The US embassy in India has announced on its website that the embassy may not be to accommodate Indian travelers according to their time preferences, even if the purpose of the travel is sensitive.
The appointment waiting time is now more than 833 days in Delhi for visitors visas, citing disruptions in operations after the Covid-19 pandemic, the embassy said that the demand for Visas in all categories has gone up many times. And so, the waiting time for non-immigrant visa appointments may also increase at the Delhi embassy and the consulates in Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata.
In Delhi the waiting period for a Visitors Visa is 833 days, for student/Exchange visitor Visas is 420 days for non-migrant visas the time period is 390 days.Mumbai has the highest waiting time for Visitors' Visa, applicants have to wait for 833 days. for Student/Exchange Visitor Visas the wait time is 430 days while for non-immigrant visas the wait time is 360 days.In Kolkata, for the Visitors visa, waiting period is 764 days, while as,  for student/Exchange Visitors Visas the wait time is 444 days for other non-immigrant Visas the wait time is 360 days.
As the US embassy has resumed in-person visa appointments for B1 and B2 visas. The notification by the embassy said that the department of State authorized consular officer to waive the in-person interviews requirement for certain categories of visa applicants till December which includes  F, H-1, H-3, H-4, non-blanket L, M, O, P, Q, and academic J visas.
