Days after a passenger on an Air India flight was booked for allegedly indulging in unruly behaviour and smoking inside the plane, he refused to pay the bail amount, and instead opted to go to jail.

He claimed that he had read online that that the fine payable under section 336 of the IPC is ₹250, which he is ready to pay, but not the bail amount. Following this, he was sent to jail, as per news agency PTI.
Air India had said a passenger was found smoking in the lavatory of the flight and behaved in an unruly and aggressive manner, despite repeated warnings.
According to Mumbai Police, the accused also caused a disturbance on the aircraft and endangered the lives of all passengers, besides disobeying the pilot's oral and written instructions to keep calm.

A case has been registered against a US citizen for allegedly smoking in the bathroom and misbehaving with other passengers on Air India London-Mumbai flight, said Mumbai Police on Sunday.

According to the Mumbai Police, a case has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 336 (whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and Aircraft Act 1937, 22 (refuse to follow a lawful instruction given by the Pilot-in-Command), 23 (Assault and other acts endangering safety or jeopardizing good order and discipline) and 25 (for smoking).
After the flight landed, the passenger Ramkant was handed over to the Sahar police. Where he was taken into custody and booked under various sections of the IPC. The Police said that the accused is of Indian origin but a citizen of the United States of America and holds a US passport.
"We have sent the sample of the accused for medical test to confirm whether he was in an inebriated state or mentally disturbed," the police added

The ALH Dhruv has become one of the important parts of helicopter missions undertaken by all three forces involved n different terrains they are deployed.

In a move to give a big relief to domestic carriers, the Maharashtra government has announced a reduction in the value added tax levied on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) to 18 per cent from 25 per cent.&nbsp;
The new rate will be applicable in Mumbai, Pune and Raigad districts, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced in his budget speech. Maharashtra levies 4 per cent VAT on ATF in districts except Mumbai and Pune. According to reports, the new rate could help in reducing fuel expenses for airlines as they rework their fueling uplift plans but it is not expected to add to many new flights as both Mumbai and Pune airports are constrained for slots. Fuel costs account for 30-40 per cent of the airlines' expenses.&nbsp;The issue of reduction in Value-Added Tax (VAT) on ATF was taken up with states/Union Territories levying high VATs on ATF and many of them reduced the tax on aviation fuel in the last many months.
To ensure financial viability in the sector, Union aviation minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia has been asking states to cut VAT on ATF.&nbsp;
"In a scenario of high fuel prices, this step will prove to be a catalyst in our efforts to ramp up air connectivity. With this, Maharashtra joins the league of total 19 States/UTs that have rationalised VAT rates in the last 1.5 years. Alongside enhanced connectivity for Mumbai, Pune &amp; Raigad, this will also make travel more affordable, and boost growth", said Scindia in a tweet.&nbsp;

Currently, the lowest airfares offered on most domestic routes include the provision of a cabin bag weighing up to 8 kg and check-in luggage weighing 15-25 kg, and no Indian airline offers cabin baggage-only fares.

While the resultant full-service carrier will be known as Air India, Wilson emphasised that efforts will be made to retain some of the "Vistara heritage in that new manifestation". On November 29 last year, Tata Group announced the merger of Vistara with Air India under a deal wherein Singapore Airlines will also acquire a 25.1 per cent stake in Air India.
The deal, which will make Air India the country's largest international carrier and second-largest domestic carrier, is expected to be completed by March 2024, subject to regulatory approvals.

The government is preparing to privatise the low cost carrier Alliance air and India's largest MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) player Air India Engineering services, simultaneously.&nbsp;
"The process of disinvestment of both the companies will be done simultaneously. Expressions of interest (EoIs) will be invited by the government in due course", Rajiv Bansal, civil aviation secretary said while speaking at the CAPA India Aviation Summit.&nbsp;
Bansal mentioned that the first and second steps of holding roadshows for the divestment of AIESL and the second step of approval from the group of ministers are completed. The final approval from the Alternative Mechanism for Disinvestment, a top ministerial panel, is awaited following which the expressions of interest will be invited, as per a report by Financial Express&nbsp;
AIESL, AIASL, and AAAL were subsidiaries of Air India when the government owned it. However, they were not part of Air India's privatisation. The Tata group took control of Air India from the government in January last year.
The divestment of Alliance Air has been in the works since the middle of last year but there hasn&rsquo;t been any formal EOI so far.

Air India has said that it will reduce the number of flights plying on some American routes on a temporary basis.
Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson on 20 March 2023 said that the frequency of flights will be reduced due to crew shortage issues. In recent months, some long-haul flights have been impacted due to crew shortage issues, as per the news agency PTI.
Wilson made the comments while speaking at the CAPA India Summit in Delhi.
Tata Group took control of loss-making Air India along with Air India Express and 50 per cent stake in AIATSL in January 2022.
Air India has put in place a road map under Vihaan.AI for transformation over a five-year period and has taken various measures, including committing USD 400 million to refurbish the interiors of its entire wide-body fleet.
Last month, the airline announced placing orders for 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, including 70 wide-body planes. Out of the total, 250 will be from Airbus and 220 from Boeing. There is also an option to purchase additional 370 aircraft from the two plane makers.
Besides, the merger of AirAsia India, rebranded as AIX Connect, with Air India Express as well as the merger of Vistara with Air India has been initiated.
