Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully thwarted a potential grenade attack on a police establishment with the arrest of five members of a Pak-ISI-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module linked to foreign-based gangster Jiwan Fauji, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.
Those arrested have been identified as Naresh Kumar alias Babbu of Haripura, Abhinav Bhagat alias Abhi, Ajay Kumar alias Ajju, and Sunny Kumar, all residents of Haripura in Amritsar, and a 17-year-old juvenile. Police teams have also recovered one hand grenade and one country-made .32 pistol along with five live cartridges.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that gangster Jiwan Fauji, currently operating from abroad, has been running a terror module in border districts of the state with the help of the arrested accused persons, who were recruited and radicalized to execute criminal activities. Probe has also revealed that the arrested persons were provided with motorcycles and tasked with retrieving weapon consignments from the Ajnala sector, he added.
The DGP said that the arrested accused were actively plotting to target police establishments with grenades. Further investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case, he said.
Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that during a follow-up recovery operation, accused Ajay Kumar attempted to escape by snatching a service weapon and opening fire at the police team. The accused sustained injuries in his leg during retaliatory fire and has been undergoing medical treatment at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar, he added.
The CP said that the probe has also revealed that the arrested accused persons had also provided logistic support and an Activa scooter to the assailants, who fired at the Karyana Store owner recently at Mahal village in Amritsar. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further links in the terror network, he added.
A case FIR No. 103 dated 30/04/2025 has been registered under section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Police Station Islamabad in Amritsar.

Pune orders 111 Pakistani nationals to exit by April 27

Following a local terror attack, Pune has ordered 111 Pakistani nationals to leave India. Visas, except medical, are suspended. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has also reported 57 Pakistanis on long-term visas.

The Pune district administration has identified 111 Pakistani nationals living in the district and directed them to leave India by April 27.
The action followed the suspension of all types of visas issued to Pakistani citizens in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, the medical visas will be valid for an additional two days.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi told reporters that data on Pakistani nationals is being collected from visa-issuing authorities and the passport office.
"So far, we have received information about 111 Pakistani nationals. All of them have been informed that it is mandatory for them to leave the country within the stipulated deadline," he said.
The visas were issued for various reasons, including tourism and medical treatment, the collector said, adding, "Those here for medical reasons have been given a concession to leave by April 29." Meanwhile, police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar said 57 Pakistani nationals are in the city on long-term visas.
The collector's office is waiting for further instructions in this case, a district official told PTI.
"There are 57 Pakistani nationals in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city. But they are all on long-term visas (LTV)," he said.

Harpreet Passia, a gangster turned terrorist, was arrested in the U.S. for orchestrating terror attacks in Punjab. His capture highlights a significant strike against transnational terror networks.

Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia, a gangster-turned-terrorist who has been held in the US, was wanted in orchestrating 16 terror attacks including 14 grenade attacks in Punjab, official sources said on Friday.
Passia (29) was held by the FBI and the US Immigration department's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), in Sacramento in the US.
In January, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh on Passia in connection with a hand grenade attack on a house in Chandigarh in September last year.
Passia and Pakistan-based designated terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda were among the four accused named in a charge sheet in the case by the NIA.
Punjab Police investigation had found that Passia provided the accused with explosives, weapons and logistical support through his local associates.
The September 2024 attack was intended to target a retired Punjab Police officer, who the assailants believed to be the occupant of the house in Sector 10, Chandigarh.
A total of 33 FIRs have been registered at different police stations and 10 look out circulars have been issued against Passia, according to a dossier prepared by Punjab Police.
Hailing from village Pashia in Amritsar district, Passia had left for Dubai in April 2018 and returned to India in February 2019. He went to London in October in 2020 and thereafter moved to the US.
Passia was initially aligned with Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang members including the US- based associates Darmanjot Singh (Darman Kahlon) and Amritpal Singh (Amrit Bal).
This affiliation with the Bhagwanpuria gang marks the inception of Passia's involvement in organized crime, laying the foundation for his subsequent collaboration with Pakistan-based Harwinder Singh Rinda, a designated terrorist of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
Rinda, lately, roped in Passia for execution of terror attacks in the state.
Between September and October 2023, Passia, in collusion with Rinda, orchestrated a series of extortion and terror activities in Punjab, India, according to the dossier.
They targeted liquor contractors and businessmen by making extortion calls and executing arson and shooting incidents at liquor vends in Batala and Amritsar to instill fear and force compliance.
Several terror and criminal modules backed by the Rinda-Passia network were busted by Punjab Police. The modules were raised to target leaders of Hindu groups, police establishments, serving and retired Punjab Police officers, processions carried out by Hindu groups, liquor contractors from Amritsar-Batala region for execution to raise funds for terrorism.
The alliance between Passia and Rinda led to the formation of a nefarious network aimed at executing acts of terror across Punjab.
Passia's collaboration with Rinda intensifies the gravity of his actions.
His participation in planning and orchestrating terror modules aimed at targeting key figures in Punjab underscores a significant threat.
Between late 2024 and early 2025, BKI orchestrated a series of 16 terror attacks across Punjab, including 14 hand grenade assaults, one improvised explosive device (IED) attack, and one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) strikes targeting police establishment and officials' residences.
A notable incident involved the planting of an IED near Ajnala Police Station on November 23, 2024 and a RPG (rocket propelled grenade) attack on Police establishment Qila Lal Singh district Gurdaspur on the intervening night of 6 and 7 April.
These attacks were coordinated by Passia under the direction of Rinda, and in collaboration with his other US-based associates - Gurdev Singh Jaisal Pehalwan, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi Nawanshehria and Germany-based Swaran Singh alias Jeevan Faujia, along with their local accomplices.
The Rinda-Passia network has been recruiting juveniles, often struggling with drug addiction, to carry out terrorist activities in exchange for money and narcotics.
In December 2024, Punjab Police arrested a 17-year-old involved in planting an IED at Ajnala Police Station, who confessed to being lured into the operation with promises of drugs and cash.

Mangaluru autorickshaw blast: Accused 'inspired' by global terror outfit, say police

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Alok Kumar said the police are trying to find out the 24-year old's links with people outside Karnataka.

Police found materials that go into making bomb from the rented house in Mysuru of Mangaluru autorickshaw blast accused Mohammed Shariq, who was "influenced and inspired" by a global terrorist organisation, a senior police officer said on Monday.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Alok Kumar said the police are trying to find out the 24-year old's links with people outside Karnataka.
"His handler was Abdul Mateen Taha from Suddaguntepalya (in Bengaluru) on whom the National Investigation Agency has announced a reward of Rs five lakh," the ADGP said.
Shariq was "influenced and inspired" by a (terrorist) organisation with global presence, Kumar said.
Shariq, hailing from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, was travelling in an autorickshaw with a pressure cooker fitted with detonator, wires and batteries, when it exploded on the outskirts of Mangaluru on Saturday.
He suffered burn injuries, is currently being treated in a city hospital and unable to speak.
Karnataka police termed the explosion "an act of terror" with intention to cause serious damage.
They are probing the incident along with central agencies.
"...Our priority is to see that he survives, we have to take him to a stage where we can question him," Kumar said.
"We found matchbox, sulphur, phosphorus, batteries, circuit and nut and bolts from the (Shariq's rented) house (in Mysuru). Mohan Kumar, the owner of the house, was not aware of these activities," Kumar said.
Taha was the "main handler". He along with Khwaja and Mohammed Pasha from Tamil Nadu were booked under the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Suddaguntepalya in Bengaluru in 2020.
Apart from Taha, Arafat Ali from Thirthahalli was also like his handler, he added.
Search operations were carried out in seven locations including Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Mysuru and Thirthahalli, the ADGP said.
"We are trying to find out those who harboured him," he added.
Shariq is being booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, police sources said.
He was also involved in painting objectionable graffiti in Mangaluru earlier and was later released on bail.
His name had also earlier surfaced when a communal clash broke out over putting up the Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's photo at a public place on August 15 in the district headquarters town of Shivamogga.
The vandals had gone on a rampage and stabbed Prem Singh, a servant in a nearby shop.
In this connection, police arrested Mohammed Zabihulla alias Charbi, Syed Yasin and Maaz Muneer Ahmed while Shariq absconded.
Yasin and Maaz had told police at the time that they were "brainwashed" by Shariq. The group was planning to set up an Islamic State base in the country and wanted to "establish a Caliphate" in the country.
A messaging services app came handy for Shariq to establish a link with the Syria-based Islamic State (IS) militants from whom they got a PDF to learn how to make a bomb, a police officer from Shivamogga who investigated the case told PTI.
This year, the group prepared an improvised explosive device to carry out destruction and tested it on the banks of Tunga river. Their next target was to carry out explosions in various parts of Karnataka, the officer said.
"Shariq had made the gang members into believing that the independence India got from the British was not a real one. They need to struggle further to establish a Caliphate. Only then, India will get freedom", the Shivamogga-based terror module members had told the investigating police team then.&nbsp;

According to media reports, the passenger identified as Mohammed Shariq is an accused in two separate unlawful activities cases in Karnataka since 2020.
24 year old Shariq was injured in the explosion on Saturday and has sustained 40% burn injuries. The driver of the auto rickshaw was also injured .
Earlier on Sunday, senior police officials confirmed the explosion inside the moving vehicle was an act of terror triggered by low-intensity explosives concealed in a pressure cooker.

Moreover, the FIR reads that Khan in his speech had "terrorised and threatened top police officials and a respected female additional sessions judge" with the aim to stop them from performing their functions and abstain from pursuing any action against any individual related to his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party.

During his mass rally in Islamabad on Saturday, Khan reportedly vowed to file complaints against police officers and a judge.

However, in the latest development according to a report in the Times of India Khan has moved the Islamabad court and sought pre-arrest bail in the case. As per reports by Pakistani media Imran could also be put under house arrest. The law enforcement agencies are said to be waiting for instructions from higher-ups. The interior ministry has reportedly sought written permission from the Prime Minister’s Office for Khan’s arrest. Meanwhile, Khan has been receiving massive support from party workers who have gathered outside his residence.

Yet another targeted attack by terrorists took place in Jammu & Kashmir on April 18. A head constable of the Railway Protection Force, or RPF, was killed in the attack. An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was injured in the incident.
The attack occurred in Kakapora in Pulwama district. The victims were near a tea stall when a terrorist approached them on foot. The attacker appears to have caught them by surprise, quickly shooting them, and then fleeing.
The incident was caught on CCTV. Head Constable Surinder Singh was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. ASI Devraj suffered injuries.
This was reportedly the ninth terror attack in April so far. There has been a spate of attacks on security personnel and civilians in Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks.

Yet another targeted attack by terrorists took place in Jammu &amp; Kashmir on April 18.&nbsp;A head constable of the Railway Protection Force, or RPF, was killed in the attack.&nbsp;An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was injured in the incident.

Another encounter happened on Saturday, one terrorist was gunned down and more militants are expected at this moment at Chirmarg in the Zainapora area of Shopian. However, it is not yet known who this militant is.
It has been reported that along with a terrorist a soldier was also shot dead during an encounter.Following the information provided by the JK Police in the area, the police, army, and CRPF jointly launched an operation earlier. However, the hiding militants fired upon the joint team of forces as they led to a heightened of their search for the target location.It is the 15th encounter of this year and the 2nd of this month that security forces have been involved in.
Earlier on 5th Feb, two terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF) were shot dead in the Zakura area of Srinagar City.

Reports said that the police, army and the Central Reserve Police Force launched a search operation after receiving inputs about the presence of ultras in&nbsp;Chirmarg&nbsp;village of the volatile south Kashmir district. As the forces came close to the suspected spot, the hiding ultras opened a barrage of fire which was returned. In the initial round of firing an ultra and two soldiers died while another army trooper was injured.&nbsp; A defence ministry spokesperson based in Srinagar identified the slain soldiers as Santosh Yadav and Chavan Romit Tanaji, both from the&nbsp;Rashtriya Rifles unit. This is the 15th encounter between security&nbsp;forces and terrorists in Kashmir valley since the beginning of this year.

"We ourselves are responsible... as we let [others] use us, sacrificed the reputation of our country for aid and made a foreign policy that went against the public interest [and was devised] for money."
