Two minor boys glued to their mobile phones while crossing a railway track were killed after being hit by a train engine near Izzatnagar station of the North Eastern Railway, police said.
Izzatnagar Station House Officer (SHO) Vijendra Singh said the incident took place when the boys&mdash;14-year-old Aditya and his 11-year-old friend Pankaj&mdash;were crossing the railway track.
&ldquo;Both boys, residents of Gali No. 8, Izzatnagar, had left home to get a haircut. Aditya was listening to music with earphones plugged in, while Pankaj was using his mobile phone and crossing the railway track,&rdquo; Singh said.
At the same time, an empty engine that was heading toward Izzatnagar station from Kathgodam approached the spot.
Onlookers near the tracks shouted to alert the boys. The loco pilot also blew the horn repeatedly, but the boys, engrossed in their mobile phones, failed to respond and were hit by the engine.
Both boys died on the spot. Their bodies have been sent for postmortem, the SHO said.

The ATM, provided by a private bank, has been installed in an air-conditioned chair car coach of the daily express service and will be made available to passengers shortly, they said. &ldquo;The ATM has been installed on board the Panchvati Express on experimental basis,&rdquo; Swapnil Nila, chief public relations officer of the CR said. According to the railway officials, the ATM has been installed in a cubicle at the rear end of the coach, a space earlier used as a makeshift pantry. A shutter door has been provided to ensure safety and accessibility while the train is in motion, he said. Railway officials said necessary coach modification was undertaken at the Manmad Railway Workshop. The Panchvati Express operates daily between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Manmad Junction and it completes its one way journey in approximately 4.35 hours. It is one of the popular trains on the route due to convenient timing for intercity journey.

In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict in southwestern Pakistan, militants have seized 35 hostages after targeting a train, according to local police reports on Tuesday.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist militant organization, has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they are holding a total of 182 hostages. The group has issued a dire warning, threatening to execute the captives unless security forces withdraw from the area.
The train, carrying nearly 350 passengers, was ambushed within a tunnel, leaving many terrified but reportedly safe, authorities affirmed. The train's driver sustained severe injuries during the assault.
"A relief train is being dispatched to assist approximately 350 passengers, including women and children, who remain unharmed," confirmed Rana Dilawar, a senior police official in the district.
In response to the hostage situation, security forces have initiated a large-scale military operation, deploying helicopters and special forces to the mountainous region.
An explosion was reported near the tunnel, and security personnel are currently engaged in gunfire exchanges with the militants.
The BLA, which advocates for Balochistan's independence from Pakistan, has asserted the killing of 20 soldiers and the downing of a drone &ndash; claims yet to be verified by Pakistani authorities.
The group stated that among the captives are Pakistani army members and other security officials on leave.
In a statement disseminated via email and Telegram, the BLA announced, "Civilian passengers, particularly women, children, the elderly, and Baloch citizens, have been released and provided with a secure route."
The militants declared, "The BLA further warns that if military intervention continues, all hostages will be executed."
The Jaffar Express, the train involved, was en route from Balochistan's provincial capital, Quetta, to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when it came under fire.
Pakistan's Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, strongly criticized the attack, asserting that the government would not negotiate with "beasts who fire on innocent passengers." Shahid Rind, a spokesperson for the Balochistan government, announced the imposition of emergency measures to manage the crisis, though specifics remain undisclosed.
The BLA represents the largest faction among several ethnic groups that have long contested the government's policies, accusing it of exploiting Balochistan's abundant gas and mineral resources without equitable benefits for the local population.
The conflict has led to recurrent assaults on governmental, military, and Chinese interests in the region.

Chaudhary is accused of gunning down his superior officer ASI Tika Ram Meena and three passengers onboard the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express near Palghar.
He was held with his service weapon from along the railway tracks at Mira Road after passengers pulled the train's alarm chain.&nbsp;

He said the train came to a halt near Unchi Bassi due to steep gradient, after covering a distance of more than 70 km.
The officials said that the train was successfully halted with the assistance of sandbags.

The man, who used to work in Chennai, was travelling to Banda with his brother-in-law when the incident occurred.
Passengers were forced to travel with the body for about 600 kilometres despite urging railway authorities to remove it.
The body was finally taken into custody by the Government Railway Police after the train reached Jhansi. The body was sent for post-mortem.

'So far, 11 people have died and 50 others are injured. We are presently focusing on the track restoration work. The rescue operation is over now...We have arranged buses and trains for the stranded passengers,' Biswajit Sahu, CPRO, East Coast Railway, said.&nbsp;
Emergency workers and local volunteers were on Sunday night searching the wreckage to rescue passengers trapped in the mangled remains of coaches after a train overshot the signal and rammed into another train in Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh on the Howrah-Chennai line.
At least 11 persons died and around 50 injured were shifted to hospitals after the accident involving 08532 Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train and 08504 Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger Special occurred at around 7 pm.
Two coaches of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train from the rear and the loco of Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger which overshot the signal got derailed, railway officials said, adding that human error is suspected to have caused the accident.
Images from the site showed several crushed and overturned coaches and emergency workers struggling to rescue the injured in the dark. According to local officials, the electric lines were affected due to the crash.
Rescue and medical teams were rushed to the site from surrounding areas after the incident, officials said.

Expressing shock over the incident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy also instructed officials to pay an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh each to the injured from the state.
He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured from other states, according to an official release.

At least nine people were killed and more than 32 injured after two trains collided on the Howrah-Chennai line in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday evening, police said.
A senior official of the East Coast Railway (ECR) said at around 7 pm, the Palasa passenger train hit the Rayagada passenger train from behind at Kankatapalli, causing three coaches to derail.
According to the information provided by Vizianagaram Collector S Nagalakshmi, at least 32 people were injured.
A senior railway official said the injured were being shifted to hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram.
In a post on X, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the government has announced ex-gratia payments for the victims.
"All injured shifted to hospitals. Ex-gratia compensation disbursement started -- Rs 10 Lakh in case of death, Rs 2 Lakh towards grievous and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries," he said on the microblogging website.

Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad went to the site of the accident.
"We are in the process of checking all the coaches. Once that is done, we will be able to ascertain the exact number of the deceased. We have sent 13 injured people to the government primary healthcare centre. There may be some people with simple injuries," Prasad told PTI.
He further said they are in the process of separating the entangled coaches and would get a clearer picture once that is done.
"We have received 32 injured passengers from the accident site and some of them are in a serious condition. Besides, some injured passengers have been admitted to other hospitals also," Dr Anila Sunandini, Superintendent of the Government General Hospital, Vizianagaram, told PTI.

"@narendramodi spoke to Railway Minister Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw and took stock of the situation in the wake of the unfortunate train derailment between Alamanda and Kantakapalle section. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected. The Prime Minister extends condolences to the bereaved families and prays that the injured recover soon," it said.
Vaishnaw said all passengers have been shifted from the accident spot.
"Rescue operations are underway. All passengers shifted. @narendramodi Ji reviewed the situation. Spoke to the CM of Andhra Pradesh. State govt and railway teams are working in close coordination," he said on X.
Reddy instructed officials to undertake rescue operations. He asked them to arrange a sufficient number of ambulances to ferry the injured.
Andhra Pradesh minister Botcha Satyanarayana also reached the spot and is overseeing the rescue operations.
Senior officials of Vizianagaram district are also at the site.
The rescue efforts are being hampered by the darkness. Meanwhile, the ECR has set up helplines.
Local administration and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were informed, seeking assistance and ambulances, and accident relief trains have reached the site, the officials said.&nbsp;

Though the smoke was controlled immediately, the panic stricken passengers refused to travel in the coach fearing another electrical breakdown. They demanded a replacement of the coach.
Some passengers first noticed smoke in the B-5 coach and raised an alarm. Following this most of the passengers reportedly got down and refused to re-board the train, an official said.
"It was reported that a minor electrical issue occurred in the coach no. B-5 of Secunderabad-Agartala Express near Brahmapur station. The staff on duty attended to the issue immediately and rectified it," a ECoR official said.

Three more Greek rail officials were charged on Thursday in connection with the head-on collision along Greece&rsquo;s main rail route, outside the northern town of Tempe.
Two station managers and a supervisor were charged with endangering rail safety leading to the loss of life, a senior official involved in the investigation told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The three have been summoned to provide additional testimony and have not been detained.
The charges are similar to those filed against a 59-year-old station manager who was arrested in the wake of the February 28 crash in northern Greece and is currently in pre-trial detention.
The disaster involving a passenger train and a freight carrier has set back widely reported plans by Greece&rsquo;s center-right government to call a general election for early April.

Delhi youths filming video at railway tracks hit by speeding train, die

"On inquiry, it was found that the deceased used to shoot short films on mobile and came to railway tracks to make live videos.

Two youths were run over by a train while filming on a mobile phone at railway tracks near Kanti Nagar flyover in the national capital, Delhi Police said. The deceased youngsters have been identified as Vansh Sharma, 23, a 3rd year BTech student, and Monu, 20, a salesman. Both of them hailed from Kanti Nagar Extension, Delhi.
According to the police, the incident took place on February 22 and the police received the information at around 4.35 pm at the Shahdara police station, Old Delhi Railway station.
Following the information, a police team reached the spot and recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem examination. The police said that the bodies were shifted to GTB Hospital mortuary and preserved in GTB Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Their mobiles were also found on the track.
"On inquiry, it was found that the deceased used to shoot short films on mobile and came to railway tracks to make live videos. Their mobiles were also found on the track," the police said. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
