In Bankura, Rahul Lohar, a 23-year-old, was deeply upset by India's loss to Australia. He decided to end his life near a cinema hall late on Sunday night. His brother-in-law mentioned that Rahul was heartbroken by the match's outcome and hung himself in his room. His body was taken to the hospital for examination, and the police are looking into the incident.
In Jajpur, Odisha, another 23-year-old, Dev Ranjan Das, was found hanging from his house's terrace after the match. Dev had been receiving treatment for emotional distress, and after India's loss, he left home feeling extremely upset. The authorities are investigating his case too and are waiting for the autopsy report.

The heightened interest, especially in India's matches, played a pivotal role in this surge. Record-breaking Viewership and Engagement:
India's games drew an average of 29 million concurrent viewers, outperforming any other tournament digitally and exceeding non-India match viewership fivefold, as per Elara Capital's analysis. The Indian team's strong performance contributed to a record-breaking CPM of Rs 400-450 on Disney+Hotstar, surpassing even IPL rates due to a larger audience and free OTT content.

In terms of ad volumes, TAM Sports reported a 19 percent growth in the first 39 matches of the 2023 World Cup compared to 2019. The count of categories and brands also increased by 32 percent and 30 percent, respectively, with over 50 new categories and 195 new brands advertising during the matches. Perfumes/deodorants, Pan Masala, and online shopping were among the top categories. Impact on India's Advertising Landscape
This surge in ad spending, fueled by the World Cup, reflects a broader trend of recovery and consumer engagement, significantly impacting India's advertising landscape, as highlighted by Jain. Taurani anticipates a positive 2.5 percent impact on India's ad expenditure in 2023, with a 14 percent estimated growth in the latter half of the year, driven by the festive season and cricket's influence.

World Cup 2023: Sportspersons endorsing a product is a common sight. Lakhs and crores are poured into booking a sportsperson and executing the advertisement. Getting a cricketer to endorse products means cutting a big cheaque as Cricket cuts across audiences.
However, experts are divided over how the loss in the world cup final will impact the brand value of Indian cricketers.
<h3>Rise in endorsement payment&nbsp;</h3>
The Economic Times has quoted sports marketing companies and has said that despite the loss in World Cup ODI Finals, leading Indian cricketers are likely to see a double-digit rise in their endorsement fees. This as the dominance of Indian Cricketers throughout the tournament has made them even more popular and hence can leverage their popularity to help brands in building connections with consumers.

ET also quoted Head of sponsorship sales and talent at Rise Worldwide, which manages top cricketers like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah, among others who said that the fees may see a 30-40% increase.
Sports marketing agency GroupM ESP data estimates say that the value of all sports endorsement deals in the country rose by 20% year-on-year to reach Rs 749 crore in 2022. Of this, cricket alone accounted for Rs 640 crore or 85% in value.
The rise in endorsement will also see individual players benefitting rather than the whole team.&nbsp;
<h3>Factors affecting Endorsement fees</h3>
Meanwhile, Business Today quoted experts and said that if India had won the tournament, the payment to the cricketers for endorsement would have zoomed by at least 20%. Alchemist Marketing Solutions MD, Manish Porwal told Business Today that this issue is about loss of profit and that there will not be drop in the current value.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The issue is really about a loss of profit. There will not be any drop in current value, but we are not going to see a spike in endorsement fee either,&rdquo; Porwal told Business Today.&nbsp;
Harish Bijoor, brand domain specialist and owner Harish Bijoor Consults Inc told Business Today, a brand manager will need to closely allocate his budget. &ldquo;In India, nothing comes close to cricket and films when it comes to big monies spent on endorsements. It is really a case of budgets moving from one to the other,&rdquo; he told the publication.
By this, a below than expected performance by the cricketers would see a tilt towards the film stars. &ldquo;Marketers will now start to allocate a larger chunk of their budgets to a SRK or any large star in the south. Again, if a star&rsquo;s film does not work, it will be back to cricket&rdquo;, Bijoor said.
He also mentioned that there will be a bit of realignment on how the cricketers are paid. For instance now, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli charge Rs 4 crore to over Rs 7 crore for each endorsement. Now newer stars like Siraj, Shreyas and Kuldeep may also be wooed by brands.
Meanwhile, Salil Vaidya, marketing consultant and founder, Korero Communications told Business Today that the overall marketing spend on cricket will continue to increase.
&ldquo;While a world cup win would have seen a sharp increase in the fee, the consistent performance of the team has won over cricket-loving India and, in fact, the loss in the final will give brands an opportunity to exploit the human side of the players to weave stories that will play on consumer sentiments", Vaidya told Business Today&nbsp;

World Cup 2023:&nbsp;The 2023 edition of ICC Men's Cricket World Cup has seen the most number of viewership and spectator attendance. As per ICC chief commercial officer Anurag Dahiya, digital viewership, both on streaming platforms and social media, is growing even as TV viewership continues to hold strong.
"I don't get a sense that the numbers are down for TV. The debate over whether digital is taking viewership away from TV is futile. A large chunk of what is going digital is ending up on TV as well. Viewing is also happening on connected TVs," said Dahiya
<h3>India vs New Zealand Semi-Finals</h3>
The India vs New Zealand semi-finals had the highest peak concurrency of 53 million. Peak Concurrency is the maximum logged in at the same time. All over the tournament the first 42 matches saw millions of fans flocking to stadiums in 10 different cities.&nbsp;
<h3>Digital vs TV streaming</h3>
The ICC chief commercial officer also said that bifurcating TV and digital in India is extremely hard and so there is a need to look at the overall numbers. As per Disney Star that has the streaming right in India, compared to 2019 World Cup, this year the consumption for the first 34 matches is up 10% to 244 billion minutes and the average time spent on TV is up 12% to 568 minutes per viewer.

The live broadcast of the first 34 matches also reached 450 million audiences while new peak concurrency was recorded digitally, as per Dahiya. He further added that the ICC's vertical video streaming innovation, MaxView, has been a success and has helped the Disney+ Hotstar platform grow its viewership base. Similarly, Facebook - ICC's exclusive digital content rights partner has seen 12 billion video views, which is four times the 2019 numbers.
Though the sponorship revenue and World Cup's impact on economy is not yet clear, ICC has hired Nielsen to measure how much the event has impacted the economy. The report is expected to be released two-three months after the World Cup. The 2019 edition of the World Cup contributed an estimated Rs 3,600 crore to the UK's economy.

The 46-day international cricket event, returning to India after a 12-year hiatus, is scheduled to take place from October 5 to November 19, 2023. Jefferies' report indicates that this coincides with the seasonally strong third quarter for the hospitality industry. The report scrutinized hotel and flight rates across venues hosting matches and revealed an eye-popping average fare hike of 150% for select hotels and 80% for flights compared to the week leading up to match day. Some rates have surged to an astonishing 13 times their standard prices.
Airlines Take Flight on Soaring Fares
Notably, airlines are not immune to this pricing frenzy. Travellers booking flights to attend the World Cup matches can anticipate a substantial 80% increase in fares. This surge in demand is expected to benefit the aviation sector as well.

The Italian soccer federation issued a short announcement saying that Mancini communicated his resignation "late last night," adding that a new coach would be named "over the next days." The federation doesn't have much time with Euro 2024 qualifying matches against North Macedonia and Ukraine scheduled for September 9 and 12, respectively.
Former Italy coach Antonio Conte, who left Tottenham in March, and Luciano Spalletti, who led Napoli to the Serie A title last season and said he wants to take a sabbatical this season, are among those being mentioned as a possible replacement.
Only nine days ago, the federation had announced that Mancini was being given the added responsibility of overseeing the under-20 and under-21 teams, too. He was under contract through the 2026 World Cup.
"It's a bit surprising. Nobody expected it," Renzo Ulivieri, the president of Italy's coaches association, told the LaPresse news agency.
"Nothing can be said until the reasons behind the resignation are known. It's useless to say anything without knowing that. I'm sorry that he's left. He did a good job despite those last things," Ulivieri added, referring to the failed World Cup qualification.
Mancini was hired in May 2018 to revive the Azzurri after they also failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup under predecessor Gian Piero Ventura. And he did by adding flair and youth to a team that won admirers all over the continent during the year-delayed Euro 2020.
Mancini was hailed for his vision when he called up then-Roma forward Nicol&ograve; Zaniolo before he had ever played in Serie A, but he also struggled to find top players from the Italian league, which has been hesitant to use young players at times.
A 1-0 semifinal playoff loss to 67th-ranked North Macedonia at home last year meant that the Azzurri missed the World Cup in Qatar.
It's also been an emotional time for Mancini, who lost his good friend, former teammate and national team delegation chief Gianluca Vialli to pancreatic cancer in January. Vialli was 58.
Sini&scaron;a Mihajlovic, another of Mancini's former teammates and then a fellow coach, died three weeks before Vialli following a long battle with leukemia. He was 53.
It's unclear what's next for the 58-year-old Mancini, who was a leading club coach before taking over the national team, having won league titles at both Inter Milan and Manchester City.
Mancini was also a standout player for Sampdoria, Lazio and Italy.
Mancini's exit puts the federation in complete rebuilding mode, with women's coach Milena Bertolini having also announced her resignation after the Azzurre failed to advance from the Women's World Cup group stage.
Mancini's last match in charge was a 3-2 win over the host Netherlands in the Nations League final four third-place match on June 18.
Having lost its opening Euro 2024 qualifier to England, Italy is also facing an uphill battle to qualify for next year's tournament in Germany.

'I requested the hosting associations who were allocated warm-up matches, to voluntarily forego their turn to host an ODI during bilateral international season'

The venues that missed out on getting games for the ODI World Cup will get an out-of-turn opportunity to host 50-over games in the upcoming home season.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah floated the idea of World Cup venues letting go of their turn to host ODI games in the home season to compensate the state units which have missed out on hosting the coveted ICC event.
In a letter to the state units, Shah informed them that his proposal has been unanimously accepted by officials of eight World Cup venues, including Delhi, Dharamsala, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Lucknow.
However, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, which will host only warm-up games of the World Cup, will get to host matches in the upcoming season.
Shah had met with state units ahead of the World Cup schedule announcement earlier this week.
"During our meeting, I had proposed a solution to ensure a fair distribution of matches for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. I requested the hosting associations, with the exception of Assam and Kerala, who were allocated warm-up matches, to voluntary forego their turn to host an ODI during the bilateral international season.
"This proposal was put forth in order to accommodate the state associations that unfortunately missed out on hosting matches of the Cricket World Cup.
"I am pleased to inform you that the proposal received unanimous agreement and support from all the participating associations," Shah said in the letter accessed by PTI.
The World Cup will be held in India from October 5 to November 19.
Barring Hyderabad, all main venues will get to host five games each of the ICC 50-over showpiece.
Hyderabad will hosts two warm-up games involving Pakistan before staging three main matches from October 6.
Pakistan will play two of their league games at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal.&nbsp;
