Jemimah&rsquo;s arduous knock for only her third century and first in a World Cup was built along with a robust 167-run stand for the third wicket with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89 from 88 balls, 10x4s, 2x6s), which helped India to end the reigning champions Australia's 15-match unbeaten run in the competition across two editions.
Chasing a mammoth 339, Jemimah anchored the spirited response with an incredible 127 not out from 134 balls including 14 fours, as India scored 341/5 in 48.3 overs to win with five wickets and nine balls to spare. It was the highest ever chase in Women's ODIs.
Having lost knock-out games from winning positions several times in the past, India finally found a way to get over the line on this occasion. No wonder tears of sheer joy rolled down the eyes of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Rodrigues who did have all those heartbreaks at the back of their mind during the run chase.
A first time winner of the tournament is assured with India meeting South Africa at the same venue on Sunday.
In the middle as early as in the second over, Jemimah built her innings with utmost resolve of keeping it simple, finding boundaries regularly and not taking any risks.
Towards the end, an exhausted Jemimah kept slumping on her haunches to preserve whatever little energy she was left with, and thrived on cheers of a packed house here at the DY Patil Stadium to take the hosts one step closer to that elusive title.
Skipper Harmanpreet would have never imagined walking out to bat in front of a shellshocked home crowd which was reeling in silence when the team&rsquo;s best batter Smriti Mandhana fell in the 10th over.
At 59 for two inside the powerplay with their best batter (Mandhana) back in the hut, that was that moment where this team had botched up from winning positions not too long ago.
But eventually, they did not. Harmanpreet (89 off 88) and Jemimah batted with purpose and at no stage of their third-wicket association did they look under stress with the asking rate.
A lightening quick outfield aided to their benefit and once well-settled, Harmanpreet launched one over cover off McGrath and another off Gardner. The dew also arrived late in the evening, making batting easier.
A pivotal moment arrived in the 33rd over when Jemimah was gifted a lifeline by the Australian captain Alyssa Healy when she was on 82, spilling a sitter when the batter got a leading edge off King while trying to sweep. Later on, she was given another lifeline on 106.
Shafali&rsquo;s first ODI outing after a year&rsquo;s gap lasted only five balls in which she managed two boundaries before being pinned off a nip-backer from Kim Garth in front of the wickets.
Australia did well to keep India&rsquo;s best batter Smriti Mandhana (24) on a tight leash at the start but the vice-captain replied with a six down the ground and two fours.
However, it was a dismaying end to her innings when Mandhana was caught behind on a delivery sprayed down the leg from Garth, with a faint spike on DRS appeal confirming Australia&rsquo;s conviction.
Earlier, Phoebe Litchfield&rsquo;s scintillating 119 and half-centuries from venerable Ellyse Perry (77) and Ashleigh Gardner (63) helped Australia set a 339-run target against India who were sloppy in the field.
If not for a tidy third spell of 3-0-9-2 in which Shree Charani (2/49) dismissed Beth Mooney (24) and an in-form Annabel Sutherland (3), Australia might have finished with far more than they managed.
Australia were bowled out for 338 with one ball left in their innings.
Litchfield&rsquo;s third ODI ton which came off a mere 77 balls, set the platform for Australia to launch themselves to a huge total.
The 22-year-old came into this knockout game with only a fifty in her account so far in the competition, but batted as if she was always in a purple patch.
Litchfield's high quality knock included 17 fours and three sixes. Her lofted hits over the infield in the cover region were as spectacular as the two sixes she hit down the ground, one of which was hit on the second ball of the 27th over off Deepti Sharma.
Litchfield put on 155 for the second wicket before missing a lap shot off Amanjot with Perry, who made a valuable 77 off 88 balls (6x4s, 2x6s).

The runs flowed, and so did the emotions. Jemimah Rogrigues didn't celebrate her hundred. There was no fist pump, no roar.
The smile and tears of joy came only after the winning hit, in a record-breaking chase that sent India storming into their second Women&rsquo;s World Cup final.
Rodrigues stood still for a moment, her eyes glistening under the floodlights. This was more than just a match-winning hundred &mdash; it was a moment of deliverance.
The emotions, unknown anxiety had probably pent up inside her for the longest time and the devout Christian that she is, it was only faith in Jesus Christ that saw Jemimah play one of the greatest innings played in the history of a knock-out World Cup game.
"Towards the end, I was just quoting a scripture from the Bible - to just stand still and that God will fight for me," an emotionally drained out Jemimah said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Panned a lot for not living up to the lofty expectations from her, the Mumbai girl's 127 in a world record chase would be remembered till time immemorial.
"I have almost cried every day through this tour. Not doing well mentally, going through anxiety. I knew I had to show up, and God took care of everything. Initially, I was just playing and I keep talking to myself," a teary-eyed Jemimah was hardly able to express her emotions.
Coming from a family where faith holds supreme, it wasn't surprising that Jemimah turned to the Almighty to take her through.
"I just stood there and he fought for me. A lot inside me was left, but was trying to stay calm. I want to thank Jesus, could not do this on my own."
As she threw a flying kiss towards her family sitting in the VIP stands, she thanked his dad and coach Ivan, who has been her guiding force.
"I want to thank my mom, dad and coach and every single person who believed in me. It was really hard this last month, it feels like a dream and it still has not sunk in."
It was an innings which had taken a toll on her emotionally as much as it sapped her physically.
"Towards the end, I was trying to push myself but was not able to. Deepti spoke to me every ball and kept encouraging me. Richa came and lifted me up.
"When I cannot carry on, my teammates can encourage me. Cannot take credit for anything, I did not do anything (on my own). Each and every member of the crowd who chanted, cheered and believed, and for every run they were cheering, that pumped me up."
In fact, Jemimah didn't even celebrate her hundred and only let it rip once the match was over.
"Today was not about my fifty or my hundred, about making India win. Everything that happened so far, was a setup for this. Last year, I was dropped from this World Cup. I was in good form. But things kept happening back-to-back, and could not control anything," she added.
She also didn't know five minutes prior to walking out that she would be batting at No. 3 on the day which will probably change the course of her career forever.
"I was taking a shower and just told them to let me know. Five minutes before entering in, I was told I was batting at three. When Harry di came, it was all about one good partnership."

The one-dayers have generated a buzz as it is Rohit and Kohli's first international outing after India's Champions Trophy triumph in March earlier this year. The future of the two stalwarts has become a subject of intense speculation especially after Gill's elevation to ODI captaincy.
Both of them have already retired from Tests and T20 Internationals but are believed to be keen on continuing at least till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Gill, who also leads the Test side, has been supportive of the idea in his media interactions since taking over the ODI reins.
"The experience that both of them have and the matches that they have won for India, there are very few players who have won so many matches for India...players who have such skills and qualities with this experience are very few," Gill said.
"There are very few players in the world who have so much skill, quality and experience. So, in that sense, yes," he had stated about the duo's 2027 prospects during a recent Test series win over the West Indies at home.&nbsp;

"When it comes to fast bowlers, they are always aggressive," Salman said.
The captains' press conference and the trophy unveiling ceremony was followed by a question and answer session. The emcee requested the media to ask only apolitical questions.
In fact, Suryakumar and Salman weren't even seated together as Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan took the place between them.
The Indian skipper was also asked if he would like to see a change in his team's approach and philosophy.
"Why are you needling me?" he cheekily retorted.
"When you play a format you need to know how good is your preparation. Why mend something that isn't broken? If something has given us results why would we need to change that aspect separately?" he said.
There was the inevitable question about who among Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma will make the cut in the playing XI on Wednesday.
Like all other skippers, Suryakumar also kept cards close to his chest but did not let go of his trademark cheeky humour while responding to the query on Samson as the scribe who threw the question at him also hailed from the keeper-batter's native state Kerala.
"I will message you the whole team sir," he laughed and then in a slightly serious tone added: "We are taking good care of him. Don't worry, we will take the right decision tomorrow." When quizzed on the pressure of being title favourites, he admitted that there is pressure of coming good.
"Who said that? (favourites) I haven't heard it. But you have played in this format and you know how your preparations are. If your preparations are good, then you will be very confident when you take the field. We are playing T20 as a team after a long time." For Salman, the challenge is to prove that the team has moved beyond Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan -- the two senior players who were dropped.
"We are playing very good cricket. I think for almost four months, we have won three series out of four. So we are doing very well as a team and at the same time, we are very excited.
"A lot of the boys will play Asia Cup for the first time but they are ready for the challenge," he added.

The Indian spinners, led by Kuldeep Yadav, dictated the terms of the match, and India won the trophy without losing a match, reflecting their dominance in the tournament they won back in 2002 and 2013.&nbsp;
No other team has won the event thrice.
Rohit Sharma&rsquo;s performance was not a one-man show, as the spinners set it up nicely by restricting the Kiwis to a gettable 251 for seven. Later Shreyas Iyer (48) and KL Rahul (34 not out) soaked in pressure, ensuring that the team stays unbeaten. Rohit&rsquo;s ebullient 83-ball 76 had already given them the cushion to overhaul the target in 49 overs.
KL Rahul with his 34 not out led the side past the finish line after India lost well-settled batters. Pacer Nathan Smith, who replaced injured Matt Henry in the line-up, felt the heat as Rohit hammered him for two sixes and as many fours in the beginning of the chase.
Shubman Gill (31), who helped Rohit raise 105 runs for the opening wicket, was more subdued and the lone spark in his innings was a maximum off spinner Rachin Ravindra. A stunning catch by Glenn Phillips off left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner ended his stay, and opened a creek for the Kiwis.&nbsp;
Virat Kohli came to the middle accompanied by loud cheers but his stay lasted just two balls, as an effort to turn Michael Bracewell off his pads saw the master batter getting trapped plumb in front.
Rohit had decided to knuckle down after racing to 49 in the Power Play. In the next 16 overs, he added only 27 runs more to his score, as he tried to play a rather forgotten role of innings building.
His belief in his own defense also seemed to have come back as he smothered Santner and Bracewell quite effectively.
India&rsquo;s spinners can rightfully claim a good chunk of credit for this victory. Kuldeep (2/40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/45) were excellent alongside Axar and Ravindra Jadeja as the quartet conceded only 144 runs in the 38 overs bowled between them.
However, the start made by New Zealand did not justify the total that they eventually managed. They raced to 69 for 1 in 10 overs despite losing Will Young to Chakravarthy, who came in the sixth over.
The four-pronged Indian spin attack assumed control of the proceedings from that point, and New Zealand could not find a boundary for the next 81 balls.
Kuldeep and Varun found an appreciable turn off the deck, while Axar and Jadeja relied more on quickness to cramp Kiwis batters for space.
Chakravarthy mixed his endless ensemble of tricks and accounted for Phillips to end a promising 57-run alliance for the fifth wicket. Mitchell, who cleverly manipulated the field for singles and twos, brought up his fifty in 91 balls.
Towards the end, Bracewell&rsquo;s enterprise meant that Kiwis would get 50 runs in the last five overs, but the effort was way too less on the night that firmly belonged to India.&nbsp;

Out-of-form veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will continue to form the batting core of India's ODI squad but there are at least three senior players whose future in the 50-over format could be debated when the selectors gather this weekend to pick the squad for the Champions Trophy.
KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja's presence in the side is not a surety for the event starting February 19 even though they were a part of last year's World Cup.
Since the final, India have played six ODIs and while Shami and Jadeja were rested, Rahul was included for both the away bilateral engagements against South Africa and Sri Lanka.
Against Sri Lanka, however, he was dropped in the middle of the series after failing to get going in the middle overs. The world is also yet to forget how his sedate half century after using up 100-plus deliveries became a prime reason for India's loss on November 19, 2023 against Australia.
It is understood that Yashasvi Jaiswal has a very bright chance of making it to the ODI squad. His inclusion would ensure a left-handed batter in the top four.
But if Rishabh Pant is the first-choice wicketkeeper, then would there be any point in having Rahul as the back-up? And if Rahul is not keeping, his place as a batter is not guaranteed.
Among his closest competitors, Ishan Kishan hasn't scored enough runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy while Sanju Samson hasn't been picked by Kerala after he missed the initial games.
If coach Gautam Gambhir still has his say in selection matters like he did till the disastrous Australia tour, then Samson, one of his personal favourites, will surely make the cut.

Jadeja's white ball batting hasn't been as good as it used to be and those who are tracking the selection committee feel that Axar Patel is being seen as way more effective in the ODIs at the moment.
Washington Sundar is expected to make it as an off-spinner but Kuldeep Yadav's fitness is something that selectors would be fretting on. Kuldeep is near full fitness but hasn't played a Vijay Hazare Trophy game.
In case Kuldeep fails to make it, one among Ravi Bishnoi or Varun Chakravarthy is expected to be picked.
