The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested real estate company Supertech's chairman and owner R K Arora on money-laundering charges, official sources said.
Arora was taken into custody under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following a third round of his questioning at the federal agency's office here, they said.
He is expected to be produced before a special PMLA court here on Wednesday, where the ED will seek his further remand.
The money-laundering case against the Supertech group, its directors and promoters stems from a clutch of FIRs registered by the police departments in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
In April, the ED had attached assets worth more than Rs 40 crore of the real estate group and its directors.
In a statement in April, the ED said the company and its directors indulged in a "criminal conspiracy" to cheat people by collecting funds from prospective buyers as advance against booked flats in their real estate projects and failed to adhere to the agreed obligation of providing the possession of the flats on time and thus, according to the FIRs, the firm "defrauded" the general public.
The agency's probe revealed that the funds were collected by Supertech Limited and group companies from homebuyers. The company also took project-specific term loans from banks and financial institutions for the purpose of construction of projects or flats, the ED said.
However, these funds were "misappropriated and diverted" for buying land in the name of other group companies that was again pledged as collateral to borrow funds from banks and financial institutions, it added.
The Supertech group also "defaulted" on its payments to the banks and financial institutions and currently, around Rs 1,500 crore of such loans have become non-performing asset (NPA), the agency had said.

The Supreme Court has allowed real estate major Supertech's resolution plan to infuse funds and deliver 20,000 delayed flats in 2 years. The apex court refused to interfere in the June 2022 NCLAT order that allowed the company's promoters to raise funds on a priority funding basis to complete the projects. It also upheld NCLAT's decision to not form a Committee of&nbsp; Creditors (COC) and not to proceed with the Insolvency Bankruptcy Code bidding process.
Supertech is set to raise ₹ 1,600 crore from OakTree financial to complete the stuck projects. Earlier, Supertech had submitted a fund raise plan to the NCLAT. However, it failed to raise funds as some lenders moved the Supreme Court. Supertech is now free to approach the NCLAT again after the court's order.
NCLAT earlier had ordered the COC to take over Supertech. However, it limited the committee to just one project and that the other projects to be constructed under insolvency resolution professional. Supertech had defaulted on payment of ₹ 431 crore to a consortium of banks inviting proceedings against it.

The demolition of the structures leaves behind an estimated 35,000 cubic metres or 55,000 tonnes to 80,000 tonnes of debris which chiefly includes concrete rubble, steel and iron bars and would take another three months to be properly disposed of.
The Supreme Court had on August 31, 2021 ordered the demolition of the towers for violation of building norms in "collusion with district officials, holding that illegal construction has to be dealt with strictly to ensure compliance with the rule of law".
The New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA), also called the Noida Authority, had received a rap on its knuckles as the top court pointed out multiple incidents of collusion of its officials with Supertech Ltd in the Emerald Court project and violations of norms by the realty major in construction of the twin towers.
"The case has revealed a nefarious complicity of the planning authority in the violation by the developer of the provisions of law," the Supreme Court had observed.
The local Noida Authority, which had approved the building maps in the first place, oversaw the mega demolition exercise which had been in planning for almost a year now.
Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering was tasked with the job and it had hired South Africa's Jet Demolitions for its expertise. The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) was appointed by the Supreme Court as technical expert for the project.
The top court ordered that Supertech would bear the cost of the demolition as it noted that the construction of twin towers, which was not part of the original plan for Emerald Court, directly affected the quality of life of its residents.
The only other precedence of high-rise structures in India being demolished are four housing complexes in the Maradu municipality area of Kochi, Kerala, in January 2020 in compliance with orders of the Supreme Court, which had held the 18-20 storey buildings to be illegal as they had been built in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone norms.
Edifice and Jet Demolitions had collaborated for the Maradu complexes demolition, too. Jet Demolitions had individually successfully executed the implosion of the 108-metre-tall Bank of Lisbon building in Johannesburg, South Africa, in November 2019.

Over 5,000 people from Emerald Court and ATS Village societies were evacuated before the demolition of the twin towers.  Apex (32 storeys) and Ceyane (29 storeys) were gone in 12 seconds on Sunday. in the carefully choreographed and meticulously executed demolition, the biggest such exercise in the country so far.
People, who returned home, are relieved that their houses are safe.
 Aarti Koppula, Bluestone resident and RWA member, said that four towers in the Supertech society haven’t received gas supply yet.
 "We returned at 9 pm and there is no damage to our houses. There is just a foul smell in the basement of our buildings most likely of the explosives.  "They have been informed that the gas supply will be restored by tomorrow. Rest is alright. There is no damage at all," Koppula told PTI.
There was the deployment of police to ensure safe passage to people. Police have barricaded the area around the collapsed building.  
Meanwhile, even after several hours of the explosion, people gathered near the demolished towers and were seen taking selfies with the rubbles.

The 100-metre tall twin towers built by Supertech in the Noida will be demolished today after over a decade long court battle by the residents of the real estate company's Emerald Court project. 
The Emerald Court, approved by Noida authorities in 2005, was supposed to be a residential complex with 14 towers of 9 floors each buy by 2012 it had become a project of 15 buildings with11 storey each and two towers rising to 40 floors above ground.
Residents of Emerald Court moved the Allahabad High Court in 2012 claiming that the construction of the 2 towers violated various laws. 
First, the area where the two towers, Apex and Ceyane, were coming up was sold to them as a green space but now the construction of the 40-storeyed building was blocking their view, fresh air and sunlight. 
They also claimed that Supertech had not maintained the minimum distance required between two buildings and that the plans for the residential complex were changed without their approval which is required as per law. 
Allahabad High Court in 2014 ordered demolition of the towers but it Supertech approached the Supreme Court. The top court then ordered status and finally in August 2021 ordered the demolition. 
Over 3,700 kg explosives will be used to bring down the structures in pursuance of a Supreme Court order that found their construction within the Emerald Court society premises in violation of norms.
Around 5,000 residents of Emerald Court and adjoining ATS Village societies in Sector 93A have to vacate their premises by 7 am on Sunday while also removing nearly 3,000 vehicles and taking away 150-200 pets, including cats and dogs, with them for the day.
       The closest buildings next to twin towers are Aster 2 and Aster 3 of Emerald Court society which are just nine metres away. The demolition would be done in a manner so as not to cause any structural damages to other buildings, the officials said.
       While nearby Noida-Greater Noida Expressway will be closed from 2.15 pm to 2.45 pm, the city will remain no fly zone for drones. The air space in one nautical mile radius above the blast will also remain briefly unavailable for flights during demolition time, according to Noida Authority.           All work related to placement of explosives and connecting them is already complete. The only work remaining is interconnecting the twin towers and placing a 100-metre-long cable from the structures to the exploder, from where the button would be pressed on Sunday, project officials said.
"Once last minute checks are done and all teams get down from the buildings, the two buildings Apex and Ceyane, have to be inter-connected. After that a 100-metre-long cable would be run from the towers to the exploder to demolish the buildings," Edifice Engineering's project manager Mayur Mehta said.
"Once we get the clearance from the police department that the exclusion zone is 100 per cent clear, then at 2.30 pm on Sunday we will press the button," he said.
       Mehta said only six people, including three foreign experts, Indian blaster Chetan Dutta, a police officer and himself, will remain within the exclusion zone to push the button for the blast.  Asked how confident he was regarding safe demolition, Mehta told PTI: "100 per cent. I don't have any other word. We are 100 per cent confident." Mehta's Mumbai-based Edifice Engineering has been tasked with safely pulling down the structures. Edifice has roped in South African experts Jet Demolitions for the project. The whole exercise is being overseen by the local Noida Authority.
Mehta has assured residents of adjoining societies that there will be no damage to their homes except for chances of "cosmetic cracks" on outer paint and plasters of some structures.
On how many options they had for demolition of the twin towers, Mehta said there are basically three techniques to safely raze down any structure of such a scale - diamond cutter, use of robots and implosion.
"The technique is chosen on the basis of three parameters - cost, time and safety," he said.
He said the 'diamond cutter' would have taken over two years of time to completely demolish the twin towers safely, and its cost would have been five times of the implosion method.
On using robotics, he said this technique would have caused a lot of noise over a period of 1.5 years to two years and disturbed the residents of nearby Emerald Court and ATS Village.
"Its cost would have been less than the diamond cutter technique but more than implosion," he said.
The Edifice boss said since the Supreme Court had also ordered that this project should be done in the shortest possible time and with no disturbance to neighbouring residents, the implosion technique became the choice for the project.
Diversions would be placed on roads leading to the twin towers in Noida Sector 93A from Sunday morning while the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, barely 200 metres from the demolition site, would be closed for vehicular movement from 2 pm to 3 pm, DCP (Traffic) Ganesh Saha said.
Google maps will have updated feeds for diversions and real-time traffic situations on Sunday, Saha said, adding that arrangements have been made for movement of emergency vehicles.
DCP (Central Noida) Rajesh S said around 400 police personnel would be deployed for law and order duty, while PAC and NDRF personnel would also be on the ground for any contingencies.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Sunil Sharma said the health department would station six ambulances at the site equipped with officials and medicines. Beds have been reserved at the district hospital and private medical facilities Yatharth, Felix and Jaypee too.
The demolition of the twin towers will be carried out through the waterfall implosion technique which would bring them down within a few seconds literally like a house of cards. The eye-popping event would leave behind a whopping 55,000 tonnes of debris, even as some estimates put the figure at 80,000 tonnes. The debris would take an estimated three months to be cleared and disposed of.
Maheshwari said all arrangements are being made to clear the dust from the area in the aftermath of the demolition.
     Besides sanitation workers, mechanical sweeping machines, anti-smog guns, water sprinklers would be placed at the site, she said.
Residents of Emerald Court and ATS Village that PTI spoke to said they were anxious over the demolition, even as they expressed relief over the illegal structures finally set to go away after legal battles of more than a decade.

When the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of Supertech's twin towers in Noida in August last year, Chetan Dutta, a 49-year-old blaster, "prayed" for the opportunity to press the button to bring down the nearly 100-metre-tall structures.
And, a year later on August 28, Dutta will press the button to commence the demolition. "It's like a dream come true," says Dutta, who hails from Hisar in Haryana.
He was approached by Edifice Engineering, which has been tasked with demolishing the towers, to act as a blaster.
"When the Supreme Court's decision came, someone forwarded a message (about it) on WhatsApp and I prayed to God that I should be given an opportunity to demolish the building. I did not expect to be chosen though...months later, in July, Edifice approached me and my firm for the loading of explosives," said Dutta, who runs a firm that is involved in building demolition.
"In the last 10 days, we have very carefully loaded the explosives. We are ready now...," he added.
Taller than Delhi's iconic Qutub Minar, the nearly 100-metre-high Apex and Ceyane towers in Noida's Sector 93A are set to be demolished at 2.30 pm on August 28.

It is the first residential tower for which Dutta is acting as a blaster. "I have been in this line of business since 2002. I have conducted the demolition of thermal power plants, mines and other structures. But this is the first residential building for which I am acting as a blaster," he said.
Dutta said he is confident that the demolition will be carried out in a successful and safe manner. "We have done plenty of preparations to carry out the operation. All minute details and problems have been taken care of." More than 3,700 kg of explosives are being used to implode the twin towers. The major task is to ensure the safety of people living in the vicinity and that no nearby buildings suffer damage.
"So much research was carried out. Following the loading of explosives, checks were done thrice. Flying rubble is a major concern...and to prevent that, the blasting area has been covered with four layers of iron mesh and two layers of blanket. No rubble will fly past, but dust may," he said.
Dutta explains that he will be stationed about 50-70 metres away from the building while pressing the button.
"We'll be almost 50-70m away from the building, there will be no danger and we are very much sure that the building will collapse in a proper way...," he added.
Explaining the demolition process, Dutta said: "It's a simple process. We generate current from the dynamo and then press the button which will ignite the detonators in all shock tubes within 9 seconds." The Apex and Ceyane towers in Noida's Sector 93A will be demolished in pursuance of a Supreme Court order that found that structures had come up in Supertech's Emerald Court society premises in violation of norms.
Over 5,000 residents of Emerald Court and ATS Village -- the two closest societies to the twin towers -- will be evacuated by 7 am on Sunday. Around 2,700 vehicles belonging to them will also be removed from the premises and the residents will take away around 150-200 of their pets, too.
An exclusion zone will be created at a radius of up to 500 metres around the twin towers where no human or animal will be allowed, except for a team of Indian and foreign blasters engaged in the demolition of the nearly 100-metre-tall structures.
Earlier, demolition firm Edifice Engineering, experts of Central Building Research Institute and the Noida Authority officials had expressed confidence that the structures will be demolished safely and said they were satisfied with the arrangements made for controlling debris splinters.

And, a year later on August 28, Dutta will press the button to commence the demolition. "It's like a dream come true," says Dutta, who hails from Hisar in Haryana.
He was approached by Edifice Engineering, which has been tasked with demolishing the towers, to act as a blaster.
"When the Supreme Court's decision came, someone forwarded a message (about it) on WhatsApp and I prayed to God that I should be given an opportunity to demolish the building. I did not expect to be chosen though...months later, in July, Edifice approached me and my firm for the loading of explosives," said Dutta, who runs a firm that is involved in building demolition.
"In the last 10 days, we have very carefully loaded the explosives. We are ready now...," he added.
Taller than Delhi's iconic Qutub Minar, the nearly 100-metre-high Apex and Ceyane towers in Noida's Sector 93A are set to be demolished at 2.30 pm on August 28.

The illegal buildings will be demolished using 3,700 kgs of explosives that have been filled in more than 9,000 holes drilled in the columns and shears of the skeletal structures.
According to the Times of India, the ten-member team tasked with carrying out the implosion climb 32 floors every day, since elevators have been disconnected, to ensure that the chargers in the explosives are connected and that the circuit remain unbroken. 
The remote-controlled implosion will be carried out at 2.30 pm on Sunday causing the buildings collapse on themselves ‘like a waterfall’. 
According to News 18, the demolition exercise will cost around Rs 20 crore with Supertech paying Rs 5 crore and rest will be realised by the selling the debris. 
Noida officials have said that demolition is expected to leave behind approximately 35,000 cubic metres of rubble which would translate to 80,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste.
Most of the debris will be used to level the ground and the rest will be sent to construction and demolition waste waste processing units for scientific disposal and it would take up to three months for the process to complete.

After Supreme Court ordered the demolition of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/inside-supertech-s-noida-towers-that-face-demolition-1630410457129" target="_blank">Supertech&nbsp;twin tower</a> in Nodia,&nbsp;Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for an inquiry and criminal cases&nbsp;against guilty officers.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had ordered the demolition of the twin towers within 3 months that had come up in violation of building laws in Noida Sector 93. The SC also directed the real estate developer Supertech to refund the money of flat owners within two months.

The <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/declare-cow-national-animal-its-protection-a-fundamental-right-allahabad-hc-1630552909556" target="_blank">Allahabad High Court</a> had also in 2014, passed the judgement and directed ordering the demolition of two 40-storey twin towers in Noida.&nbsp;

Ceyane&nbsp;Towers has studio apartments with one balcony, area of which ranges between 475 Sq. Ft. to 595 Sq. Ft. The price of these apartments starts from&nbsp;₹ 28,88,000, as per the builder's website.&nbsp;
Supertech's&nbsp;website shows that both towers come with similar facilities of swimming pool, gymnasium, play area, clubhouse among others.&nbsp;

SC orders demolition of 2 Supertech towers with 1,000 flats in Noida

The real estate company to reimburse all flat owners along with 12% interest

In a big blow to builder Supertech, Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the demolition of twin 40-storey towers in the Emerald Court project in Noida for violation of building norms.
A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud pronounced the verdict stating that there was collusion between <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/steep-price-hike-in-cng-and-png-price-in-delhi-noida-greater-noida-and-ghaziabad-1630208713864" target="_blank">NOIDA </a>officers and the builders in facilitating the construction.&nbsp;
"The record of the case is replete with instances which shows collusion of Noida authority with the builder. Collusion is writ large in the case," Justice Chandrachud mentioned, stating that&nbsp;"illegal construction has to be dealt with strictly."
The apex court has asked that the work of demolition should be carried out by the Supertech within a period of three months at its own cost. Keeping the interest of consumers in mind the verdict has also directed the real estate company to reimburse all flat owners along with 12% interest.
The apex court pointed out, "the protection of environment and well-being of the people who occupy this has to be balanced with the need of increasing demand for urban housing."
The two towers have 857 apartments in total. Of those, about 600 flats were sold.
Supertech launched the Emerald Court in 2006 in&nbsp;Noida&nbsp;Sector 93A.
In 2012, the RWA moved court saying that Supertech&nbsp;flouted the building safety norms and distance criteria, while constructing the twin towers by encroaching upon the garden area and thereby blocking the views, air and sunshine of residents.

Allahabad HC had in April, 2014, ordered the demolition of the twin tower complex&nbsp;in Noida while directing Supertech to refund money to homebuyers with 14% interest in three months.
Supertech&nbsp;moved <a href="https://www.editorji.com/story/in-a-first-nine-new-supreme-court-judges-take-oath-in-one-go-1630395041423" target="_blank">Supreme Court</a> saying it had approvals from the Noida&nbsp;Authority.
In July, the Supreme Court had ordered an inspection into the&nbsp;Supertech twin towers that were ordered to be demolished by the Allahabad high court for violation of norms.
