearing the pain of a needle. The new vaccine will pave the way for the potential use of needle-free product in the country.

The vaccine has been approved for emergency use as a booster dose by China's medicines regulator.

Vaccine maker 'CanSino Biologics' which has named the product 'Convidecia Air' said the vaccine dose is turned into mist by a nebuliser that is then inhaled by mouth.

The World Health Organization in a report stated that CanSino's new product is one of the two specifically 'inhaled' vaccines which have reached clinical phase development. It added that several firms worldwide are researching ways to shield people from Covid-19 vaccine via nouse and mouth.

Meanwhile, India too has approved a needle free vaccine. A nasal dose developed by Bharat Biotech has been granted approval by the drug regulator for restricted emergency use in adults.
