Chief Minister Fadnavis, along with his deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, campaigned extensively across Maharashtra, while cousins Uddhav and Raj Thackeray concentrated their efforts on Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where Uddhav held a rally.

The race for Mumbai&rsquo;s mayoral post took centre stage in the campaign, with the BJP claiming that a Sena (UBT) victory could lead to a Muslim mayor, a charge the Uddhav Thackeray-led party countered by assuring voters of a Marathi mayor.

Downplaying the coming together of the rival NCPs in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad as a "localised phenomenon", he said the BJP will react only if both factions decide to ally after the polls, which he felt was unlikely at the moment.

The police arrested the accused last week in connection with the crime that occurred two years ago, an official said.
He said the victim, Siddhivinayak alias Prakash Bidwakal, a resident of Chendwan in Kudal, went missing from his home in 2023, and based on a complaint lodged by his family, the police registered a case a few days ago.
A special investigation team (SIT) was formed on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Saurabh Kumar Agarwal, and a probe revealed that Bidwakal worked for Siddhesh Ashok Shirsat, a local office-bearer of the Shiv Sena.
The official said the police team found that Bidwakal had borrowed money from Siddhesh Shirsat and his friend Ganesh Narvekar.
According to the police, Siddhesh Shirsat and Narvekar kidnapped Bidwakal from his residence and confined him in a house belonging to another accused, Amol Shirsat, a resident of Pinguli.
The accused allegedly beat up the victim brutally and killed him, the official said, adding that the men also recorded a video of the assault.
The accused then destroyed the evidence by setting the body on fire in a crematorium, he said.
The official said Siddhesh Shirsat and his aides transported the remains in two gunny bags to Satarda village in a remote hilly area and threw them into the Terekhol River.
The accused, Siddhesh Shirsat (44), Ganesh Narvekar (33), Sarvesh Kerkar (29) and Amol Shirsat (32), were produced in court, and three of them were remanded in police custody.

The Mumbai police on Monday registered an FIR against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a show, officials said.

The police also registered a case against nearly 40 Shiv Sena workers for allegedly vandalising the Habitat Studio in Mumbai's Khar area, where Kamra's show with "gaddar" (traitor) jibe at Shinde was filmed, and a hotel where the studio is located, they said.
Kamra taunted Shinde using a modified version of a Hindi song from the film "Dil To Pagal Hai", eliciting laughter from the audience.
While leaders of the ruling Mahayuti termed Kamra a "contract comedian" and warned he would be forced to flee the country, the opposition dubbed the FIR against him as "mockery of law" and said police should specify words which can't be used to criticise the government.
Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel said the party workers will not allow Kamra to move on streets if he doesn't apologise to Shinde in two days.

Several Shiv Sena workers on Sunday night gathered outside Hotel Unicontinental, where the Habitat Studio is located. They allegedly ransacked the studio and the hotel premises, the police said.

After a video went viral showing Kamra allegedly using defamatory words against Shinde, MLA Patel lodged a police complaint.

The MIDC police registered an FIR against Kamra under BNS sections 353(1)(b) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 356(2) (defamation), an official said.

In the nearly 2-minute video, Kamra also mocked the ruling NCP and Shiv Sena, the MIDC police official said, adding a probe was on.

Another FIR was registered by the Khar police against 19 Shiv Sena functionaries, including Rahul Kanal, Kunal Sarmalkar and Akshay Panvelkar, and 15 to 20 unidentified persons for allegedly vandalising the studio and ransacking the hotel properties, an official said.
Kanal and Sarmalkar were brought to Khar police station and notices were served to them, he said.
The police have also detained several Shiv Sena workers involved in vandalism, the official said.

Panvelkar, Kanal, Sarmarkar and other Shiv Sainiks entered the hotel and studio and damaged them, Khar police sub-inspector Vijay Saed, on whose complaint the FIR was lodged, alleged in his statement.

They shouted slogans like "Shiv Sena Zindabad". When the police intervened, they allegedly pushed the on-duty personnel and also manhandled hotel staffers. They were later brought to the police station for further probe, Saed said.
State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, who visited the Khar police station, said the studio where the programme was shot was illegal.
"We will not tolerate mocking of our leader. Police and civic authorities should take action against them. I came to the police station to check on police action on our workers," the Shiv Sena leader added.
Sena MP Naresh Mhaske warned Kamra that he would no longer be allowed to roam freely in Maharashtra and would be chased by the party workers throughout the country.
"You will be forced to flee India," he said in a message.
Calling Kamra a "contract comedian", Mhaske said he should not have stepped on the "tail of a snake".
"Once the fangs are out, there will be dire consequences," he said.
The MP also alleged the comedian had accepted money from Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and was targeting Shinde.
He accused political opponents of hiring stand-up comedians like Kamra for publicity.
The Shiv Sena will not tolerate such insults and the party workers would ensure a strong response to Kamra's remarks, he added.
Sena MLA Patel said he would show "Kamra his level" and asked him to apologise.
"Our Shiv Sainiks will blacken his face wherever he is found," he said.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam said Kamra seems to be targeting Shinde on someone's instructions.
"As he has crossed the limits, we will blacken his face wherever we spot him," Kadam said.
On the other side, AAP Mumbai president Preeti Sharma Menon supported Kamra.
"We support @kunalkamra88 unequivocally. Shame @Dev_Fadnavis - Eknath shinde has just shown that you have zero powers as home minister. You couldn't keep peace in Nagpur and now you have brought vandalism to Mumbai!" she said.
State Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant said in the case where a simple non-cognizable offence can't stand, an FIR is registered and this is "mockery of law".
The aim is to scare political opponents, he claimed.
The ruling alliance leaders are openly issuing threats and making provocative statements, but the government doesn't move, he charged.
The police should publish a list of words which cannot be used when criticising the government, and it should also declare what is okay for the ruling alliance leaders, Sawant said.
State Congress chief spokesperson Atul Londhe said, "Why is there so much intolerance? We do not support such vandalism. If sentiments are getting easily hurt, then they could have filed a complaint against him at the police station."
"Kamra is a stand-up comedian and he made some commentary about the current political scenario in the state. If you are against it, then ban the entire stand-up comedy form. Why afraid of mere commentary? It is against freedom of speech," he said.

Mumbai police have recently detained Lalsingh Rajpurohit, a senior office-bearer of the Shiv Sena, on charges of extortion, according to official statements on Monday.
Rajpurohit, who holds the position of 'Vibhag Parmukh' (division head) for the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction in the suburban area of Kandivali, was taken into custody late Sunday night.
Following his arrest, Rajpurohit faced suspension from his role in the Shiv Sena's Shinde faction due to his alleged involvement in an extortion case filed in December of the previous year.
This information was confirmed by a police officer familiar with the situation.
The Kandivali police revealed that Rajpurohit, along with six associates, was accused of demanding money from a road construction contractor.
Moreover, just last Friday, another First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him.
This new case involves allegations that he forcibly occupied a shop belonging to a Marathi family, with police contemplating his arrest in this matter as well.
As news of these incidents surfaced, Eknath Shinde, a leader of the faction, ordered the expulsion of Rajpurohit from the party. Consequently, his suspension was confirmed.
Additionally, charges of defrauding an elderly couple and illegally seizing a shop have been filed against Rajpurohit at the Kandivali police station. Investigations into these allegations are currently ongoing, officials stated.

The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has adopted a strategy of announcing the names of candidates of critical seats after they have filed nomination papers in order to minimise rebellion.
The party, which fielded Raju Parve in place of sitting MP Krupal Tumane in Ramtek (SC) in Vidarbha, did not announce the former's name officially till he filed his nomination papers on March 27, which was the last date to do so. The seat goes to polls in the first phase on April 19.
The name of Parve, a Congress MLA who joined the Shiv Sena recently, figured in the first list of eight candidates announced by the ruling party on March 28.
"The party has adopted a strategy to declare the names only after filing of nomination papers. The official candidate is asked to keep his papers ready. This is to avoid rebellion. If anyone does try to file nomination it can be contained," said a functionary.
This strategy was evident when the party did not declare candidates till the last minute for Yavatmal-Washim and Hingoli seats. The Sena has replaced five-time MP Bhavana Gawli from Yavatmal-Wasgim and sitting MP Hemant Patil from Hingoli.
It has fielded Hemant Patil's wife Rajashree Patil from Yavatmal-Washim in Vidarbha and Baburao Kadam Kohlikar from Hingoli in Marathwada.
The candidates were told well in advance about their candidature and nominations were filed on Thursday, which was the last day for the process, the functionary said.
The Shiv Sena, which has replaced three sitting MPs so far, is likely to replace Mumbai North-West MP Gajanan Kirtikar. The fate of Nashik MP Hemant Godse hangs in the balance as allies BJP and NCP have staked claim to the seat.
On March 28, the Shinde-led party had announced candidates for eight seats. These are Mumbai South-Central (Rahul Shewale), Kolhapur (Sanjay Mandlik), Shirdi (Sadashiv Lokhande), Buldhana (Prataprao Jadhav), Hingoli (Hemant Patil who was later replaced by Kohlikar), Maval (Shrirang Barne), Ramtek (Raju Parve) and Hatkanangle (Dhairyasheel Mane).&nbsp;

The Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena on Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar's order declaring the Sena bloc led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the "real political party" after its split in June 2022.
The speaker had also rejected the Thackeray faction's plea to disqualify 16 MLAs of the ruling camp, including Shinde.
In his ruling on the disqualification petitions on January 10, the speaker had not disqualified any MLA from the rival camps.
The ruling further cemented Shinde's position as the chief minister, 18 months after he led a rebellion against Thackeray, and added to his political heft in the ruling coalition, which also consists of the BJP and the NCP (Ajit Pawar group), ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in summer and state assembly elections due in the second half of 2024.
Narwekar had said no party leadership can use provisions of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution (anti-defection law) to quell dissent or indiscipline within a party.
The Shinde group had the support of 37 out of the total 54 Sena MLAs when party split in June 2022, the speaker had noted.
The Election Commission had given the 'Shiv Sena' name and 'bow and arrow' symbol to the Shinde-led faction in early 2023.
In his order on the disqualification petitions filed by Shinde-led Sena and the rival Thackeray faction against each other's MLAs, Narwekar had said Sunil Prabhu of the Sena (UBT) ceased to be the whip from June 21, 2022 (when the party split) and legislator Bharat Gogawale of the Shinde group became the authorised whip.
"All the petitions seeking disqualification of MLAs are rejected. No MLA is being disqualified," Narwekar had said.
The speaker had also held that the Shiv Sena 'pramukh' (chief) did not have the power to remove any leader from the party. He did not accept the argument that the will of the party chief and the will of the party were synonymous.
The 1999 party constitution submitted to the Election Commission was the valid constitution for deciding the issues and the Thackeray group's contention that the amended constitution of 2018 should be relied upon was not acceptable, he had added.&nbsp;

"There is only Shiv Sena legislative party before the speaker,” Narwekar said, adding that “Whip of the legislative party to which the Thackeray camp MLAs belong will be applicable to them.”

Maharashtra Speaker Rahul Narwekar on Friday said there is only one Shiv Sena legislative party in the state legislature and its MLAs will have to adhere to the whip issued by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led camp&rsquo;s whip Bharat Gogavale, recognised by him.
Speaking to a news channel, Narwekar said he has diligently followed the Supreme Court&rsquo;s guidelines while giving his judgment on the cross-petitions by Sena factions seeking disqualification of each other&rsquo;s MLAs following a split in the party in 2022, and his decision is &ldquo;tenable&rdquo;.
Narwekar has come under intense criticism from the opposition, especially the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) for recognising the Shinde outfit as the &ldquo;real&rdquo; Shiv Sena. Thackeray has termed the verdict a "murder of democracy" and said his party will move the Supreme Court against it.
"I had to decide which of the two groups in the legislature represents the original political party. No party can have two whips. So MLAs of that (other) group have to adhere to the whip recognised by me,&rdquo; Narwekar said.
Whip is binding to party MLAs failing which they can attract disqualification.
When asked whether the Sena (UBT) group exists before him, Narwekar said, &ldquo;There is only Shiv Sena legislative party before the speaker.&rdquo; When further asked whether Gogavale's whip will be applicable to the Thackeray camp, Narwekar said, &ldquo;Whip of the legislative party to which the Thackeray camp MLAs belong will be applicable to them.&rdquo;
Narwekar on Wednesday gave his order on disqualification petitions concerning Shiv Sena MLAs. He recognised the Shinde-led party as the &ldquo;real political party&rdquo; and also Gogavale as the party whip.
Defending his decision to not recognise the 2018 constitution of the Shiv Sena, Narwekar said those who have been elected to the national executive were communicated to the Election Commission of India, but their letter does not mention that a copy of the party constitution has been attached to it.
He said according to the state legislature rules, after a political party gets recognition as the legislative party, it has to submit a copy of its constitution and organisational structure to the speaker&rsquo;s office in 30 days.
&ldquo;But unfortunately, neither Uddhav Thackeray nor Eknath Shinde communicated it to the speaker&rsquo;s office,&rdquo; Narwekar said.

Announcing the ruling, Narwekar said that Thackeray did not have the support of majority and had no power to remove Shinde.
The Speaker rejected Uddhav's plea to consider the party's 2018 constitution. He said that the constitution provided by Election Commission of India is the relevant one to determine which faction is the real political party.
"The 2018 amended constitution of Shiv Sena cannot be considered as valid as it's not in the records of the Election Commission of India. As per Supreme Court orders, I can not delve into any other factor on which the constitution is valid. As per records, I am relying on the 1999 constitution of Shiv Sena as the valid constitution," said the Speaker.
Ruling in favour of the Shinde faction, Narwekar said that the decision of majority is the party's will.
