External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his counterparts from the SCO member nations on Tuesday met Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In a social media post, Jaishankar said he apprised President Xi about the recent development in India-China bilateral ties.
The external affairs minister landed in China on Monday on a two-day visit to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). It is his first visit to China since bilateral ties witnessed a severe downturn following the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020.
"Called on President Xi Jinping this morning in Beijing along with my fellow SCO Foreign Ministers," Jaishankar said on 'X'.

Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla Chief Elon Musk and Blackstone's Steve Schwarzman were among the guests at a gala dinner in San Francisco organised for Chinese President Xi Jinping. The event follows the day-long bilateral meet between the Chinese and the US Presidents.

The event was hosted by the US-China Business Council and the National Committee on US-China Relations. As per Reuters, during the dinner, Xi got a standing ovation from America's corporate leaders, including Cook and Schwarzman. The report further mentioned that this enthusiastic reception from prominent figures in the business world indicates their support for the Chinese president. This could become significant if the political tensions escalate.

During the dinner, US corporate leaders also had opportunities to engage with high-ranking ministers from China. The dinner hosted more than 300 executives and officials.
During his speech in the dinner, Xi reportedly emphasised on an enduring relationship between China and U.S. He even posed a question of wheather the US and China are adversaries or partners to the dinner guests. Xi then went on to emphasise that viewing each other as competitors could lead to misinformed policies and unwanted outcomes, asserting that Beijing was ready to be a partner and friend of the US.
&ldquo;Whatever stage of development it may reach, China will never pursue hegemony or expansion, and will never impose its will on others &hellip;,&rdquo; Xi said.
Several media reports noted that Xi's conciliatory tone was well-received by many attendees, who believe that increased engagement between the US and China could lead to improved bilateral relations.
However, the economic slowdown that China is facing currently has created a wave of doubt among many US companies about making substantial investments in China. The evolving economic competition and political dynamics have also introduced uncertainties, making some businesses hesitant about expanding their presence in China.

Former Premier Li Keqiang, China's top economic official for a decade, died Friday of a heart attack. He was 68.
Li was China's No. 2 leader from 2013-23 and an advocate for private business but was left with little authority after President Xi Jinping made himself the most powerful Chinese leader in decades and tightened control over the economy and society.
CCTV said Li had been resting in Shanghai recently and had a heart attack on Thursday. He died at 12:10 a.m. Friday.
Li, an English-speaking economist, was considered a contender to succeed then-Communist Party leader Hu Jintao in 2013 but was passed over in favor of Xi. Reversing the Hu era's consensus-oriented leadership, Xi centralized powers in his own hands, leaving Li and others on the party's ruling seven-member Standing Committee with little influence.
As the top economic official, Li promised to improve conditions for entrepreneurs who generate jobs and wealth. But the ruling party under Xi increased the dominance of state industry and tightened control over tech and other industries. Foreign companies said they felt unwelcome after Xi and other leaders called for economic self-reliance, expanded an anti-spying law and raided offices of consulting firms.

Li was dropped from the Standing Committee at a party congress in October 2022 despite being two years below the informal retirement age of 70.
The same day, Xi awarded himself a third five-year term as party leader, discarding a tradition under which his predecessors stepped down after 10 years. Xi filled the top party ranks with loyalists, ending the era of consensus leadership and possibly making himself leader for life. The No. 2 slot was filled by Li Qiang, the party secretary for Shanghai, who lacked Li Keqiang's national-level experience and later told reporters that his job was to do whatever Xi decided.
Li Keqiang, a former vice premier, took office in 2013 as the ruling party faced growing warnings the construction and export booms that propelled the previous decade's double-digit growth were running out of steam.
Government advisers argued Beijing had to promote growth based on domestic consumption and service industries. That would require opening more state-dominated industries and forcing state banks to lend more to entrepreneurs.
Li's predecessor, Wen Jiabao, apologized at a March 2012 news conference for not moving fast enough.
In a 2010 speech, Li acknowledged challenges including too much reliance on investment to drive economic growth, weak consumer spending and a wealth gap between prosperous eastern cities and the poor countryside, home to 800 million people.
Li was seen as a possible candidate to revive then-supreme leader Deng Xiaoping's market-oriented reforms of the 1980s that started China's boom. But he was known for an easygoing style, not the hard-driving impatience of Zhu Rongji, the premier in 1998-2003 who ignited the construction and export booms by forcing painful reforms that cut millions of jobs from state industry.
Li was believed to have supported the &ldquo;China 2030&rdquo; report released by the World Bank and a Cabinet research body in 2012 that called for dramatic changes to reduce the dominance of state industry and rely more on market forces.
The Unirule Institute, an independent think tank in Beijing, said state industry was so inefficient that its return on equity &mdash; a broad measure of profitability &mdash; was negative 6%. Unirule later was shut down by Xi as part of a campaign to tighten control over information.
In his first annual policy address, Li in 2014 was praised for promising to pursue market-oriented reform, cut government waste, clean up air pollution and root out pervasive corruption that was undermining public faith in the ruling party.
Xi took away Li's decision-making powers on economic matters by appointing himself to head a party commission overseeing reform.
Xi's government pursued the anti-graft drive, imprisoning hundreds of officials including former Standing Committee member Zhou Yongkang. But party leaders were ambivalent about the economy. They failed to follow through on a promised list of dozens of market-oriented changes. They increased the dominance of state-owned banks and energy and other companies.
Xi's government opened some industries including electric car manufacturing to private and foreign competition. But it built up state-owned &ldquo;national champions&rdquo; and encouraged Chinese companies to use domestic suppliers instead of imports.
Borrowing by companies, households and local governments increased, pushing up debt that economists warned already was dangerously high.
Beijing finally tightened controls in 2020 on debt in real estate, one of China's biggest industries. That triggered a collapse in economic growth, which fell to 3% in 2022, the second-lowest in three decades.
Li showed his political skills but little zeal for reform as governor and later party secretary of populous Henan province in central China in 1998-2004.
Li earned the nickname &ldquo;Three Fires Li&rdquo; and a reputation for bad luck after three fatal fires struck Henan while he was there. A Christmas Day blaze at a nightclub in 2000 killed 309 people. Other officials were punished but Li emerged unscathed.
Meanwhile, provincial leaders were trying to suppress information about the spread of AIDS by a blood-buying industry in Henan.
Li's reputation for bad luck held as China suffered a series of deadly disasters during his term.
Days after he took office, a landslide on March 29, 2013, killed at least 66 miners at a gold mine in Tibet and left 17 others missing and presumed dead.

In the eastern port of Tianjin, a warehouse holding chemicals exploded Aug. 12, 2015, killing at least 116 people.
A China Eastern Airlines jetliner plunged into the ground on March 22, 2022, killing all 132 people aboard. Authorities have yet to announce a possible cause.
Li oversaw China's response to COVID-19, the first cases of which were detected in the central city of Wuhan. Then-unprecedented controls were imposed, shutting down most international travel for three years and access to major cities for weeks at a time.
In one of his last major official acts, Li led a Cabinet meeting that announced Nov. 11, 2022, that anti-virus controls would be relaxed to reduce disruption after the economy shrank by 2.6% in the second quarter of the year. Two weeks later, the government announced most travel and business restrictions would end the following month.
Li was born July 1, 1955, in the eastern province of Anhui and by 1976 was ruling party secretary of a commune there.
Studying law at Peking University, he was the campus secretary of the ruling party's Communist Youth League, an organization that launched the political careers of former party leaders Hu Jintao and Hu Yaobang. He was a member of the League's Standing Committee, a sign he was seen as future leadership material.
After serving in a series of party posts, Li received his Ph.D. in economics in 1994 from Peking University.
Following Henan, Li served as party secretary for Liaoning province in the northeast as part of a rotation through provincial posts and at ministries in Beijing that was meant to prepare leaders. He joined the party Central Committee in 2007.&nbsp;

In a letter to Xi, Kim vows to promote cooperative relations with China

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to promote cooperative relations with China in a letter to President Xi Jinping, the North's state media KCNA reported on Sunday.
The letter was in response to congratulations Xi sent for the North's founding anniversary this month where the Chinese president had expressed his willingness to strengthen strategic communication and working-level cooperation.
"I believe ... the DPRK-China friendly and cooperative relations would steadily develop in conformity with the requirements of the new era and the desire of the two peoples in the future," Kim said in the letter sent on Thursday.
DPRK is the initials of the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to Russia on Monday to hold crucial talks with his counterpart Vladimir Putin, the foreign ministry announced on Friday, amid reports that Beijing plans to initiate peace talks to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying in a brief announcement said, "at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Russia from March 20 to 22&rdquo;. No other details were given.
This will be Xi&rsquo;s first overseas trip after getting endorsed for an unprecedented third five-year term as the President and head of the military early this month by the National People&rsquo;s Congress (NPC).

China's parliament on Saturday confirmed President Xi Jinping&rsquo;s trusted ally Li Qiang as the new Premier to revive the world's second-largest economy hit by three years of 'zero-Covid' restrictions and worsening relations with the West.
Li Qiang, 63, succeeds Li Keqiang, 67, who held the post for the last 10 years.
The annual session of the National People&rsquo;s Congress (NPC), a largely ceremonial body which routinely passes the proposals of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), approved Li Qiang&rsquo;s candidature after his name was proposed by Xi himself.
However, his &ldquo;election&rdquo; unlike that of Xi was not unanimous.
He was endorsed by 2,936 of the 2,947 NPC members who attended Saturday&rsquo;s meeting, with three voting against and eight abstaining, the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post newspaper reported.
After the voting, Xi signed a Presidential decree appointing Li Qiang as Premier following which he took a pledge of allegiance to the Constitution.
Later Xi shook hands with Li Qiang in brief video clips shown on national television.

Xi, 69, was re-elected by the once-in-a-five-year Congress of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) as its leader in October last year, becoming the first Chinese leader after the party founder Mao Zedong to continue in power beyond the two five-year terms.
China&rsquo;s legislature, the National People&rsquo;s Congress (NPC) often described as the rubber stamp Parliament, for its mechanical and routine endorsement of the decisions of the CPC on Friday voted on the expected lines ratifying Xi&rsquo;s third term.
Xi is widely expected to continue in power for life.
The NPC, besides ratifying Xi's Presidency, also endorsed his continuation as the Chairman of the powerful Central Military Commission, the head of the two-million-strong People&rsquo;s Liberation Army, which is the largest military in the world.

Three years after the coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Beijing this month began ditching its hardline containment policy known as "zero-Covid".
Chinese hospitals have since been hit by a flood of mostly elderly patients, crematoriums have been overloaded and many pharmacies have run out of fever medications.
"Epidemic prevention and control is entering a new phase... Everyone is working resolutely, and the light of hope is right in front of us," Xi said in a televised address for the New Year.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping is attending a pair of regional summits in Saudi Arabia this week amid efforts to kick-start economic growth weighed down by strict anti-COVID-19 measures.
The Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Xi will attend the inaugural China-Arab States Summit and a meeting with leaders of the six nations that make up the Gulf Cooperation Council in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
His state visit to Saudi Arabia will end on Saturday.
Xi's attendance at the China-Arab States Summit marks the &ldquo;largest and highest-level diplomatic event between China and the Arab world since the founding of the People's Republic of China and will become an epoch-making milestone in the history of China-Arab relations," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told reporters at a daily briefing on Wednesday.

Mao said China hopes the summit will set a future agenda for relations between the sides and &ldquo;help build more strategic common understandings on major regional and international issues ... and defend multilateralism." The last was an apparent reference to China's efforts to challenge the US-dominated international order that has seen Beijing find common cause with Russia, Iran and other states hostile to Washington.
Xi's visit underscores China's role as the world's second-largest economy and a major source of outward investment, lately under the rubric of Xi's signature &ldquo;Belt and Road Initiative" and the more recent &ldquo;Global Development Initiative." Those programs aim to have Chinese companies build and finance roads, power stations, ports and other infrastructure across Asia and beyond, vastly increasingly Beijing's influence in the developing world.
So far, they've met with only limited success, amid accusations that many of the projects are impracticable, overpriced and unaffordable to the mostly poor nations taking them on.
To fuel China's massive demand, the country imports half of its oil. Fully half of those imports come from Saudi Arabia, amounting to tens of billions of dollars annually.
China's economic growth had been on a steady decline for years and was dealt a major blow by rolling lockdowns imposed across the country as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chinese economic growth rebounded to 3.9 per cent over a year earlier in the three months ending in September, up from the first half of the year's 2.2 per cent, but still well short of the government target.
On Wednesday, China announced a series of measures rolling back some of its most draconian anti-COVID-19 restrictions, including limiting harsh lockdowns and ordering schools without known infections to resume regular classes.
China's ruling Communist Party shares many of the authoritarian tendencies of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, shielding Beijing from criticism over its harsh policies toward Uyghurs and other Muslim minorities.
More than a million have been sent to detention centres where they report being forced to denounce Islam and swear fealty to Xi and the party.
Beijing denies the charges, saying they have been providing job training and ridding Muslims of extremist, separatist and terroristic tendencies.
With no major differences between them on human rights, the tone of Xi's visit is &ldquo;likely to be much more positive&rdquo; than the visit earlier this year to the kingdom by US President Joe Biden, the political risk consultancy Eurasia Group said in a report.
&ldquo;Nevertheless, the relationship still has a long way to go if it is to become as deep and nuanced as Saudi-US ties,&rdquo; the report said.
Despite Biden's earlier pledges to hold Saudi Arabian leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman responsible for the killing of a US-based journalist, his administration last month said the prince's high office should shield him from a lawsuit over his role.
A US federal judge on Tuesday dismissed the lawsuit.
The US military has long safeguarded Saudi Arabia from external enemies, in exchange for Saudi Arabia keeping global oil markets afloat.
The trip to Saudi Arabia marks a further move by Xi to restore his global profile after spending most of the pandemic inside China. The visit is just Xi's third overseas trip since early 2020.
It also comes amid questions about the Chinese public's support for Xi, who has cracked down relentlessly on free speech and purged political rivals.
Xi was granted a third five-year term as leader in October, but street protests against &ldquo;zero-COVID&rdquo; policies last month saw the most significant public challenge to his rule and may have prompted a relaxation of some measures.
Chinese companies have become major players in Saudi Arabia's move to upgrade its infrastructure, among them construction firms and the telecoms giant Huawei.
More deals are expected to be signed during Xi's visit, including in the defense sector, where Saudi Arabia has shown signs of moving away from its traditional dependence on the US.
&ldquo;The Saudi visit will allow Xi to be the centre of attention and regional leaders will be receptive to the Chinese perspective," Eurasia Group said in its report.
&ldquo;That these exchanges are coming amid a backdrop of challenging ties between Mideast capitals and Washington will not be lost on Beijing."&nbsp;

The message from Xi came days after North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile in one of its most powerful tests yet, declaring it would meet perceived US nuclear threats with nukes of its own.
North Korea has conducted a record-breaking blitz of missile launches in recent weeks and fears have grown that it is building up to a seventh nuclear test, its first since 2017.
In his message to Kim, Xi said Beijing was ready to work with the North for "peace, stability, development and prosperity of the region and the world," Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
Xi said he was willing to collaborate with Pyongyang as "changes in the world, times, and history are taking place in unprecedented ways," KCNA said, quoting from the message it said was received in response to congratulations from Kim after the Chinese Communist Party Congress last month handed Xi a third term.

The UN Security Council convened an open meeting over the launch, with the United States, Britain, France and India among 14 nations to "strongly condemn" Pyongyang's actions.
But a Western diplomat told AFP that China and Russia had chosen not to put their names to Monday's statement.
Earlier this month, the United States accused Beijing and Moscow of protecting Pyongyang from further punishment.
In May, China and Russia vetoed a US-led effort to tighten sanctions on North Korea in response to earlier launches.
Pyongyang is already under multiple sets of international sanctions over its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, and China accounts for more than 90 percent of the impoverished country's bilateral trade.

The official said Harris echoed President Joe Biden's comment to Xi at an meeting between the two leaders earlier in the week that China and the U.S. must keep lines of communication open to &ldquo;responsibly manage the competition between our countries.&rdquo; The official spoke on condition of anonymity in order to be able to speak to the media.
Relations between Washington and Beijing have suffered frictions over trade and technology, China's claims to the separately governed island of Taiwan, the pandemic and China's handling of Hong Kong, human rights and other issues.

"On behalf of the United States I reaffirmed our ironclad commitment to our Indo-Pacific alliances.&rdquo; Her remarks at the broader APEC forum capped a week of high-level outreach from the U.S. to Asia as Washington seeks to counter growing Chinese influence in the region, with President Joe Biden pushing the message of American commitment to the region at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Cambodia and the Group of 20 summit in Indonesia.
Many Asian countries began questioning the American commitment to Asia after former President Donald Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, which had been the centerpiece of former President Barack Obama's &ldquo;pivot&rdquo; to Asia.
The Biden administration has been seeking to regain trust and take advantage of growing questions over strings attached to Chinese regional infrastructure investments that critics have dubbed Beijing's &ldquo;debt trap&rdquo; diplomacy.
Biden and Harris have also highlighted Washington's Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, launched earlier this year.

In the video posted by Annie Bergeron-Oliver of Canada's CTV National News, a displeased Xi can be seen telling Trudeau that giving complete details about the talks between the two leaders during a bilateral on November 15 was inappropriate.&nbsp;
'Everything we discussed has been leaked to the papers, that is not appropriate. And that was not the way the conversation was conducted,' Xi told Trudeau through a translator.&nbsp;
'In Canada, we believe in free, and open, and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have. We will continue to look to work constructively together, but there will be things we will disagree on,' the Canadian Prime Minister replied as he stood his ground.
''That's great, but let's create the conditions first,' Xi replied as he made a parting shot.&nbsp;
The two leaders then shook hands and went their separate ways.&nbsp;

There had been some speculation over a possible bilateral meeting between the two leaders on the margins of the Group of 20 Summit, which began Tuesday. But the agenda made known by both sides so far does not mention such a meeting.
Prime Minister Modi and President Xi, who were both attending the G20 dinner hosted by Indonesian President Widodo, exchanged courtesies at the conclusion of the dinner, official sources said when asked about the interaction between the two leaders.
Since the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed &ndash; there has been no one-on-one meetings between the two leaders.
India has been consistently maintaining that peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) are important for the overall development of bilateral ties.
In September, Prime Minister Modi and President Xi came face-to-face at the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Uzbek city of Samarkand for the first time since the start of the border standoff in eastern Ladakh.
No separate meeting is believed to have taken place between them there, though it is presumed they would have exchanged pleasantries.

Xi added that he hoped the pair would &ldquo;elevate the relationship&rdquo; and that he was prepared to have a &ldquo;candid and in-depth exchange of views&rdquo; with Biden.
Both men entered the highly anticipated meeting with bolstered political standing at home.
Democrats triumphantly held onto control of the US Senate, with a chance to boost their ranks by one in a runoff election in Georgia next month, while Xi was awarded a third five-year term in October by the Communist Party's national congress, a break with tradition.
But relations between the US and China have grown more strained under successive American administrations, as economic, trade, human rights and security differences have come to the fore.

Taiwan has emerged as one of the most contentious issues between Washington and Beijing. Multiple times in his presidency, Biden has said the U.S. would defend the island &mdash; which China has eyed for eventual unification &mdash; in case of a Beijing-led invasion. But administration officials have stressed each time that the U.S.'s &ldquo;One China&rdquo; policy has not changed. That policy recognizes the government in Beijing while allowing for informal relations and defense ties with Taipei, and its posture of &ldquo;strategic ambiguity&rdquo; over whether it would respond militarily if the were island attacked.
Tensions flared even higher when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., visited Taiwan in August, prompting China to retaliate with military drills and the firing of ballistic missiles into nearby waters.

Xi Jinping secured a historic third term as China's leader on Sunday and promoted some of his closest Communist Party allies, cementing his position as the nation's most powerful leader since Mao Zedong.
The Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party elected Xi as its general secretary for another five-year term, Xinhua reported, tilting the country decisively back towards one-man rule after decades of power-sharing among its elite.
"I wish to thank the whole party sincerely for the trust you have placed in us," Xi told journalists at Beijing's Great Hall of the People after the closed-door vote was announced.
He promised to "work diligently in the performance of our duties to prove worthy of the great trust of our party and our people."
Xi was also reappointed head of China's Central Military Commission.
The 69-year-old is now all but certain to sail through to a third term as China's president, due to be formally announced during the government's annual legislative sessions in March.
His anointment came after a week-long Congress of 2,300 hand-picked party delegates during which they endorsed Xi's "core position" in the leadership and approved a sweeping reshuffle that saw former rivals step down.
The 20th Congress elected the new Central Committee of around 200 senior party officials, who then gathered on Sunday to elect Xi and the other members of Standing Committee -- the apex of Chinese political power.
Some of Xi's closest allies were announced in the seven-man committee.

Former Shanghai party chief Li Qiang, a confidante of Xi's, was promoted to number two, making him likely to be named premier at the government's annual legislative sessions next March.
Since becoming the country's leader a decade ago, Xi has achieved a concentration of power like no modern Chinese ruler other than Mao.
He abolished the presidential two-term limit in 2018, paving the way for him to govern indefinitely.

Hu's departure was left unexplained, and the nation's censors appeared to quickly scrub any recent references to him from the internet.
The frail-looking 79-year-old seemed reluctant to leave the front row of proceedings at Beijing's Great Hall of the People, where he was sitting next to President Xi Jinping.
A steward attempted to take a sitting Hu by the arm before being shaken off. The steward then attempted to lift Hu up with both hands from under the armpits.
After an exchange of about a minute, in which Hu spoke briefly with Xi and Premier Li Keqiang, he was led out of the hall.
A seated Xi was filmed holding papers down on the desk as Hu tried to grab them.
Hu patted Li's shoulder as he left, as most of his colleagues stared firmly ahead.
The week-long Congress occurred mostly behind closed doors, but Hu's departure occurred shortly after journalists were allowed in to cover the closing ceremony.

China's five-yearly Communist Party Congress wrapped up on Saturday with President Xi Jinping set to emerge from the event as leader for an unprecedented third term.
Xi delivered a speech starting about midday (0400 GMT) in one of the final events of the week-long gathering at Beijing's Great Hall of the People.
"Dare to struggle, dare to win, bury your heads and work hard. Be determined to keep forging ahead," he told the party faithful.
His speech ended a week of largely rubber-stamp meetings among 2,300 party delegates, who were selected by the party to approve a reshuffle of its leadership.
However in an unexpected move at such a heavily choreographed event, former leader Hu Jintao was led out of the closing ceremony. No official explanation was given.

Delegates also voted to endorse Xi's "work report" delivered at the Congress's opening last Sunday and rubber-stamped a resolution on the Party's constitution.

At Sunday's Congress opening ceremony, Xi delivered a 105-minute speech lauding the party's achievements and glossing over domestic problems such as the stalling economy and the damage wrought by his harsh zero-Covid policy.
Heavy on ideological rhetoric and light on policy, a defiant Xi also urged Communist Party members to steel themselves against numerous challenges including a hardening geopolitical climate.
"We must... be ready to withstand high winds, choppy waters and even dangerous storms," he said.
"Confronted with drastic changes in the international landscape, especially external attempts to blackmail, contain, (and) blockade... China, we have put our national interests first."
Security was also a main focus of the speech, in which Xi lauded Hong Kong's transition from "chaos to governance" and vowed to "never commit to abandoning the use of force" to seize the self-ruled island of Taiwan.

Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the 20th Congress of the party, which began on Sunday, Xiao Pei, a deputy head of the party&rsquo;s anti-graft body said that some 207,000 party officials were punished in the last 10 years.
Since Xi came to power in November 2012, more than 4.6 million officials around the country have been probed for corruption, Xiao said.
Xiao added these cases included 553 officials at the ministerial level and above.
The Congress with over 2,300 delegates is widely expected to endorse Xi for a third term, which will make him the only leader after the party founder Mao Zedong to continue in power for more than two-five year terms.
Critics say Xi effectively used his anti-graft campaign to consolidate power.
Ahead of the Congress, three top security officials were sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for corruption.
Ling Li, a specialist in Chinese politics at the University of Vienna, said the party was expected to continue to use the anti-corruption drive as a tool to regulate its elites in the long term.
&ldquo;Anti-corruption has become and will remain the most potent tool to regulate elite politics in China in the next five years and beyond,&rdquo; she told the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post.

&ldquo;It&rsquo;s characterised as a self-revolution because it is an institutionalised approach to purge its own members from positions of power, an exceptional initiative voluntarily taken by the party itself,&rdquo; she said.
The anti-graft campaign figured high in Xi&rsquo;s speech at the Congress on Sunday in which he warned that "as long as the breeding grounds and conditions for corruption still exist, we must keep sounding the bugle and never rest, not even for a minute, in our fight against corruption." Xi also spoke of serious hidden dangers inside the party, the country and the military have been removed.
"We have waged a battle against corruption on a scale unprecedented in our history. Driven by a strong sense of mission, we have resolved to 'offend a few thousand rather than fail 1.4 billion' and to clear our party of all its ills," Xi added.
He pointed out that corruption is cancer to the vitality and ability of the party, and fighting corruption should be self-reformed.
There is zero tolerance in the Communist Party for senior cadres who collude with business, President Xi warned, pledging the toughest penalties for any offenders.
&ldquo;[We will] seriously deal with corruption intertwining political and economic problems,&rdquo; Xi told party delegates attending the Congress on Sunday.
&ldquo;[We must] resolutely put a stop to collusion between cadres in leading positions who become the spokespersons or agents of interest groups and powerful cliques," he added.

President Xi Jinping on Sunday vowed China would "never commit to abandoning the use of force" when it comes to the issue of Taiwan, in a speech marking the beginning of the Communist Party Congress in Beijing.
"Resolving the Taiwan issue is a matter for Chinese people themselves, and must be resolved by Chinese people alone. We will adhere to striving for the prospect of a peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and greatest efforts, but will never commit to abandoning the use of force, and reserve the option to take all necessary measures," Xi told Communist Party delegates at Beijing's Great Hall of the People.
China sees self-ruled, democratic Taiwan as part of its territory, to be reclaimed one day by military intervention if necessary.
"The historical wheels of national reunification and national rejuvenation are rolling forward," Xi added. "Reunification of the motherland must be achieved and will be achieved."

Xi condemned "separatism and interference" on the matter.
He also hailed Hong Kong's transition from "chaos to governance", after the imposition of a national security law in 2020 that has quashed dissent in the once outspoken city.
