4-day work week? World's biggest trial begins in UK

Over 70 UK companies with a combined workforce of over 3,300 employees have started what is being called the world's biggest trial of a 4-day work week.

It's a six-month pilot project and is being conducted by 4 Day Week Global in partnership with the thinktank Autonomy, the 4 Day Week Campaign, and researchers at Cambridge University, Oxford University and Boston College.

Companies participating in the trial range from local fish-and-chips shops to large financial businesses.

Based on what is being called a 100:80:100 model, the employees will get 100% pay for working 80% of time while maintaining 100% output.

The concept of a 4-day work week has gained momentum with companies looking to bring in flexibility in working to create a happier workforce in a post-pandemic world.
