2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift India Launch Confirmed

The Toyota Fortuner facelift will be the next major launch in India from the Japanese manufacturer and the updated version of the SUV will arrive in the country on January 6, 2021.
The Toyota Fortuner comes to India in just six months after its global debut in Thailand earlier this year. The facelifted version sports a host of new updates including a revised front grille that&rsquo;s now larger, new LED projector headlamps with revised DRLs, larger air intakes and more.

The SUV will also get new alloy wheels and new LED taillights. The cabin will see minor updates on the new model including a larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There will also be ambient lighting, revised instrument cluster, and more. Toyota is also expected to introduce new safety features on the 2021 Fortuner.
Mechanically, the SUV will be offered with the same 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel engines, paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Expect to see a marginal hike in prices on the new Fortuner range.

Since its launch in 2016, the Toyota Innova Crysta has always been a bit pricey! And the BS6 switchover has made it even more so, for the large capacity diesel engine has to incorporate an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) exhaust gas treatment system. So, to keep its price in check, Toyota has replaced the larger, more expensive 2.8-litre engine in the diesel automatic model with the 2.4-litre oil burner &ndash; which has now been mated to the same six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. On paper, this engine develops 25bhp less, with a peak power output of 147bhp at 3,400rpm, in comparison to the 2.8&rsquo;s 172bhp at 3,400rpm. The peak torque, meanwhile, has been upped by 17Nm from that of the manual 2.4. So, with the 2.4 mated to an automatic transmission, you get the same 360Nm as the 2.8, but now its spread over a narrower 1,400 &ndash; 2,600rpm range, in comparison to that of the 2.8. It seems Toyota is going to the moon. The car maker is collaborating with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency to develop an electric rover that uses Toyota's fuel cell vehicle technologies. According to reports, the pressurized space vehicle will measure six meters in length and will accommodate two astronauts for a distance of 10,000 kilometers. The rover will also house solar panels for supplementary power.
