Watch: Blast at building in Noida as part of test before Supertech twin towers' final demolition

An explosion was conducted at the illegal Supertech towers in Uttar Pradesh's Noida on April 10. It was a test before the final demolition of the buildings, expected on May 22.

The test blast was reportedly carried out by Edifice Engineering and Jet Demolitions. It was aimed at ascertaining the amount of explosives needed to bring down the skyscrapers.

The Supreme Court had ordered the demolition of the Supertech Apex and Ceyane towers in August 2021, as they had been built in violation of norms.

Up to 4 tonnes of explosives might reportedly be used in the final demolition. The razing of the 100 m-tall towers would take just 9 seconds, as per reports.

People in the vicinity of the towers would be evacuated during the demolition. The company carrying out the demolition would secure insurance for properties in the area in case of collateral damage.
