Angelina Jolie visits Ukraine, meets displaced people in Lviv

Hollywood star and UN ambassador Angelina Jolie made a surprise visit to the Lviv region in Ukraine on Saturday. According to Ukrainian officials she had made the trip to speak with displaced people who have found refuge in Lviv, including children undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the missile strike on the Kramatorsk railway station in early April.

At least 52 people were killed and dozens wounded when the station was hit on 8 April.

She visited a medical institution and talked to staff and local officials about the impact of the conflict on their lives.

Jolie was a Goodwill Ambassador for the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) from 2001 until 2012, when she was made a Special Envoy.

However, according to media reports, she traveled to Ukraine in a private capacity.
