Colombo, Jun 20 (PTI) At least 85 Chinese nationals convicted of cybercrimes have been deported from Sri Lanka, according to officials at Colombo International Airport.

A total of 130 Chinese citizens, including 22 women, were apprehended by police in the town of Kundasale, located in the central province, for involvement in cybercrime activities.

The suspects were brought before a magistrate in Teldeniya.

Authorities seized over 200 mobile phones, more than 100 laptops, and various IT equipment from their possession.

The court has ordered that the seized equipment be handed over to the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.

Following the court's directive, 122 out of the 130 individuals were transferred to an immigration detention center, while seven managed to evade court proceedings.

Eighty-five individuals were transported to the airport in five buses and subsequently deported on a flight to Guangzhou, China, officials confirmed.
