Home Minister Amit Shah also remembered Netaji with reverence, stating, "On the birth anniversary of the great leader of the freedom struggle, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, I remember him and pay my tribute to him and wish all the countrymen a happy 'Parakram Diwas'. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a reflection of indomitable courage, determination and fearlessness. Netaji, who shook the foundations of the British Empire by forming the Azad Hind Fauj and fighting an armed struggle, became an ideal for freedom fighters. The Central Government declared January 23 as Parakram Diwas in 2021 to honor the birth anniversary of Netaji. This year, the 128th anniversary of Netaji is being marked with a grand three-day celebration from January 23 to January 25, 2025, at Barabati Fort in Cuttack, Odisha, Netaji's birthplace.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture, was inaugurated on January 23 by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The celebrations began with tributes and the hoisting of the National Flag at Netaji&rsquo;s birthplace, now a museum dedicated to his life.
The Barabati Fort festivities include a video address by the Prime Minister, along with a Book, Photo, and Archival Exhibition featuring rare documents, photographs, and letters connected to Netaji&rsquo;s life. The exhibition also includes an AR/VR experience chronicling his remarkable journey. A sculpture workshop, a painting competition, cultural performances, and screenings of films on Netaji&rsquo;s life are part of the event lineup, highlighting both his legacy and Odisha&rsquo;s cultural richness.
Since the designation of Parakram Diwas, several significant initiatives have been undertaken to honor Netaji. In 2021, the first Parakram Diwas was celebrated at Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. In 2022, a hologram statue of Netaji was unveiled at India Gate in New Delhi. In 2023, 21 unnamed islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago were named after Param Vir Chakra awardees. In 2024, the celebrations were held at Red Fort in Delhi, where the Prime Minister inaugurated the event at the site of the historic INA trials.
This year&rsquo;s event at Cuttack continues the tradition, offering a comprehensive tribute to the revolutionary leader whose legacy remains a source of inspiration for India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 'Parakram Diwas' celebrations at the Red Fort here on Tuesday evening to mark the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose.
The prime minister's office (PMO) said Modi will also launch 'Bharat Parv', which will be held between January 23 and January 31, to showcase the country's rich diversity with Republic Day tableaux and cultural exhibits featuring efforts of 26 ministries and departments, highlighting citizen centric initiatives, vocal for local, diverse tourist attractions, among others.
It will take place at the Ram Leela Maidan and the Madhav Das Park in front of the Red Fort, the PMO said.
The programme this year will be a multifaceted celebration seamlessly weaving together historical reflections and vibrant cultural expressions, it said.
The activities will delve into the profound legacy of Netaji, as Bose was known, and the Azad Hind Fauj, the PMO said.
The visitors will get an opportunity to engage with an immersive experience through exhibitions of archives, showcasing rare photographs and documents that chronicle the remarkable journey of Netaji and the Azad Hind Fauj, it said.
"In line with the vision of the prime minister to take steps to duly honour the contribution of luminaries who played a significant role in the freedom struggle, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was started being celebrated as Parakram Diwas in 2021," the PMO said.

Students of the government-run ITI have built a six-feet-high statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose using automobile scraps .

Six-foot-tall statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which was recently constructed out of discarded iron rods, nuts, and bolts. Berhampur ITI students made the statue. The statue was unveiled on Monday, the 126th anniversary of the nationalist leader's birth, as a tribute to him.
According to principal Rajat Kumar Panigrahi of the government-run ITI. &ldquo;Our institute has utilized waste and discarded materials to make different statues which dot the campus".&nbsp;
The same technique was used to create a statue of Mahatma Gandhi last year. It was awarded the First prize in the National Competition on Welded Marvels in 2022's "Trash to Treasure" category. which the Indian Institute of Welding organized (IIW).

Bose reportedly said that on an earlier occasion, PM Modi had said that Netaji Bose was the first Prime Minister of the Azad Hind government. He reportedly said that Jawaharlal Nehru should be considered first Prime Minister of divided, independent India.
 The latest instance of shining a limelight on Netaji comes after a tussle between the Bengal and Union governments. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had objected to exclusion of the state tableau which featured Bose from the Republic Day parade. The Centre had responded by saying that all tableaux can't be included in the parade and due procedure was followed to select those that made it to the final list. Subsequently, on January 23, which is Bose's birth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi unveiled a hologram of a statue of the freedom fighter at India Gate in Delhi.
