The US embassy in India issued a record-breaking 90,000 visas to Indian students this Summer.

Amid strengthening US-India ties, the US embassy in India issued a record-breaking 90,000 visas to Indian students this Summer. While congratulating the chosen students, the embassy credited the win to &ldquo;teamwork and innovation.&rdquo;
A recent spike has been observed in Indian students wanting to pursue higher education in the US, with reportedly over 2,07,000 Indian students in the US as of 2020.
India beat China to have the most number of international students in the US last year, as per NDTV.&nbsp;
&ldquo;Congratulations and best wishes to all the students who have chosen the United States to make their higher education goals a reality,&rdquo; the US embassy in India wrote in a post.
The H1-B visa, which allows US employers to bring on overseas skilled workers, is also usually in high demand. The US Congress set the annual limit for H1-B visas at 65,000.

As per US Citizenship and Immigration Services, over 72% of the H1-B visa applications from India received in the financial year 2022 were accepted.

US embassy has asked its staff not to visit Islamabad's Marriott Hotel, here’s why

On Friday, the administration in the Capital banned all types of gatherings, especially activities related to the upcoming local government elections, and declared high alert in the city

The United States embassy in Islamabad on Sunday prohibited its staff from visiting the federal capital's Marriott Hotel, citing concerns of a "possible attack".&nbsp;
"Event: U.S. government staff prohibited from visiting Islamabad's Marriott Hotel due to a security alert issued today, the US embassy asked its government staff to exercise vigilance at places of worship, and avoid locations with large crowds. It also asked them to monitor local media for updates to possible attacks," the US embassy in Islamabad said in an alert posted on its website.
This security alert comes two days after a suicide bombing in the capital killed a policeman and wounded six others, the Dawn newspaper reported.&nbsp;

In its security alert, the US embassy said it was "aware of information that unknown individuals are possibly plotting to attack Americans at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad sometime during the holidays".&nbsp;
"Effective immediately, the Embassy in Islamabad is prohibiting all American staff from visiting Islamabad's Marriott Hotel," the alert said.&nbsp;
As Islamabad was placed on red alert citing security concerns while banning all public gatherings, the embassy urged all Mission personnel to refrain from non-essential, unofficial travel to Islamabad throughout the holiday season.&nbsp;

"The US Mission to India is pleased to announce that we are resuming routine in-person tourist visa appointments in September 2022. Previously scheduled placeholders have now been cancelled," it tweeted.
"Applicants whose placeholder appointments were cancelled may now reenter the scheduling system to book regular appointments.  Appointments have been opened through 2023," it added.

The Covid crisis in India has hit the diplomatic community too. After a row over New Zealand and Philippines appealing to the Youth Congress for Oxygen, The Print has reported that the diplomatic community in India is also dealing with challenges in accessing oxygen, ICU beds and medicines.
The report, quoting sources, said that the condition of diplomats in India is worsening by the day and there is little support from the Narendra Modi government.
Several embassies and missions &mdash; the US Embassy, Embassy of Germany, Israel Embassy, Bangladesh High Commission, Afghanistan Embassy, Embassy of Sweden and Nepal Embassy, among others &mdash; currently have active Covid cases, the report said.
The US Embassy is reportedly facing an outbreak, with over 100 active cases, including family members of the staff.
A defence attache of the Tanzanian High Commission in India died of Covid at a Delhi hospital on April 28.
Some embassies that refused to be identified said they are now planning to evacuate some of their staff on planes that are coming here with Covid aid for India. Others highlighted the lack of priority support on vaccines and healthcare.
On Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that it is in touch with all high commissions and embassies to facilitate medical help for them.
