Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) has recorded an operating revenue of Rs 1,359 crore in financial year 2023-24 -- the highest ever for the public sector undertaking in UP, according to an official release.
"This achievement marks a doubling of revenue compared to financial year 2018-19, indicating a robust trajectory towards industrial growth in the state," the government release said.
Kanpur-headquartered UPSIDA has made significant strides in realizing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh into an industrial powerhouse, the statement said.
Moreover, UPSIDA's strategic emphasis on bolstering infrastructure in industrial zones to attract investors resulted in a fourfold increase in infrastructure development expenditure. This allocation soared from Rs 104 crore in FY 2017-18, to Rs 415 crore in FY 2023-24, it said.
UPSIDA's CEO Mayur Maheshwari said the authority is committed to expanding Uttar Pradesh's industrial landscape.
"UPSIDA is also doing significant work in the area of land allocation. As a result, there has been an increase in land allocation, with 693 plots allocated in 2023-24. This initiative has benefited investors on one hand and strengthened the authority's financial position on the other," he said.
In addition, UPSIDA has succeeded in gaining the trust of investors by transparently allocating land through e-auctions and Nivesh Mitra, the IAS officer said.

Senior police officer Deeksha Sharma said the body of the man was recovered on Wednesday afternoon, reports Times of India newspaper.&nbsp;
Last week, the bodies of the man's daughter and one another girl were recovered.&nbsp;
The girls were allegedly forced to drink liquor and were raped by the son, 18, and nephew, 19, of a local contractor. The girls worked at a brick kiln owned by the contractor, and their bodies were found less than 400 metres from that spot.
The accused have been arrested and are in jail. They could face charges of gang rape and abetment of suicide, as well as those under the POCSO Act, the police said.

The Anti-Terrorist Squad of Uttar Pradesh Squad has arrested a person working in the Indian Embassy, Moscow, for his alleged involvement in anti-national activities with Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and providing them important confidential information regarding the strategic activities of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian military establishments, an official statement issued here on Sunday said.
Satendra Siwal, the son of Jaiveer Singh, a resident of Shahmahiuddinpur village in the police station area of Hapur district has been arrested by the ATS, the statement said.
Siwal is working in the Ministry of External Affairs and is presently posted in the Indian Embassy in Moscow, Russia, it said.
The ATS was receiving intelligence from various confidential sources that the handlers of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, through some persons, were luring the employees of the Ministry of External Affairs with money to obtain strategically and strategically important information related to the Indian Army that is likely to pose a huge threat to the internal and external security of India, the statement said.
The ATS in its probe through electronic and physical surveillance found that Siwal was involved in anti-India activities with the network of the ISI handlers and providing important confidential information regarding the strategic activities of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian military establishments is being made available to them for money, it added.
Siwal was called to the ATS field unit Meerut and interrogated as per rules, the statement said.
He could not give satisfactory answers and confessed to his crime during the interrogation, it added.
An FIR has been registered against Siwal, who is working as the IBSA (India-Based Security Assistant) in the Indian Embassy in Moscow, Russia, from 2021, at ATS police station, Lucknow, under Section 121A of the IPC (waging war against the country) and official secrets Act 1923, the statement said.&nbsp;

In an attempt to curtail accidents caused by minors, the UP government has decided to strictly implement the provision of three-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000, on parents or vehicle owners who allow minors to drive their vehicles.
Following the recent instructions issued by Transport Commissioner Chandrabhushan Singh, a campaign was launched to spread awareness about the same in government secondary schools in collaboration with the Transport Department. Also, students will be informed about road safety through various mediums.
State Secondary Education Director Mahendra Dev, in a letter issued to all the district school inspectors of the state on Tuesday, mentioned the order given by the transport commissioner on December 27.
It has been said in the letter that the transport commissioner has directed all divisional transport officers and assistant divisional officers to prevent accidents caused by driving of vehicles by minors.
According to the letter, under Section 199 (A) of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act 2019, a provision has been made that in a motor vehicle-related offense committed by a juvenile, only his guardian or the owner of the vehicle will be considered guilty and punished. Under this, the guardian or the owner of the vehicle can be punished with an imprisonment of three years and a fine of Rs 25,000.
According to sources of the Transport Department, this provision will be implemented more strictly now.

&nbsp;Police here have lodged an FIR after a revenue officer&rsquo;s wife alleged that he was forcibly converted to Islam and made to marry a Muslim woman, officials said on Wednesday.
Arti Gupta went to the police when she learnt about the &ldquo;wedding&rdquo; through social media as her husband Ashish Kumar Gupta -- a naib tehsildar posted in Maudaha tehsil of Hamirpur -- had not come home for almost four months.
According to police, Ashish Kumar Gupta has so far not been traced.
In her complaint lodged at the City Kotwali Police Station, Arti Gupta, a resident of Kanpur city, said her husband was "forcibly" converted to Islam and made to marry a Muslim woman named Rukhsaar, police said.
A a case was registered against five people, including the Naib Tehsildar, and around six unidentified people. Two of them, including a maulvi at a local masque in Maudaha, have been detained, police said.
Arti Gupta told police that her husband was having an affair with Rukhsaar.
Rukhsar's father, one Munna, Maulvi Babu Aadhati of a local mosque in Maudaha and four to five others "forcibly" converted Ashish Gupta on December 24 and got him married to the woman, she alleged in the complaint.
Police said a case has been registered against Ashish Gupta, Rukhsaar, her father, Munna, Aadhati and five to six unidentified people under section 494 (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife) of the Indian Penal Code and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.
After registering the case, the accused maulvi and Munna have been taken into custody and are being interrogated, they said.
According to some locals, Ashish Gupta would also offer namaz in a mosque in Maudaha.
The caretaker of the mosque, Muhammad Mushtaq, said Ashish Gupta identified himself as Mohammad Yusuf. Later, when he revealed that he was the naib tehsildar of Maudaha and a resident of Kanpur, the caretaker informed the authorities.
Maudaha Tehsildar Balram Gupta, however, said the reports of the naib tehsildar offering namaz could not be verified.
The statements of local people in Maudaha were recorded as part of the investigation. The claims of Ashish Gupta offering namaz in a mosque could not be verified, Balram Gupta said.&nbsp;

Police here have registered a case against a company and a few other organisations for allegedly exploiting people's religious sentiments to boost sales by providing forged halal certificates.
The case was registered at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow on Friday on the basis of a complaint lodged by Shailendra Kumar Sharma, a resident of Motijheel Colony in Aishbagh.
The case has been registered under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 298 (uttering words, etc, with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings), 384 (extortion), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC.
The case has been registered against entities such as the Halal India Private Limited Chennai, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Halal Trust Delhi, Halal Council of India Mumbai, Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra and others for allegedly exploiting religious sentiments to boost sales by providing halal certificates to customers of a specific religion, the UP government said in a statement on Saturday. &nbsp; Citing the FIR, the statement said that the said companies allegedly issued forged halal certificates to various companies for financial gains, fostering not only social animosity but also violating public trust.
The complainant has raised concerns over a potential large-scale conspiracy, indicating attempts to decrease the sale of products from companies lacking the halal certificate, which is illegal. There is an apprehension that this unfair advantage is being passed on to anti-social and anti-national elements, it added. The issuance of halal certificates for vegetarian products like oil, soap, toothpaste, and honey, where no such certification is necessary, suggests a deliberate criminal conspiracy targeting a specific community and its products, it said.
The complainant further alleged that, under the guise of religion, "unrestrained propaganda" is being pursued within a particular section of the society to discourage the use of products lacking a halal certificate. This, in turn, harms the business interests of other communities.
The complainant also expressed concern over these individuals amassing disproportionate profits and potentially channelling funds towards supporting terrorist organisations and anti-national endeavours, the statement said.&nbsp;

After a decades-long career as an engineer, 82-year-old Jagdish Prasad Sharma's love for music has taken him back to college.
Sharma has enrolled in Murali Manohar Town Degree College here to fulfil his dream of becoming a musician. He is pursuing PhD in music.
"I was interested in music since childhood but due to life's circumstances, I could not make a career in this field," Sharma told PTI on Wednesday.
He said he was also inclined towards engineering and did a diploma in mechanical engineering from Government Polytechnic College in Lucknow.
After completing his diploma, he started working as a junior engineer in the Uttar Pradesh government's irrigation department.
On his decision to return to college, Sharma said, "Hobbies should always remain alive because they inspire us to live. Even though I am old, my dream of becoming a musician is still young." Arvind Upadhyay, a music professor at Murali Manohar Town Degree College, praised Sharma's enthusiasm.
Upadhyay said Sharma is learning music diligently and his student inspires him.&nbsp;

With the arrest of six men, the Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a "sextortion" racket being run through a gay dating app in Kanpur, officials said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Lakhan Singh Yadav said the accused created fake profiles on the gay dating app 'Blued'.
They engaged in friendly chats with the victims and after some time, take them out on a date. They would indulge in sexual activities and shoot naked videos of them, he said.
They would then rob them of their valuables and transfer money from their bank accounts through UPI using their phone by threatening to circulate the videos on social media, the officer said.
Talking to PTI over the phone, Yadav said one of the victims approached the police, claiming that some people had recorded a nude video of him and were using it for blackmailing.
A case was registered at the Kalyanpur police station and a police investigation was launched that helped in busting the 'sextortion' gang, police said.
Those arrested were identified as Dileep alias Pradyumn Singh (21), Arun Rajpoot (22), Vipin Singh (21), Pawan Kumar Singh (22), Praveen Singh (20) and Brijendra Singh (19).
The police also seized five mobile phones, a laptop, nine ATM cards from various banks, and a police uniform during the arrests.&nbsp;

A young man was arrested in UP's Barabanki on Friday as he walked to the police station with the severed head of his sister, who he killed over her relationship, police said.&nbsp;
The incident took place in the Mithwara village in the Fatehpur area in UP's Barabanki following an argument between Riyaz (22) and his sister Aashifa (18).&nbsp;
Riyaz allegedly behead his sister with a sharp weapon and was on his way to the police station with her head in his hand when the police arrested him, Additional Superintendent of Police, Ashutosh Mishra said Aashifa had recently eloped with her partner Chand Babu, a resident of the same village, Mr Mishra said.&nbsp;
However, the police recovered Aashifa a few days later and sent Babu to jail based on a complaint filed by the woman's family members, he added.&nbsp;
A police team reached the location where the woman was beheaded and sent the body for an autopsy after collecting the required evidence, the ASP said.&nbsp;
According to locals, Riyaz was opposed to his sister's relationship and the two often quarrelled over the issue, the police said.&nbsp;

On the complaint of injured Sub Inspector (SI) Hakim Singh, an FIR has been lodged against 10 named, including Pathak, and 42 others, Station House Officer (SHO), Kotwali police station, Ajay Awasthi said.
The injured also include Sub Inspectors Hemant Kumar, Tarun Singh and constables Rohit Lavania, Subhash Kumar and Neeraj Kumar. They all have been sent to the district hospital for medical examination, he said.
In his complaint, the police outpost incharge of Mandi Samiti Hakim Singh said on Friday night he received instruction to help the Unnao police which had come here to conduct a raid in connection with a case of kidnapping. The latter held five people from a gym.
When the five were being taken to the police outpost, a youth reached there and demanded that all of them be released immediately. They also tried to free themselves when the Unnao police tried taking them along. In the meantime, one of them called BJP leader Subrata Pathak and about 15 minutes later, the MP reached the spot with his security personnel Sachet Pandey, the SI said.
As soon as he got down from the car, the MP asked about the in charge and on being indicated towards Hakim Singh, he caught hold of his collar, the victim said, adding that when colleagues tried to save him, more than 40 people attacked them and tore their uniforms as well.
When the police from other stations reached the spot, the MP ran away with his supporters, the complainant added. Efforts are on to reach out to the MP, said SHO Awasthi.
FIR has been lodged under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (mischief with deadly weapon), 332 (obstructing public servant), 353 (obstructing public servant in the performance of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 427 (causing damage to the amount of Rs 50 or more) and 225 (attempt to forcible release of offender or other person from police custody) of the Indian Penal Code and under section 7 of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 1932, he added.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Akhilesh Yadav, in a Tweet, posted that the public wants to know when will Pathak be arrested.

Eight people, including two teenagers, were killed and more than a dozen injured when a speeding truck hit the pickup van they were travelling in, police said on Sunday.
The accident took place near the Khairkhata village on the Dalpatpur Road in the district's Bhagatpur area, they said.
A group of people were on their way to a wedding function in the pickup van when the accident occurred. Eight people were killed and around 15 injured, Senior Superintendent of Police Hemraj Meena said.
The victims have been identified as Razia (14), Muniza (18), Hanifa (42), Hukumat (60), Musrafa (25), Asif (40), Mohammad Alam (36) and Zubair (45).
The injured were taken to the district hospital from where five were referred to a private medical facility. There were 26 people in the vehicle at the time of the accident, the police said.
The district administration is making arrangements to ensure proper treatment of the injured, officials said.

A sarus crane in UP's Rae Bareli which was recently taken away by the forest department from its rescuer Mohd Arif has gone missing, as per reports.
Nicknamed as Bachcha, the bird has not been seen since March 22 and searches were on to locate the bird, IANS reported.
&nbsp;A senior forest official said there is a possibility that the bird fled the sanctuary in search of Arif and lost its way. Arif was looking after the bird for the past one year and the bird had reportedly developed an attachment with him.
The bird apparently refused to leave Arif after forest officials came to take it citing the Wildlife Protection Act and saying that a wild bird cannot be kept in captivity.

A man from Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur has been arrested for killing his father and chopping his body into pieces allegedly over a monetary dispute, according to an India Today report.&nbsp;
Police said Prince Gupta slit his father Madhur Gupta's throat with a sharp weapon, beheaded him and cut the body parts to fit them into a suitcase after he refused to lend him money.
The incident from the intervening night of March 11 and 12 was reported by the accused 's brother Prashant Gupta, the report added.
Prashant got a complaint registered against his brother after finding traces of blood at their home. He told police that he saw Prince leaving the house without informing him and the trolley bag in which body parts were kept was also missing.
Police said the accused Prince also confessed to having committed the crime. &nbsp;"Had my father given me money, I would not have killed him," Prince said in his confession as per the India Today report.
The report added that the deceased's body parts have been recovered and the accused has been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Atiq Ahmed should be killed in police encounter: former BJP MP

Police said Ahmed, who is lodged in a Gujarat jail, was involved in planning the attack. Ahmed recently moved to the Supreme Court, saying he feared for his life.

&nbsp;Former BJP MP Harinarayan Rajbhar on Thursday said gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed should be brought out of jail and killed in an encounter, adding that the gates of heaven will open for the policeman who does so.
The provocative remark comes days after Ahmed&rsquo;s two alleged aides, accused in the Umesh Pal murder, were killed in separate encounters with UP Police. Police say they fired in retaliation, but the opposition Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have expressed disquiet.
The police encounters followed the gunning down of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005, and two police personnel in Prayagraj last month.
Police said Ahmed, already lodged in a Gujarat jail in connection with another case, was involved in planning the attack.
"Atiq Ahmed conspired the murder while in jail. Atiq Ahmed has killed hundreds of people and forcibly occupied the land of the poor,&rdquo; Rajbhar, who was elected to Parliament in 2014 from Ghosi in Mau district, told reporters.
&ldquo;Atiq Ahmed fears being killed in an encounter. There should be an encounter of all the shooters involved in the Umesh Pal murder case. An encounter of Atiq Ahmed should be carried out after bringing him out of jail. The doors of heaven will open in the future for the officer who carries out Atiq&rsquo;s encounter," he said.
Ahmed recently moved the Supreme Court, saying he feared for his life.
In the petition, he expressed the apprehension that the Uttar Pradesh Police will seek his remand in connection with the Umesh Pal murder and then stage a fake encounter while bringing him from Ahmedabad prison to Prayagraj.
Along with Ahmed, police have named his family members in the Umesh Pal case.
Rajbhar was also asked about SP general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav&rsquo;s remark that Ahmed&rsquo;s son will be killed in a fake encounter in the coming days.
"Ram Gopal Yadav has given birth to these criminals while in government, taught them crime. He is still speaking in support of these criminals,&rdquo; the BJP leader charged.
He said the Mulayam Singh Yadav family &ldquo;promotes such elements&rdquo; and accused SP leaders of being &ldquo;merchants of death&rdquo;.
Targeting Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) leader Om Prakash Rajbhar, the BJP leader called him an &ldquo;accomplice of criminals&rdquo; and said he should be in jail.
He alleged that the SBSP chief and his sons are extorting money from businessmen and doctors.
&ldquo;They are committing these crimes under police protection. If the government does not pay attention now, there is a possibility that more Prayagraj-like incidents will take place in the near future,&rdquo; he said.
The SBSP has quit its alliance with the SP and appears to be inching towards the ruling BJP.

Akhilesh Yadav during his speech threw a bunch of questions regarding the poor condition of law and order in the state among other issues.&nbsp;
Countering the allegations put by the SP leader, UP CM hit out angrily at him even referring to his family feud.&nbsp;
The priest-politician then launched a scathing attack by referring to Atiq Ahmed, the man who has been accused by the victim's family of the murder.&nbsp;

Pointing a finger at Yadav, UP CM said, "Is it not true that Atiq Ahmed who has been accused by the victim's family, is part of the mafia fostered by the Samajwadi Party and we have only worked towards breaking its back?"
Atiq Ahmed is a former MP who is currently lodged in the Gujarat jail.&nbsp; &nbsp;
