On July 2, at 2314 Universal Time, an eruption from the giant sunspot AR3354 sent out an X1-class solar flare, an impressive display of our sun's turbulent activity.
This significant solar storm event was diligently captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).
<h3>Radiation Impact: Shortwave Radio Blackout</h3>
As this X1 solar flare radiation hit Earth, it ionised the uppermost layers of our atmosphere. The result was a profound shortwave radio blackout, stretching across the western USA and into the Pacific Ocean.
This blackout created unexpected challenges for mariners and ham radio operators who may have experienced signal loss and other issues for over half an hour after the solar storm's initiation.
<h3>An Absence of CME: A Solar Storm Anomaly</h3>
Interestingly, despite the solar flare's power, this X-flare event did not trigger a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the sun's atmosphere.
This surprising lack of a CME was verified by the absence of any notable features in the images from the SOHO coronagraph, an instrument specifically designed to observe the solar corona.
<h3>A Unique Trigger: Plasma Plume Interaction with Sunspot AR3354</h3>
What sparked the X1 solar flare from the sunspot AR3354 was a rather unusual occurrence. According to a 304 Angstrom movie from the SDO, the eruption was instigated by a plasma plume curling over the sun's limb and interacting with the sunspot.
This magnetised gas, hot and charged, initiated the X1 solar flare when it landed on AR3354, illustrating the dynamic and somewhat unpredictable nature of solar storms.

The eruption of sunspot AR3354 and the resulting X1 solar flare stand as potent reminders of the solar system's powerful forces.

In a never-before-witnessed phenomenon, a significant amount of material broke off from the Sun's surface and created a swirl around its North Pole.
This was captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, and a video is now going viral. The development has left scientists baffled.

Weather forecaster Tamitha Skov, who shared the video online, called it a great opportunity to understand the Sun's atmospheric dynamics.
"Talk about Polar Vortex! Material from a northern prominence just broke away from the main filament &amp; is now circulating in a massive polar vortex around the north pole of our Star. Implications for understanding the Sun's atmospheric dynamics above 55 degrees here cannot be overstated!" Dr Skov said in a February 3 tweet.

According to the data published in the Gaia spacecraft, the Sun is going through its middle age. It is estimated that the age of the Sun is around 4.57 billion years.&nbsp;
The European Space Agency (ESA)'s space observatory has shared the information that could help determine when the sun will die.&nbsp;
According to the ESA data, the Sun is currently fusing hydrogen into helium and is rather stable now. However, the giant star will die too.&nbsp;
Scientists analyzed the data provided by the Gaia Spacecraft and they concluded that the Sun will reach its maximum temperature at around 8 billion years of age. After this, it will cool down and increase in size and thus will become a giant red star. Scientists said that at the age of 1011 billion years, the Sun will die.&nbsp;
ESA further said that the Sun will die when it will become a dim white dwarf.&nbsp;

NASA recently shared the picture of the Sun on social media and wrote, "Say cheese! Today, NASA&rsquo;s Solar Dynamics Observatory caught the Sun "smiling." Seen in ultraviolet light, these dark patches on the Sun are known as coronal holes and are regions where fast solar wind gushes out into space."
As soon as the picture was out, people were left amused after seeing the creepy yet cute smile of the Sun. Some commented that the picture looks like a pancake and some said it resembles the face of the Stay Puff marshmallow man from Ghostbusters.&nbsp;

Taking to social media, the space agency revealed that the &lsquo;ghoulish grin&rsquo; image was captured by Solar Dynamics Observatory.

On the occasion of Halloween, USA's space agency NASA posted an image of the Sun which appeared to resemble a spooky, grinning pumpkin - the symbol of the festival.
The image of the Sun resembling a jack-o-lantern, which is a lantern carved from a pumpkin - was captured in 2014.
Taking to social media, the space agency revealed that the &lsquo;ghoulish grin&rsquo; image had been captured by Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).
NASA said the blistering appearance was the result of active regions on the sun emitting more light and energy than the surrounding areas.
The blazing orange spots resemble two eyes and a grin, making the Sun look like a jack-o-lantern. The remaining part of the star is dark in appearance distinguished by an orange outline.
