Brazil truckers block roads in protest over Lula win

Truckers in support of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro blocked the main highway linking Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro on Monday in a protest against former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's election victory.

They parked dozens of vehicles on Dutra Road in a demonstration which aimed to show their dissatisfaction about the result in Latin America's largest democracy.

Bolsonaro's rival, former president and left-leaning ex-union leader da Silva had won a runoff vote on Sunday night with 50.9% of the votes, to Bolsonaro’s 49.1%.

Nearly a full day after Bolsonaro lost his bid for reelection, the usually brash right-wing leader had neither conceded defeat nor challenged the results of the country's closest political contest in more than three decades.

Bolsonaro hadn't spoken a word to reporters camped outside the official residence or the supporters who regularly gather nearby.

Nor did he post on his otherwise prolific social media platforms.

As the country waited to hear from Bolsonaro, President-elect da Silva met with Argentina's President Alberto Fernandez in Sao Paulo.

Fernandez was the first foreign leader to meet da Silva since his victory was announced on Sunday.
