Starting off the week on a positive note, equity benchmark indices surged in early trading on Monday, with the Nifty reaching a new all-time high amidst a global market rally.

The Nifty hit its all-time high level of 22,440. Among the Sensex firms, NTPC, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, IndusInd Bank and Maruti were the biggest gainers. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Titan and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra were among the laggards. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo and Shanghai were trading in the green while Hong Kong quoted lower.
In a special trading session on Saturday, the BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 60.80 points or 0.08 per cent to reach its all-time closing high of 73,806.15. The Nifty went up by 39.65 points or 0.18 per cent to settle at a new closing high of 22,378.40.
Leading stock exchanges BSE and NSE conducted a special trading session in the equity and equity derivative segments on Saturday to check their preparedness to handle major disruption or failure at the primary site.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.11 per cent to USD 83.64 a barrel.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 81.87 crore on Saturday, according to exchange data.

Election Commission of India (ECI) on February 17 allotted the party name "Shiv Sena" and the symbol "Bow and Arrow" to the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The chief whip of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Bharat Gogawale with other MLAs reached Vidhan Bhavan on Monday and gave notice to the Speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly Rahul Narvekar asking for the handover of the Shiv Sena legislative party office at Vidhan Bhavan. Gogawale said that the office at Vidhan Bhavan belonged to the Shinde faction after the ECI order.
"We have given a notice to the Speaker. We are following the orders of ECI. We will take a call on how to proceed further. Since ECI has recognised us as Shiv Sena, so this office belongs to us now," he said.
Election Commission of India (ECI) on February 17 allotted the party name "Shiv Sena" and the symbol "Bow and Arrow" to the faction led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Notably, both factions of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray) have been fighting for the bow and arrow symbol of the party since Shinde (present Maharashtra Chief Minister) revolted against Thackeray last year.

While the Shinde faction welcomed the decision of being recognized as the real Shiv Sena, the Uddhav Thackeray faction said they would move the Supreme Court. The Uddhav Thackeray faction accused the Election Commission of haste and said the decision shows "it works as BJP agent".

Civic elections in Mumbai are very crucial as the cash-rich BMC has been the bastion of the Shiv Sena for more than two decades.
"I am not demoralized, and I am banking on your support. You are my strength," Thackeray told his supporters.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should know that they will never be able to finish off the Shiv Sena despite using the state machinery which has become their slave, he said.
''Are you scared? I have nothing to give you now," he asked the gathering.
His supporters shouted back that they were not, and asked him to give directions for the next move.
''We should not rest till we teach the thief a lesson in elections. Start preparing for elections immediately," said Thackeray who had to resign as Maharashtra Chief Minister last June after Eknath Shinde and a majority of Sena MLAs rebelled against his leadership.

&ldquo;The Hathras victim was not a celebrity and she was not on drugs. She did not have any illegal construction (built by) spending crores of rupees. She was a simple girl whose dead body was illegally burnt in the dead of the night. All this happened in Yogi's (Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath&rsquo;s) &lsquo;Ramrajya&rsquo; (concept of ideal rule).
&ldquo;We hear that such incidents happen in Pakistan where Hindu girls are kidnapped, raped and murdered. What happened in Hathras was no different. So far no one has called Hathras a Pakistan," he said in his weekly column &lsquo;Rokhthok&rsquo;.
Raut said that identity of a rape victim should never be revealed, but a photograph of the Hathras victim in a hospital was circulated. &ldquo;Those who supported Kangana Ranaut's baseless comments against Mumbai and Maharashtra and demanded justice for her when her illegal construction was pulled down (by the Mumbai civic body last month), are now silent and have become invisible when it comes to demanding justice for the Hathras victim,&rdquo; he wrote.
He questioned the &ldquo;silence&rdquo; of National Commission for Women&rsquo;s chairperson Rekha Sharma, who had filed a case against Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik for his remarks against Ranaut, in the Hathras case.
&ldquo;Has justice eluded the Hathras victim because she was a Dalit?" Raut asked. He also criticised Union minister and Dalit leader Ramdas Athawale for &ldquo;keeping mum&rdquo; on the case.
"The Dalit movement and Ambedkar thoughts have been destroyed," he said.
Raut said 12,257 incidents of gang-rape have taken reported in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh from 2014 to 2019, &ldquo;but justice is given considering caste, religion and political affiliations&rdquo;.
&ldquo;If a Hathras-like incident had taken place in Maharashtra, demands would have been raised for dismissal of the state government and for imposition of President's rule,&rdquo; he added.&nbsp;

Reports said 17 lawmakers from the Lok&nbsp;Sabha&nbsp;and 8 MPs&nbsp;from the Rajya&nbsp;Sabha&nbsp;have tested positive.&nbsp;
The government has made it mandatory for the lawmakers to test negative for the deadly coronavirus to attend the session. 4000&nbsp;people including the MPs were tested before the 18-day session began on Monday.&nbsp;
According to the report, 12 of the total infected Lok&nbsp;Sabha&nbsp;MPs are from the&nbsp;Bharatiya&nbsp;Janata&nbsp;Party,&nbsp;whereas 2 are from YSR&nbsp;Congress and one each are from&nbsp;the&nbsp;Shiv&nbsp;Sena, DMK and&nbsp;Rashtriya&nbsp;Loktantrik&nbsp;Party.&nbsp;

According to a PTI&nbsp;report on Friday, the&nbsp;Governor had met an advisor of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and expressed his displeasure over the BMC's&nbsp;move to demolish part of Kangana's&nbsp;office.&nbsp;

"Many artistes have been awarded Bharat Ratna and also Nishan-e-Pakistan," it noted.
Incidentally, the Shiv Sena had protested vociferously against Dilip Kumar when he accepted Nishan-e-Pakistan, the highest civil award of the neighbouring country, several years ago.
The editorial also pointed out that the Mumbai film industry provides jobs to lakhs of people.
Referring to the criticism that it is dominated by the "Khans", the newspaper said at one time the industry was dominated by Punjabis and Maharashtrians.
Many Muslim actors adopted Hindu screen names such as Dilip Kumar (whose real name is Yusuf Khan), Madhubala (Mumtaz Jehan Begum Dehlavi), it said, adding that what mattered was only talent and not the person's religion.
While talented members of Bollywood dynasties such as Kapoors, Roshans, Dutts, Shantarams survived, actors like Rajesh Khanna, Jitendra, Dharmendradid not have any film family background, the editorial said.
"What is the problem if their children and grand- children take forward their legacy," the Sena mouthpiece asked, in apparent counter to Ranaut's tirade against nepotism in the film industry.
Dynasties or `gharanas' exist in the fields of music and direction too, it added.
"These people did not fight the fish while living in a pond" (did not fight the milieu in which they lived)" and "did not throw stones at others while living in a glass house," the editorial said, in a veiled reference toRanaut who has criticized bigwigs in the film industry.&nbsp;
