Singapore Open: PV Sindhu & HS Prannoy bow out in opening round

India had a disappointing start to Singapore Open as PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy both crashed out in round 1. However, Kidambi Srikanth advanced to round 2.

HS Prannoy, who recently won his first-ever BWF title at Malaysia Masters, couldn't emulate his performace at the Singapore Open as he crashed out of the opening round.
Prannoy lost to Japan's world no. 4 Kodai Naraoka 15-21, 19-21 in 56 minutes.
PV Sindhu, who is slowly recovering from an ankle injury she suffered in August last year, had a similar fate.
The defending champion fought hard against world number 1 Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, but eventually lost 21-18, 19-21, 17-21.

PV Sindhu continued her flawless run at the Singapore Open 2022 as she defeated China's Wang Zhiyi 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 in the summit clash on Sunday to win her maiden Singapore Open title.
Sindhu is the second Indian women's shuttler and third Indian overall to win the Singapore Open title. Moreover, it's her third title of the 2022 season after winning the Syed Modi International and Swiss Open BWF Super 300 titles.
The 2-time Olympic medallist won the opening game easily before her Chinese opponent bouonced back in the 2nd. But Sindhu staged a brilliant comeback in the final game to win it 21-15 and clinched her maiden Super 500 title of the year 2022.
