<p>Actor Sharmin Segal faced massive criticism for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali&rsquo;s debut web series &lsquo;Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar&rsquo;. She has also been criticised for her promotional interviews with many pointing out her 'rude' and 'disrespectful' behaviour towards her co-stars.</p>
<p>In response to the backlash, Sharmin expressed gratitude for the support shown by her co-stars like Richa Chadha and Aditi Rao Hydari.</p>
<p>'I see that my co-stars are courageous people to come out and talk in my support. It&rsquo;s humbling to know that that&rsquo;s how they feel about me. Some of them personally reached out to me as well, but to step in for me on public platforms, I just feel like I want to go and hug them... Aditi looks out for me. I look out for her&hellip; she's one of the people who most actively called me, checked in, and ensured I was okay throughout this month. I love her. It's a complete misrepresentation of my equation with Aditi. I only have respect for her.' she said.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Regarding the controversies, Sharmin defended herself, stating that comments about her being disrespectful or arrogant were taken out of context. 'I think it&rsquo;s unfair to judge or label me a bad, rude, or disrespectful person without knowing me. I think it&rsquo;s unfair, and it bothers me in some ways. For me, a comment section cannot define a person as good or bad because those people do not know me', she added.</p>
<p>Addressing a specific incident where she referred to Aditi Rao Hydari as a 'schoolgirl' which was intended as a roast, Sharmin clarified that it was misunderstood. She insisted that her bond with Aditi is positive and respectful, contrary to how it may have been portrayed.</p>
<p>Despite mixed reviews for her role in 'Heeramandi,' Sharmin emphasised that judgement based on online comments is unfair, as it doesn't capture her real self. Sharmin remains grateful for the support from her colleagues and stands firm against what she perceives as misrepresentation in the public eye.</p>

"I had given my all to Alamzeb’s character. We tend to fixate on the negatives but there are so many positives that have also come along, which we don’t talk about," she said.

While the director and its actors have been enjoying the massive success, Sharmin Segal, the actor who portrayed the character of Alamzeb, has been at the receiving end of huge criticism. Netizens have been trolling the actor for her &lsquo;expressionless&rsquo; performance in the series. For the first time, the actor has broken her silence on the matter. &nbsp;</p>
<h2>Sharmin Segal breaks silence on trolling&nbsp;</h2>
<p>The most-talked about and the most trolled person on the internet, Sharmin Segal has finally opened up about the criticism she has faced post the release of &lsquo;Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar&rsquo;. In an interview with News18 Showshah, the actor emphasised on the importance of acknowledging audience&rsquo;s response. She said, &ldquo;The audience is the king at the end of the day. And as a creative person, it&rsquo;s very important to acknowledge that. They have a right to their opinion &ndash; positive or negative. That&rsquo;s one thing that gives me perspective and allows me to be okay.&rdquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>The actor said that she gave it all to the character and believes that even though there have been many positive responses, social media fixated on the negative ones. &ldquo;I had given my all to Alamzeb&rsquo;s character. The 28-year-old opened up on why she decided to make a distance from the social media chatter about her performance. &nbsp;&ldquo;There was a point when I was not looking at many things [reviews] but then slowly, I realised that I was also missing out on a lot of love that I was getting. I&rsquo;ve now started paying attention to that. Over the last few days, I decided to look through it all. The audience&rsquo;s opinion is what will probably help you be the best version of yourself,&rdquo; she shared.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The actor seems to have moved on and is now looking at the positive aspects of the entire experience. She said, &ldquo;I saw positivity, constructive criticism, and a whole range of feedback and that&rsquo;s what happens when you put yourself out there as an artist or an actor. It was actually quite nice to hear all sides of things. It&rsquo;s an inevitability. Opinions shape you as an actor and a human being. These are actual humans responding to you and it makes you realise how many people you can reach. These opinions are very important.&rdquo;</p>
<p>Despite the harsh trolling, Sharmin did gain a lot of attention even if for the wrong reason. Her debut film, &lsquo;Malaal&rsquo; came up on the list of top 10 films after the &lsquo;Heeramandi&rsquo; release. She sees this as a positive and said, &ldquo;They&rsquo;ve not only connected with Alamzeb and Sharmin but also with Aastha from Malaal. Malaal is in the list of top ten shows because of Heeramandi. Heeramandi has allowed me to connect with so many people across the globe. It&rsquo;s quite a nice experience overall.&rdquo; &nbsp;</p>

<p>In response to criticism of her Heeramandi performance, Sharmin Segal discussed on a BBC Asian Network podcast the pressure she faces and how it sometimes manifests strangely. She credited her sister, who was also an assistant director on the show, as her strongest support system, providing outlets for her to vent.</p>
<p>She said, &lsquo;There is a lot of pressure and sometimes it manifests in weird ways. But I have a really good support system. I think my strongest support system is my sister. She also happened to be an assistant director on the show. So, it worked out in a way where I do have my outlets where I can vent.&rsquo;</p>
<p>&lsquo;In my personal life, I am secure enough today to come home to my husband and put everything that I have done at work aside. But I am not that person who&rsquo;s gonna constantly put that much pressure on it. Yes, I do want to prove myself; but today I am also a realist in that way. We live in a world of 1.7 billion people, in India itself (this is a figure Sharmin got wrong during the chat. As per UN data from last year, India&rsquo;s population is around 1.4 billion). After all, how many people&rsquo;s opinions are you gonna shape or have control over,&rsquo; she added.</p>
