30 Chinese planes enter Taiwan's air defence zone, biggest incursion since January

Days after US President Joe Biden warned China against invading Taiwan, 30 Chinese warplanes entered the Taiwan air defence zone on Monday.

Taiwan says it deployed fighter jets to warn off the warplanes sent by China.

The Chinese aircrafts entered an area to the northest of the country, which is a part of Taiwan's defence identification zone or ADIZ. The planes didn't cross over into Taiwan's airspace itself, which would have been regarded as an act of hostility.

ADIZ is recognised as an area outside a country's territory but which is still monitored and controlled in the interest of national security. It technically remains international airspace.

The incident is the biggest incursion since January and comes shortly after Quad members met in Japan. Invasion of Taiwan, Biden had warned recently, would lead to the US militarily defending the Island.

According to reports, China has stepped up its frequency of air missions in recent months, claiming them to be training drills.

China regards Taiwan as its province even though the country has had separate governance for decades now.
