BJP MP Tejasvi Surya was on Monday detained for staging a demonstration at Bengaluru's Jayanagar Metro station demanding affordable public transport in the city, police said
Surya, who is also the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president, staged protest at the Metro Station against the Metro fare hike, which has been increased from Re one to Rs five depending on the distance.
The hike has now been put on hold.
According to Surya, it happened after the Centre's intervention.&nbsp;
The MP staged demonstration with an empty trunk to convey that the state government's promises are empty trunk.&nbsp;
The protest was also in response to Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's statement that Surya is an empty trunk who is more active on social media and not on the ground.
Speaking to PTI after being detained, Surya said, "Just because we are asking for affordable public transport and accountability, the government is forcing arrest and detention. It's shameful."&nbsp;
He said that instead of providing roads, infrastructure and better amenities, the state government is "arresting" him.&nbsp;
Speaking to reporters, he also said, "Metro fare hike has been put on hold for the second time due to pressure from the Union government. The state government should release a white paper on the economic situation."

He claimed that during the UPA years, the president's address reflected a "narrative of excuses" for the government's failure on multiple fronts.
He said "weak leadership gives excuses" while "great leadership" delivers despite challenges.
This, he said, was the key difference between the Congress and the BJP.
During his speech, the Bangalore (South) MP said that while "leaders have come and gone" in various thriving democracies of the world, Narendra Modi returned to power for a record third term with a thumping majority.
Surya also attacked the UPA government over its stance on terrorism and Naxalism, triggering brief, heated exchanges between the opposition and the treasury benches.
He said while the UPA did nothing to deal with terrorism, the Modi government hit back with military strikes.
The BJP leader claimed that the president's address during the UPA tenure lacked mention of the country's cultural ethos and heritage.
As some Congress members protested, Home Minister Amit Shah intervened, saying Surya was only referring to the content of the president's address and not to any particular leader.
Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal moved the Motion of Thanks, which Surya seconded.
The President addresses the joint sitting of the two Houses at the beginning of the first session of the year.
President Droupadi Murmu delivered her address on January 28, marking the beginning of the Budget Session.
Surya said that despite the global slowdown, India remained one of the fastest-growing economies, with youth being empowered as torchbearers of the country's future.
"We have delivered the most honest government," he said.

BJP leader and Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya on Monday asked the state government why it is wasting the taxpayers' money with regard to the Tunnel Road project.
&nbsp; Calling it "unscientific", he alleged that the project is bad in design and will not achieve the objective of resolving Bengaluru's traffic crisis.
A couple of days ago, it was reported in the media that the Karnataka government had invited bids for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report for the proposed second Tunnel Road project between KR Puram and Nayandahalli, a 28-km stretch.
Surya, in a post on 'X', in which he had tagged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, pointed out the criticism the government had already received for the "shoddy DPR and feasibility report" of the Hebbal-Silk Board stretch of the Tunnel Road.
&nbsp; According to him, the first DPR had blown out costs, had fundamental errors in data, contextual inaccuracies and even blatant copy-pasting.
"This is an exercise which is yet another waste of the taxpayers' money. The Tunnel Road Project is bad in design, poorly thought out and will not achieve the objective of resolving Bengaluru's traffic crisis," the BJP leader said in the post.
Surya said the DPR had even disregarded Bengaluru's Master Plan 2031, which places more importance on public transportation, like expanding the BMTC fleet to 15,000 buses.
&nbsp; "It also failed to align the Tunnel Road with critical projects like Metro Phases 2B and 3A. The proposed 61-month construction timeline does not consider the city's ongoing and planned infrastructure projects, risking significant disruptions in an already cramped city due to the dug roads," he said.
According to him, the BBMP's Rs 15,000 crore estimate for 1 corridor of the Tunnel Road would primarily serve only 25 per cent of vehicles - four-wheelers that can pay tolls.
"We've seen how the inclusion of shopping malls in intermodal hubs in the project plan suggested that real estate development interests, rather than traffic management needs, were driving key design decisions," he added.
&nbsp; He alleged that the state government was rushing through the project.
"An analysis by Prof Ashish Verma of the IISc (Indian Institute of Science) has shown that while Metro development reduces traffic congestion, tunnel roads risk increasing vehicle movement and does not mitigate congestion in the long run," said the Lok Sabha member.
Surya suggested that the government should stop this "unscientific" pursuit of Tunnel Road for Bengaluru. "...Instead, prioritise initiatives that genuinely serve Bengaluru's residents," he said.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Taking to 'X', the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer posted: "Case is booked against Tejasvi Surya MP and candidate of Bengaluru South PC on April 25 at Jayanagar police station for posting a video on X handle and soliciting votes on the grounds of religion."

On Tuesday, IndiGo said a passenger accidentally opened the emergency exit of the plane after boarding at Chennai airport but did not disclose the identity of the person.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday said BJP MP Tejasvi Surya himself reported and apologised for the incident where he accidentally opened the emergency exit of an IndiGo plane last month.
The minister's remarks come against the backdrop of Surya, the ruling BJP's Bengaluru South MP, facing flak from Congress over the incident, which happened on December 10 last year at Chennai airport.
On Tuesday, IndiGo said a passenger accidentally opened the emergency exit of the plane after boarding at Chennai airport but did not disclose the identity of the person.
When asked about the incident, Scindia said it had happened on the ground.
"When the incident happened, Tejasvi Surya ji himself reported that incident, based on which the full protocol was followed as DGCA itself has investigated and enunciated. The full protocol was followed and pressurisation was checked, all the other checks were in place and only then (did) the aircraft take off. I think he himself apologised...
"The person concerned, Tejasvi Surya himself reported to the crew and the pilot following which all the protocols were followed and only then was the aircraft allowed to take off," the minister told reporters on the sidelines of an event here.
In a statement on Tuesday, IndiGo said a passenger travelling on flight 6E 7339 from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli on December 10, 2022 accidentally opened the emergency exit during the boarding process.

As per the report, Chennai Airport and DGCA officials confirmed the incident that the emergency door of the plane was accidentally unlocked. However, they refused to divulge any details on the passenger's identity or whether it was Surya.
But the publication quoted an eyewitness saying "It was Tejasvi Surya who opened the exit".&nbsp;&nbsp;
Another report by The New Indian Express also stated that the Airlines did not comment on the identity but added that the passenger apologised for the incident.&nbsp;

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who exposed the hospital beds scam, pertaining to 'blocking' the beds in fake names for Covid-19 patients on payment of exorbitant amounts, has now sought to give a communal turn to the scam.
While levelling the charges, the Bengaluru South MP had named 16 from Muslim community and sought to know why "they are controlling the Covid war room in the city." A city civic official told PTI that there are over 200 people in the Covid war room and not just 16 as mentioned by the MP.
Surya had on Tuesday alleged that hospitals in the city 'blocked' at least 4,065 beds in fake names to make a killing at a time when Covid-19 cases were rising in the country and Karnataka.
Former CM and Congress leader Siddaramaiah, in a series of tweets, slammed Surya for being 'insensitive' and 'communalising' the issue.

BJYM national president Tejasvi Surya on Thursday came down heavily on the West Bengal government over what he called a "brutal attack" on BJP activists, during their march to the state secretariat. The young right wing leader said it was a "black day as rule of law were murdered" in the state.&nbsp;Surya, the BJP MP from Bengaluru South, also sought an inquiry by the Union Home Ministry into the blue chemical- laced water that was sprayed on party activists during the rally and termed it a "gross violation of human rights". Meanwhile the West Bengal government said the intent globally to use coloured water is to identify a person post dispersal for further necessary action as per the law if required.

Surya, the BJP MP from Bengaluru South, also sought an inquiry by the Union Home Ministry into the blue chemical- laced water that was sprayed on party activists during the rally and termed it a "gross violation of human rights".
"Today was a black day... The TMC government murdered rule of law in the state. The way our cadres and leaders were attacked and beaten up mercilessly by the police is unprecedented. Don't we have the right to conduct a peaceful rally in the state?" he said during a press meet here.
The parliamentarian further asserted that he would continue to visit Bengal and conduct democratic protests to ensure that the TMC gets defeated in the next assembly polls.
Parts of Kolkata and adjoining Howrah resembled a battle zone on Thursday as BJP workers and supporters clashed with police, hurling stones and blocking roads with burning tyres, to protest a string of killings of saffron party workers.

Surya's comments, calling the metropolitan 'an epicentre of terror activities', didn't go well with the opposition Congress and a section of social media users. While the Congress chief for Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, called for his sacking as the BJP's youth wing chief, many social media users pointed out to the irony that the southern state was ruled by Surya's party. Chief Minister BS Yediyurrapa, however, came to the rescue of the young Parliamentarian, saying Surya who has also created flutter in the past with his controversial remarks, must have pointed to the rise of terror activities in the metropolitan.
