&lsquo;The Elephant Whisperers&rsquo; and &lsquo;RRR&rsquo;s &lsquo;Naatu Naatu&rsquo; emerged as winners at the 95th Academy Awards, but the third nomination from India, &lsquo;All That Breathes&rsquo;, failed to bag the Documentary Feature award.
&lsquo;The Elephant Whisperers&rsquo; producer Guneet Monga took to Twitter to share a note for &lsquo;All That Breathes&rsquo; director Shaunak Sen.
She wrote, &lsquo;Dear Shaunak, it&rsquo;s been such a pleasure learning from you! I love @allthatbreathes. In this last month, knowing you as a filmmaker has been an absolute honour. &nbsp;The world needs to see the brilliance of the cinema you create.&rsquo;
Listing the various international accolades garnered by &lsquo;All That Breathes&rsquo;, she said that she would &lsquo;always put Shaunak Sen&rsquo;s name as one of the most important filmmakers from India for the world to watch.&rsquo;
She concluded her note by saying, &lsquo;Yesterday&rsquo;s Oscars may have passed, but the impact of &lsquo;All That Breathes&rsquo; and its visionary director will continue to inspire and touch hearts.&rsquo;

Shaunak also congratulated the team of &lsquo;The Elephant Whisperers&rsquo; and &lsquo;RRR&rsquo; in his post.&nbsp;

Indians at the Oscars: A brief history

In 2009, at the 81st Academy Awards, music composer A R Rahman and sound engineer Resul Pookutty won the award for their work on Danny Boyle’s film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Rahman won two awards— Best Original Song for ‘Jai Ho’, which he shared with lyricist Gulzar, and Best Original Score, while Pookutty won for Best Sound Mixing.

Over the years, many Indian filmmakers, actors, and talents have made their presence felt at one of cinema's biggest nights. However, only a handful of Indians have won the coveted statuette.
The first Academy Award was won by Bhanu Athaiya, who bagged Best Costume Design in 1983 for the film &lsquo;Gandhi&rsquo;. The film, directed by Richard Attenborough, won eight Oscars that year including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Ben Kingsley, who played Mahatma Gandhi.
In 1992, Indian director Satyajit Ray won an honorary Oscar &lsquo;in recognition of his rare mastery of the art of motion pictures, and of his profound humanitarian outlook, which has had an indelible influence on filmmakers and audiences throughout the world&rsquo;.
Ray, who accepted the award from his hospital bed via video one month before his death, called it &lsquo;the best achievement of my moviemaking career&rsquo;.

&lsquo;We&rsquo;re genuinely thrilled with the recognition, and looking forward to the next steps in the film&rsquo;s journey,&rsquo; Shaunak Sen said in an interview.

Oscars 2023 are just a month away and three films and one song from India have made it to the 95th Academy Awards making us all proud. Shaunak Sen&rsquo;s &lsquo;All That Breathes&rsquo;, which won the Best Documentary honour at the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival, has also been shortlisted for the Academy in the Documentary Feature Film category.
In an exclusive interview with The Indian Express, Shaunak said, &lsquo;We&rsquo;re besides ourselves with joy and relief. Not least because this shines more light on the singularly remarkable work our characters do, but also owing to the lovely films we are in the company of. We&rsquo;re genuinely thrilled with the recognition, and looking forward to the next steps in the film&rsquo;s journey.&rsquo;
&lsquo;We&rsquo;re exhilarated about India&rsquo;s stunning performance at the shortlist level, four (shortlisted films) is incredible,&rsquo; he added.
&lsquo;All That Breathes&rsquo; is a story about two Muslim brothers, who rescue black kites falling from a smog-choked New Delhi's skies.
This is perhaps the first time India has made it to four <a href="https://www.editorji.com/entertainment-news/hollywood/oscars-2023-to-broadcast-all-23-categories-after-facing-flak-for-removing-eight-this-year-1669817119098">Oscar</a> shortlists.
The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12, 2023, at Los Angeles' Dolly Theatre.
