Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday hailed the inclusion of manuscripts of the Bhagavad Gita and Bharat Muni's Natyashastra in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register as a "proud moment" for every Indian.
The register consists of books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, sound or video recordings as a documentary heritage of humanity.
In a post in Hindi on X, Adityanath said, "It is a proud moment for every Indian that the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, which has been nourishing human civilisation and consciousness for millennia, and Bharat Muni's Natyashastra have been inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register."

The chief minister described the recognition as "an unprecedented honour for India's unparalleled spiritual consciousness, unique intellect, eternal knowledge traditions, timeless artistic brilliance, and rich cultural heritage".
He attributed the global recognition of India's civilisational treasures to the "epoch-making efforts" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards cultural revival.
"It is the fruitful result of the prime minister's visionary initiatives that India's glorious legacy is today being acknowledged as part of the world's heritage," he added.

UNESCO&nbsp;, the United Nations culture body has unveiled its initiative to create the world's virtual museum dedicated to stolen cultural artefacts.&nbsp; This project aims to increase public awareness about the issue of cultural heritage trafficking and underscore the exceptional significance of preserving cultural heritage.
In this museum, visitors can explore a series of virtual environments featuring intricate 3D representations of these artefacts.&nbsp; Each item will be accompanied by informative content highlighting its distinctive cultural importance, including narratives and insights from the communities connected to it.
Created in partnership with Interpol, the international police organization with a database containing over 52,000 stolen cultural objects from museums, collections, and archaeological sites worldwide, the virtual museum, costing $2.5 million (&pound;2.05 million), is scheduled to launch in 2025.
The UNESCO&nbsp;director general, Audrey Azoulay said that &ldquo;Behind every stolen work or fragment lies a piece of history, identity and humanity that has been wrenched from its custodians, rendered inaccessible to research, and now risks falling into oblivion".&nbsp;

Ukraine's Odessa wins UNESCO status despite Russia opposition

UNESCO added the historic centre of Ukraine's port city Odessa, often described as "the pearl of the Black Sea", to its World Heritage List on Wednesday, overcoming opposition from Russia.

Odessa -- located about 500 kilometres (310 miles) from the capital Kyiv, which sees frequent air strikes from Russian forces -- was also added to the List of World Heritage in Danger.

UNESCO added the historic centre of Ukraine's port city Odessa, often described as "the pearl of the Black Sea", to its World Heritage List on Wednesday, overcoming opposition from Russia.
The 21 member states of the agency's world heritage committee approved inscribing designated areas of the city with six votes in favour, one against and 14 abstentions.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February last year, repeatedly tried to delay the vote to recognise the site's "outstanding universal value" and "the duty of all humanity to protect it".
"While the war continues, this inscription embodies our collective determination to ensure that this city, which has always surmounted global upheavals, is preserved from further destruction," said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay after the decision.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who requested the listing in October to shield the city from Russian bombardment, welcomed the decision.
"Today Odessa got UNESCO protection," he tweeted.
"I'm grateful to partners who help protect our pearl from the Russian invaders' attacks."
Since the Russian invasion, Ukrainians have rushed to try to protect the city's monuments and buildings with sandbags and barricades.

That designation "gives it access to reinforced technical and financial international assistance" to protect or, if necessary, rehabilitate it, UNESCO said.
The agency added it had already helped with repairs on the Odessa Museum of Fine Arts and the Odessa Museum of Modern Art after damage since the beginning of the war.
France praised UNESCO's decision, highlighting in a foreign ministry statement "the exceptional value of this port city, its architecture and its history for Ukraine and for humanity".
"The decision to inscribe Odessa underlines the danger posed to Ukrainian heritage by Russia's war of aggression," the ministry said.
It added that since the invasion, over 230 cultural sites have been damaged or destroyed.

Archeological Survery of India Tuesday announced that three additional historical and cultural sites, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hometown, have been included in the tentative list of UNESCO heritage sites.
The three sites are Sun Temple at Modhera, historic Vadnagar town in Gujarat and rock-cut relief sculptures of Unakoti in Tripura.&nbsp;
PM Modi's hometown Vadnagar, an ancient city in Mehsana district, has been nominated for its rich built heritage.
The Sun Temple, Modhera dedicated to the Sun God, is one of the remarkable gems of temple architecture in India. It impresses not only with its architectural structure and technological achievements as in position of the temple against to Sun; but also in particular with its sculpture decoration, representing true artistic mastery.
The temple is an "exemplary model of Maru-gurjara architecture style of the 11th century of western India under the patronage of the Solanki dynasty. The age of the temple may be inferred from its style belonging to the reign of Bhimadeva I (1022-1063 CE)," reads the description about the temple in the Tentative List section of UNESCO on its website.
The third site, Unakoti -- the chiselled 'Angkor Wat of the North-East' region -- contain the series of Shaivite rock sculptures in the northern part of Tripura.
Nestled in the Raghunandan hills, about 180 km from Agartala, Unakoti is home to giant bas-relief sculptures of the 8-9th century carved out of a huge hill.

A total of six Indian sites have been added to the Tentative List so far this year. India has a total of 40 sites which enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage tag.

Australia on Tuesday said it will strongly oppose a UNESCO plan to list the Great Barrier Reef as being "in danger" over deterioration caused by climate change.
The UN body released a draft report on Monday recommending the reef's World Heritage status be downgraded because of its dramatic coral decline.
The reef is one of seven sites threatened with being added to the endangered heritage list over ecological damage, overdevelopment, overtourism or security concerns.

Australia on Tuesday said it will strongly oppose a UNESCO plan to list the Great Barrier Reef as being "in danger" over deterioration caused by climate change.
The UN body released a draft report on Monday recommending the reef's World Heritage status be downgraded because of its dramatic coral decline.
The reef is one of seven sites threatened with being added to the endangered heritage list over ecological damage, overdevelopment, overtourism or security concerns.
Others include the Italian city of Venice, which has been overrun with tourists, and the waterfront of the English city of Liverpool.
