Samantha Cristoforetti is the first person to make a TikTok video on board the International Space Station (ISS)

Samantha Cristoforetti, the Italian who holds the record for the longest uninterrupted spaceflight by a European astronaut is making waves for another piece of history she is a part of.

Cristoforetti is the first person to make a TikTok video on board the International Space Station (ISS).

She is Italy's first woman astronaut and on her second space mission, Cristoforetti is helping TikTok reach new 'heights'.

In 2014, she travelled to space for the first time. Her mission lasted for 199 days — a record for the longest mission in space by a woman. Cristoforetti's record was broken in 2017 by Peggy Whitson.

She returned to space in 2022 and has an audience following her every move.

Her TikTok videos range from launching from Earth, to settling in at the ISS. She also sprinkles in references from the sci-fi books The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

One video created in memory of the series' author Douglas Adams garnered over 17 million views on the video-blogging platform.

In the video, Cristoforetti shows viewers how a wet towel behaves in weightlessness, while declaring she is "a hoopy frood who always knows where her towel is" — a well-known quote among Hitchhikers fans.

Another video posted in May Cristoforetti gives her viewers a small tutorial for floating in space. Over the span of the 48-second video, she demonstrates different ways a person can float across the ISS ranging from beginner level to advanced techniques.

Cristoforetti's videos have a huge following and manage to more than a few thousand views with their jovial sense of style.
