100 tonnes of dead fish pulled out from Oder river in Poland

What you are looking at are large swathes of dead fish along the shore of Oder river in Poland.

The reason behind huge piles of dead fish is uncertain but enormous quantities of chemical waste dumped into the river is suspected to be the most probable reason behind the event.

Water samples have been sent to laboratories in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Britain in the hopes of finding the cause.

More than 500 firefighters have been recovering the dead fish in Poland with the help of excavators, dams, boats, quad bikes and even a drone.

An official at national firefighter press office was even quoted as saying that they had never done such a large scale operation on a river before.

Conservationists are feared that the mass die-off could wreak havoc on the entire ecosystem of the Oder.
