Amid heightened enforcement of immigration policies under the Trump administration, the US government has issued a warning to Indian nationals studying at American institutions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their student status to ensure eligibility for future visas. The advisory highlighted that students who neglect their academic commitments&mdash;by skipping classes, withdrawing, or leaving their study programs without notifying their institutions&mdash;risk having their student visas revoked.
In an announcement on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the US Embassy in India urged students to comply with the terms of their visas and maintain their student status diligently. The post stated, "If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future US visas. Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues."
In a previous post, the Embassy also warned that overstaying one's authorized period in the United States could result in deportation and potentially lead to a permanent travel ban to the country.
This warning arrives shortly after a significant legal development in which a federal judge in California, US District Judge Jeffrey S. White, issued a temporary injunction preventing the Trump administration from stripping international students of their legal status while ongoing legal challenges are adjudicated. The order, issued in Oakland, prohibits the government from detaining or relocating students based on their legal status until the resolution of the case, as reported by the Associated Press.
It is important to note that students remain subject to arrest for reasons unrelated to their immigration status, particularly if convicted of a serious and violent crime that carries a prison sentence exceeding one year.

The Pakistan high commission on Wednesday said it issued 84 visas to Indian pilgrims to visit the Shree Katas Raj temples in Punjab province's Chakwal district.
The group has been given visas to visit the Katas Raj temples from December 19 to 25.
The temples are also known as Qila Katas. It is a complex of several Hindu temples connected to one another by walkways.

"The Pakistan high commission in New Delhi has issued 84 visas to a group of Indian pilgrims for their visit to the sacred Shree Katas Raj Temples in Chakwal district of Punjab," the Pakistani mission said.
Pakistan's Charge d'Affaires Saad Ahmad Warraich wished the pilgrims a "spiritually rewarding" and a "fulfilling" journey.
"Under the Pakistan-India protocol on visits to religious shrines of 1974, each year thousands of Sikh and Hindu pilgrims from India visit Pakistan to attend various religious festivals/occasions," the Pakistan high commission said.
"The issuance of pilgrimage visas is in line with the policy of the government of Pakistan to facilitate visits to religious shrines and promoting interfaith harmony," it said in a statement.

H1-B visa and Green Card applicants including American employers will now have to pay more from April 1 after a US district court has rejected a plea for a temporary restraining order to postpone the implementation of immigration fee hikes.
The application fee has risen by 70% to $780, with employers now subject to a new Asylum Program fee of $600 at the initial application stage, and when sponsoring employment-based green cards.
<h3>Visa becomes costlier</h3>
As per TOI, the lawsuit, initiated by ITServe Alliance and AIIA, challenges the substantial fee hikes in EB-5 visa fees and the additional asylum fee for employers hiring H-1B workers, which were introduced without proper rule-making procedures.&nbsp;
The legal battle is still ongoing and AIIA remains optimistic about the lawsuit's prospects, noting that the court did not oppose their main argument and believes they have a strong chance of success.

In the order, Judge Charlotte N Sweeney stated that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate imminent, significant, and irreparable harm if the fee increases were implemented from April 1. AIIA while acknowledging the court's order has said that the fee hike will impose substantial financial burdens, especially on EB-5 investors.
