In another addition to the Narendra Modi government's list of diplomatic achievements, the royal family of Denmark is on its first visit to India in two decades.
Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik Andr&eacute; Henrik Christian and Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth arrived in Delhi on 26 February 2023 for a 4-day visit. The royals visited the Taj Mahal in Agra on the first day of their trip. They will also tour Chennai before departing on 2 March.
The royal couple is learnt to be accompanied by Foreign Minister Lars L&oslash;kke Rasmussen, Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke and Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard.
"During the visit, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince will meet the Vice President and will address the opening session of the India-Denmark: Partners for Green and Sustainable Progress, organised by CII. He will also call-on President Droupadi Murmu," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said earlier.
The Crown Prince had earlier visited India in 2003. Before this, Queen Margrethe II had visited India in 1963 as Crown Princess.

The development has emerged amid a surge in coronavirus cases in China, US, South Korea and several other countries in the wake of a new strain.

Custodians of the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort have reportedly been served notices by the Uttar Pradesh government for pending payment of property tax and water bills.

The news report quoted ASI officials as saying that this is the first time such notices have been served as property taxes are not applicable on monuments. Also, there are no water connections for commercial use, and the lawns are maintained for public service, the ASI said.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea seeking removal of alleged wrong historical facts related to the construction of the Taj Mahal from history books and find the age of the monument.
A bench of Justices M R Shah and C T Ravikumar asked the petitioner to approach the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and make a representation before it.
"The PILs are not meant for fishing enquiry. We are not here to reopen history.Let history continue.The writ petition is dismissed as withdrawn. The petitioner is granted liberty to make representation to the ASI. We have not expressed any merits on the same," the bench said.
The top court was hearing a plea filed by Surjit Singh Yadav seeking direction to the Centre to remove the alleged wrong historical facts related to the construction of the Taj Mahal from history books and textbooks.
The plea also sought directions to the ASI to carry out a probe into the age of the Taj Mahal.
The petitioner contended that his research shows that a magnificent mansion already existed at the site where the body of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's wife Mumtaz Mahal was placed in a dome-like structure.
"It is extremely strange why all the court chroniclers of Shah Jahan have not mentioned the name of the architect of this magnificent mausoleum. Therefore, this quite clearly indicates that the mansion of Raja Man Singh was not demolished but only modified and renovated to create the current look of the Taj Mahal. That is why there is no mention of any architect in the accounts of the court chroniclers of Shah Jahan," the plea submitted.
The 17th century monument is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti told Parliament on Monday that it has been informed by the Archaeological Survey of India that there is no threat to the stability of Taj Mahal's foundation.
Responding to a question in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Jal Shakti Bishweswar Tudu said the only dam/barrage project proposal on river Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh pertains to construction of a rubber dam, 1.5 km downstream of the monument in Agra.
In response to a written question if the "government is aware that for want of a dam/barrage on river Yamuna, there is a threat to the stability of the foundation of the iconic Taj Mahal", the ministry said, "Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has informed that there is no threat to the stability of the foundation of Taj Mahal. It is further informed by ASI that regular monitoring is done by ASI in this regard and that the monument is in a good state of conservation." Further, the ministry said the Uttar Pradesh government has informed the Centre that clearance from six departments and ministries would be required to carry out the project.
"Out of these, clearance has been obtained from Inland Waterways Authority of India, Central Water Commission, Archeological Survey of India, and Taj Trapezium Zone Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority," Tudu said.
However, the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), Lucknow, has not granted clearance against the application submitted in December 2019.
The National Mission on Clean Ganga too has not cleared the proposal sought by the Uttar Pradesh government in March, 2019.

Climate activist Licypriya Kangujam on Saturday lauded Agra authorities for clearing plastic waste from the banks of the Yamuna river behind the Taj Mahal.
The 10-year-old activist from Manipur also shared on Twitter photos from her visits to the river bank last month and on Saturday.
In the photo from her last month's visit, Kangujam is seen standing amidst plastic waste and holding a placard reading "Behind the beauty of Taj Mahal is plastic pollution". In the photo from her visit on Saturday, the young activist is seen flashing the victory sign with no garbage around.
Talking to PTI, Kangujam said, "When I first visited the Taj Mahal, I found plastic bottles and single-use plastic waste lying in the garden, fountains and its surroundings. When I visited the banks of the Yamuna river behind the Taj Mahal... I found plastic bottles and wrappers lying there. I was shocked to see that people had littered the most iconic monument of the world."
"I wanted to give a message to the people of the entire world that 'behind the beauty of Taj Mahal is plastic pollution'. I tweeted this message and got immense support from people all over the world. Authorities launched a cleanliness drive after my tweet," she said.
"On Saturday, I visited the banks of Yamuna behind the Taj Mahal and was so happy to see that the plastic waste that was lying there during my first visit about 10 days ago was almost entirely cleared due to the efforts of the local authorities.
"I appreciate the swift action," she added.
Kangujam underlined that this change should be permanent and not be short-lived.
After Kangujam's tweet in June about the waste lying at the banks of Yamuna, the Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) had fined the concerned sanitation company Rs 1 lakh for not keeping the premises clean.
A special cleanliness drive was launched on June 29 to make the Taj Mahal plastic-free. The drive will go on till July 3.

These probably served as a cool, recreational place for the visiting Mughal emperor, but the chamber does not receive natural light now. These underground galleries are common in Mughal architecture, as per Koch.
The BBC quoted another historian, Rana Safvi, as saying that the underground rooms were open to visitors until a flood in 1978. Water had entered the mausoleum, and some of the underground rooms were silted.
Some chambers even suffered cracks, according to Safvi. The rooms have been closed for public ever since, but are opened for restoration work, according to the report.

Hindu activists on Wednesday staged a protest outside the ASI office here after an Ayodhya seer claimed in a video that he was denied entry to the monument because he wore saffron cloths and carried a ‘Brhamdand’.
The seer’s claim in the viral video triggering the protest prompted the Archaeological Survey of India officials to deny the allegation, saying the seer was denied entry not because he was wearing saffron robes.
Referred to the seer’s ‘Brhamdand’, a stick covered with saffron clothes and having a religious significance, the Agra ASI circle official Raj Kumar Patel told PTI that the security personnel denied ‘Swami ji’ the entry because he refused to deposit “an object” in a locker near the entry gate.

Denying the seer’s allegations, Patel said "We have the video footage of the Swamiji in which he is seen at the security point of the western gate of Taj Mahal." "Swamiji was not stopped from entering the Taj Mahal premises due to his saffron attire. The ASI and security staffers had asked him to keep an object he was carrying with him at the locker room or outside the Taj Mahal premises," he added.
"We have to follow security procedures and for that everything is checked properly," he said, reiterating that had Swamiji explained the religious significance of ‘Brahmdand’ he would have been allowed entry.
The seer in the video said he will return on May 5 and if denied entry, he will not tolerate insult to saffron.

All women have access to free entry in all ASI&nbsp;monuments across the country on the 8th of March.&nbsp;
