Buddha Air flight makes emergency landing at Kathmandu airport

A Buddha Air flight with 76 people on board made an emergency landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on January 6 after experiencing a left engine flameout. Flight BHA953, which had departed from TIA at 10:37 AM local time and was en route to Chandragadi, encountered the engine issue and initiated a VOR (Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range) approach to Kathmandu at 11:15 AM, as confirmed by a press release from the Tribhuvan International Airport and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

The flight had 72 passengers and 4 crew members aboard. Buddha Air later confirmed the incident on X, stating, "Flight number 953 from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, with call sign 9N-AJS, was diverted back to Kathmandu after a technical issue was detected in the right engine. The aircraft safely landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 11:15 AM."

The airline also assured passengers that its technical team was inspecting the aircraft, and arrangements were being made to send passengers to Bhadrapur on a different flight. Meanwhile, TIA temporarily suspended other operations during the emergency landing of the Buddha Air flight.
