March 24 is an important day as it is on this day that Dr Robert Koch discovered the bacteria that causes TB. This groundbreaking announcement led to better understanding, diagnosis, and eventual treatment of the disease. It was on the centenary of Dr. Koch's discovery that the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD) proposed observing March 24 as World TB Day to raise awareness. The first World TB Day was officially observed in 1983.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately one-fourth of the world's population is believed to have been exposed to tuberculosis (TB) bacteria. Among those infected, around 5-10% are likely to develop symptoms and progress to TB disease.
When it comes to treatment for TB disease, it typically involves antibiotics and can be life-threatening if left untreated. It's crucial to maintain good hygiene practices, including covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, avoiding close contact with others, and wearing a mask, to prevent the spread of TB bacteria.

TB patients must consume energy-boosting foods like whole-grain cereals, millets, ghee, nuts and seeds which are rich in carbohydrates and healthy fats.
Protein-rich food like meats and fish or lentils, milk and dairy products are equally recommended.
Ensure to consume all important vitamins and minerals. Fruits and veggies like mangoes, oranges, sweet potatoes, carrots, guavas, amlas and tomatoes are excellent sources of Vitamin A, C and E.
Leafy vegetables are vital sources of vitamins and minerals and should be a part of a TB patient's diet with about 5-6 servings per day.

The TB drive initiated by the medical department of Agar Malwa district will be held from October 24-31 will present people with the opportunity to help the district administration in identifying TB patients.

The Madhya Pradesh government has come up with a unique move to battle Tuberculosis or TB&nbsp; in the state.
Malwa district in MP has launched a special Diwali offer for people in a bid to identify new TB patients.
The TB drive initiated by the medical department of Agar Malwa district will be held from October 24-31 will present people with the opportunity to help the district administration in identifying TB patients.
In return they get rewards in the form of gold, silver coins, mobile phones and lots more. But the catch here is that only those bringing new TB patients will be considered for the reward.
The initiative has been taken in line with the Central government's 'Eliminate TB by 2025' drive, said district officials.

Going by the&nbsp;World Health Organization&rsquo;s 2021 Global TB report, the COVID-19 pandemic has reversed years of development in the fight against tuberculosis, and for the first time in almost a decade, TB mortality has soared.&nbsp;As per WHO estimates, in 2020, 1.5 million individuals died from tuberculosis.
According to National Health Service (NHS), UK, tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that is transmitted by inhaling small droplets from an infected person's cough or sneeze. While it mainly affects the lungs, it can also affect other parts of the body such as the stomach (abdomen), glands, bones, and the nervous system. Although tuberculosis is a potentially fatal infection, it can be healed with the correct medications.
The report found that the primary issue is a break in the access to TB services as well as the lack of resources. There has been a significant shift of resources from the fight against tuberculosis to the Covid-19 crisis.&nbsp;

The sand art reads 'the clock is ticking' which is the theme for this year, set by the World Health Organisation. It aims to raise awareness about the fact that the world is running out of time to tackle the illness.
According to WHO, every day, nearly 4000 people lose their lives to TB and close to 28,000 people fall ill with the disease.
