If reports in ESPNcricinfo are to be believed, the 2023 ODI World Cup in India is likely to start on October 5, with Ahmedabad set to host the final on November 19.
The report added that the BCCI has shortlisted 12 venues for the marquee event. Apart from Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai are the other chosen venues.

Usually the ICC announces World Cup schedules at least a year in advance but is waiting for the BCCI to get necessary clearances from the Indian government.

The players must all carry out community service on a soccer project and pay fines of up to 20,000 Swiss francs ($21,600), FIFA said.
Disorder flared when Uruguay failed to advance to the round of 16 in Qatar despite beating Ghana 2-0 in its final group-stage game on Dec. 2.
The Uruguayan soccer federation was also fined 50,000 Swiss francs ($54,000) and must close some of its stadiums for one home game.
FIFA disciplinary judges ruled the federation "was responsible for the discriminatory behaviour of its supporters as well as for the misconduct, offensive behaviour and violation of the principles of fair play" by players.

Not content with the U-19 T20 World Cup triumph, batting sensation Shafali Verma has already set her sights on replicating the success with the senior women's team in less than two weeks' time.

The Shafali-led India squad managed to do what their seniors could not by clearing the final hurdle in a global event.

French Football Federation has strongly condemned the online ‘racist and hateful comments’ that the French players received following their World Cup 2022 loss to Argentina.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the French football body informed that it has decided to file a complaint against those who posted abuse online. 'The French soccer federation condemns with the utmost firmness these intolerable behaviours and abuses,' the statement read.
The online abuse was mainly towards Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni, players of colour who missed their penalties during the penalty shootout against Argentina in the final.&nbsp;
Coman who plays for Bayern Munich also got support from the German club. &lsquo;FC Bayern family is behind you, King. Racism has no place in sport or our society', the club tweeted.&nbsp;
French sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera also tweeted her support to all the players facing the racist remarks. She said, &lsquo;the heinous comments have no place in football or anywhere else&rsquo;

The Qatar World Cup has been embroiled in controversy since it was announced. Is it an example of 'sportswashing'?&nbsp;

Held once every four years, the FIFA World Cup is supposed to be a celebration of the beautiful game. The world&rsquo;s best players, representing their nations, and competing for the top prize - there&rsquo;s a certain air of romance to the whole thing.
Countries from all over the world descend on one location to essentially play a lot of football - it&rsquo;s a real melting pot of cultures and camaraderie and sporting spirit. World Cups are supposed to be above concerns like geopolitics, and political rivalries, and even wars. But that&rsquo;s a bit of a lofty ideal.
In reality, football&rsquo;s biggest competition is as susceptible to corruption and political pressure as any large event. Never has this been more evident than the last decade.
The process for the bidding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups began around March 2009. On December 2, 2010, it was announced that Russia and Qatar respectively would host the tournaments. The decisions were immediately controversial.
The Qatar World Cup, in particular, has been embroiled in controversy since it was announced. Qatar is a small country on the northeastern coast of the middle east - it&rsquo;s pretty small in size, around one fifth of the state of Uttarakhand, is home to less than 3 million people. It&rsquo;s also a hereditary monarchy, with Islam as an official state religion.

Right away, critics saw a disconnect between the tournament and the assigned host. Qatar has no real history or legacy of footballing culture, it had never qualified for a World Cup before it hosted one, and it follows religious law guidelines, which often stand at odds with the fan culture of most major footballing nations.
This was quite evident over the issue of alcohol, for example. Drinking is a big part of European fan culture, alcohol is abundantly sold in stadiums, and flows quite freely. In Qatar, alcohol is legal in some specific areas for non-residents, but is not allowed for the Muslim population.
During the bidding process, Qatari officials had indicated that alcohol would be sold in special &lsquo;fan zones&rsquo; in and around stadiums. On November 18, two days before the games were to begin, Qatar announced that alcohol would not be permitted in stadiums.
There are also larger human rights concerns. For one, the Qatar World Cup required the building of many entirely new stadiums, which were built by migrant labour brought in from South Asia. A 2013 investigation by The Guardian found that many workers were denied food and water, had their identity papers taken away from them, were compelled to forced labor, and were either not paid on time or at all, making some of them effectively slaves. Another report by the newspaper said that between the years of 2010 and 2020, 6,500 migrant workers - all from South Asia - had died in Qatar.

Then, of course, was the issue of LGBTQ+ rights. Homosexuality is illegal in Qatar, and is punishable by fines and up to seven years imprisonment. Despite this, the country had announced that rainbow flags will be allowed in stadiums. However, many reports have said that fans wearing the rainbow have been barred from entering World Cup stadiums, and confronted by security and members of the public to remove the emblem.
So, if there are so many issues with human rights and the cultural fit of this tournament, why was it awarded to Qatar in the first place?
Allegations of corruption and vote buying have been levelled at the Qatar World Cup since it was first announced. A FIFA internal investigation has cleared Qatar of any wrongdoing, but has since been decried by its own author, who said that the final report was incomplete and erroneous. In May 2015, Swiss federal prosecutors opened an investigation into the bid, and former FIFA President Sepp Blatter - who was himself forced to resign amid corruption allegations - has suggested that Qatar cheated to win the hosting rights.
It has never been definitely proven that Qatar cheated in the bid process. But over time, 11 of the 22 FIFA Executive Committee members that voted for Qatar to host the World Cup have been fined, suspended, banned for life, or even prosecuted for corruption.
But why did Qatar, a nation with no particular history of football, want to host the World Cup to begin with?
The term &lsquo;sportswashing&rsquo; has come to describe the practice of countries or organisations trying to improve their reputations that have been tarnished through some wrongdoing. Critics have applied it to the Qatar World Cup. The claim, then, goes that Qatar is using the goodwill generated by the usually joyous atmosphere of the FIFA World Cup to cover up its human rights abuses and shady arms deals.
If that was indeed Qatar&rsquo;s aim, it is unclear how much it has worked. Conversation around these issues is at its peak as the World Cup has begun. The BBC chose to ignore the opening ceremony, with global stars like Morgan Freeman and Jungkook from BTS, and covered the controversies around the tournament instead.
But, as the tournament goes on, upsets and 7-goal routs dominate headlines, and sporting talking points overwhelm political ones, the football must be played. The show must go on. The conversations that arise after the World Cup has ended, will decide how successful the sportswashing has been.

Stadium security staff organised by Qatari authorities had seized items with rainbow colors and slogans such as &ldquo;Women. Life. Freedom&rdquo; to stop them from getting inside stadiums.
In the first week of the tournament, seven European teams including Wales lost the fight to wear multi-colored &ldquo;One Love&rdquo; armbands during World Cup matches and some fans complained they weren't allowed to bring items with rainbow colors, a symbol of LGBTQ rights, into the stadiums of the conservative Islamic emirate.
The match between Iran and the United States on Tuesday was charged with emotion among Iranian fans, some of whom had come to Qatar not only to support their team, but the protest movement back home with banners and flags.
&ldquo;FIFA is aware of some incidents where permitted items were not allowed to be displayed at stadiums,&rdquo; soccer's world body said in a statement on Wednesday, more than a week after some incidents were reported at World Cup stadiums. &ldquo;FIFA has received assurances by authorities that venue commanders have been contacted in relation to the agreed rules and regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.&rdquo; FIFA's assurances that have seemed to be overridden by Qatari authorities.
Wales and Iran will not play any more games at the World Cup after results late Tuesday sent England and the United States from their Group B into the knockout rounds.
&ldquo;FIFA continues to work closely with the Host Country to ensure the full implementation of related regulations and agreed protocols,&rdquo; FIFA said.&nbsp;

The celebrations are contrary to what is usually expected of fans after their team loses a match. But here in Iran, people condemn the team for its participation in the international football tournament, and have deemed the players as part of the theocratic regime.
The viral videos show anti-regime protesters dancing in circles, cheering following their team's loss.
In some regions celebrations took the form of collective honking in what is being dubbed as "Iran Revolution" against their regime.
The protesters have time and again questioned footballers' intent to play citing the tumultous times they are experiencing in the wake of protests against hijab law.
While Iran's national football team in its show of soldarity for protesters at home refrained from singing the national anthem before their opening match against England on November 22.
Some Iranians supported the move, while some called the football team as regime representatives.
The last time Iran won a world cup match against US was in 1998. With this loss, Iran has exited the FIFA world cup.

First, the Middle East nation was accused of buying hosting rights, then followed the alleged abuse of human rights and now, when the country has been rebuilt from the ground up for the showpiece event, the questions still linger.
Qatar in the line of fire
Netflix&rsquo;s documentary series &lsquo;FIFA Uncovered&rsquo; has once again put the limelight on the corruption at football&rsquo;s governing body, with many wondering if the 2010 bid from the Arab nation-state was only successful because they allegedly bribed the FIFA officials.

FIFA&rsquo;s multiple investigations cleared the Gulf state of any wrongdoing but the World Cup in Qatar will take place still surrounded by those allegations.
Death of migrant workers
The human cost of the World Cup has been highlighted by the media, the players &amp; coaches, and the various human rights organisations time and time again.
Some estimate between 6500 to 15000 migrant workers died while working in the excruciating heat of Qatar during 2010-2021, building the infrastructure required to host an event of such magnitude.
Many feel the Kafala system that&rsquo;s in place in the Arab states is to be blamed. Under Kafala, the employers have control over a worker&rsquo;s visa and exit permit. Human rights experts have described the system as a form of modern-day slavery.
Back in 2010, the country just had one football stadium. They spent upwards of $150 billion in building seven more venues since then. But the cost of lives destroyed remains incalculable.
Other Human rights issues
Gender equality advocates, the LGBTQ+ community, and supporters all frowned upon FIFA&rsquo;s decision to give Qatar the hosting rights in 2010. And nothing has changed in the past decade or so.
Women don&rsquo;t have equal rights. Same-sex relations are a taboo in the country which criminalises any such practices. There are even restrictions for fans travelling to Qatar regarding what they can and cannot wear in public, especially for women football fans.
While the Qatari authorities can prosecute anyone breaking the country&rsquo;s laws, certain football teams are planning to protest in their own way. At least a few European team captains are expected to wear the One Love Rainbow armbands in a show of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

Luiz Felipe Scolari, the coach who guided Brazil to their last World Cup glory in 2002 and the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013, has announced his retirement from football as a coach.
The 74-year-old was managing Brazilian football club Athletico Paranaense before announcing his retirement from football as a coach. His team beat Botafogo 3-0 in the final round of the Brazilian championship, helping them secure a place in next year&rsquo;s Copa Libertadores.&nbsp;
Scolari also managed the Portugal national side and helped them reach the finals of the European Championships in 2004. He even managed Chelsea in 2008 and also the 2014 World Cup Brazil squad which suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat against eventual champions Germany.&nbsp;
The Brazilian said he expects to return to Athletico Paranaense in an executive position next year but will no longer be in charge of the team.
