Phase 2 of Lok Sabha polls will witness a high-profile battle in the Thiruvananthapuram constituency of Kerala. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who is a three-time MP from the seat will face Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar of the BJP and CPI veteran Pannian Raveendran.&nbsp;
Shashi Tharoor is seeking a fourth term from Thiruvananthapuram. He has ecpressed confidence in his 15-year track record representing the constituency. Tharoor says his work speaks for itself.&nbsp;
On the other hand, BJP has fielded Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar against Shashi Tharoor. This is the first time that Chandrasekhar will contest Lok Sabha polls.&nbsp;
It is a three-way contest in Thiruvananthapuram as the Communist Party of India (CPI) has fielded veteran leader Pannian Raveendram from this high-profile seat.&nbsp;
The 78-year-old CPI candidate, who is a football enthusiast, earlier won from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency in 2005. He also holds the record as the last Left leader to win from this Lok Sabha constituency.

A full emergency was declared at the International Airport on Friday after a Dammam-bound flight from Calicut was diverted to the state capital due to suspected hydraulic failure.
The fight landed at the airport at 12.15 PM, according to airport sources.
The sources said the tail part of the Air-India Express IX 385, carrying 182 passengers, hit the runway during take-off from the Calicut international Airport in the morning.
The flight landed at the airport after dumping fuel over the Arabian Sea to facilitate safe landing, the sources told PTI.
The airport management declared a full emergency.

Air India Express said that it was arranging another flight for the passengers.

An Air India Express flight was forced to return shortly after take-off due to a technical glitch on 23 January 2023. The flight was headed to Muscat, Oman from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The flight, IX 549, which took off from the state capital of Kerala at 8:30 am returned to the international airport at 9:17 am after one of the pilots noticed a technical glitch in the on-board computer system.
Air India Express said that it was arranging another flight for the passengers.

The demonstration was reportedly organised over the controversial SilverLine train project. The project, also known as K-Rail, has seen fierce protests from Opposition parties, but the Left government has been adamant.
The project envisages semi-high-speed trains connecting the northern and southern points of the coastal state of Kerala. Trains will run at 200 km/h between Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram, cutting travel time from 12 hours to 4 hours, claims the government.
However, the Opposition claims that the Rs 63,000 crore project will ensnare the state in debt.

Kerala reported its first case of the Zika&nbsp;virus after a 24-year-old pregnant woman tested positive for the mosquito transmitted disease in Thiruvananthapuram.
The woman&nbsp;had been admitted to the hospital on June 28 with fever, headache and red marks on her body and delivered her baby on July 7.&nbsp;
The state's health minister&nbsp;Veena George said in addition to the one confirmed case, there 13 suspected cases of virus in the city. All 13 are healthcare workers, she added.&nbsp;

Kerala HC refuses to stay Thiruvananthapuram airport privatisation

PTI,&nbsp;Kochi:&nbsp;The Kerala High Court on Tuesday declined to stay the further proceedings in leasing out Thiruvananthapuram international airport to Adani Enterprises.
Considering an application by the Kerala government seeking the stay, the court adjourned the case for detailed hearing.
Directing the government to produce the documents before September 9, the bench said a detailed hearing in the matter will be held on September 15.
In its application, the state government said unless the stay is granted, it will be put to irreparable injury and hardship.
The state government filed the application in the court, after an all-party-meeting in the state demanded withdrawal of the Union Cabinet's decision last week to lease out the airport to Adani Enterprises.
Last year, the high court had dismissed the petition challenging the decision, terming it as not maintainable under Article 226 of the Constitution.
The state government then filed an appeal before the Supreme Court against the high court order.
The apex court set aside the judgement of the high court and the matter was remanded back to it for a decision on merit.
Referring to the top court directive, the state government said, "all further proceedings in relation to grant of lease with regard to operation, management and development of Thiruvananthapuram international airport to Adani Enterprises Ltd, is to be stayed pending disposal of the aforementioned writ petition."&nbsp;
