Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan suffered a brain haemorrhage which has been tackled, is on ventilator support as a safeguard and stable, doctors treating him said on Wednesday, a day after he was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai.
The 90-year-old, one half of the celebrated Salim-Javed duo which scripted films such as "Sholay", "Deewar" and "Don" with Javed Akhtar, is in the ICU and recovery might take some time given his age.
"His blood pressure was high for which we treated him and we had to put him on a ventilator because we wanted to do certain investigations. Now the ventilator was put as a safeguard so that his situation doesn't get worse. So it is not that he is critical," Dr Jalil Parkar told reporters.
"We did the investigations that were required and today we have done a small procedure on him, I will not go into the details. The procedure done is called DSA (digital subtraction angiography). The procedure has been accomplished, he is fine and stable and shifted back to ICU. By tomorrow, we hope to get him off the ventilator. All in all, he is doing quite well," he added.
Asked whether he suffered a brain haemorrhage, the doctor said, "Unko thoda haemorrhage hua tha, which we&rsquo;ve tackled. No surgery is required."
As concern over Khan's health mounted, his children, including superstar Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan, daughter Alvira, and sons-in-law Atul Agnihotri and Aayush Sharma, have been seen outside the hospital along with other well-wishers. His long-time partner Akhtar was also seen coming out of the hospital.
Khan, a household name in the 70s and 80s, turned 90 on November 24 last year. It was the day Dharmendra, the star of many of his films, including "Sholay", "Seeta aur Geeta" and "Yaadon Ki Baraat", passed away.
Hailing from an affluent family in Indore, Khan arrived in Mumbai in his 20s with dreams of stardom. He was good looking and confident he would make a mark in the industry as an actor. But that did not happen. And then, after struggling for close to a decade and getting confined to small roles in films, he changed lanes.
He worked as an assistant to Abrar Alvi and soon met Akhtar to form one of Hindi cinema's most formidable writing partnerships. They worked together on two dozen movies with most of them achieving blockbuster status.
Other than "Sholay", "Deewar" and "Don", Khan and Akhtar also penned "Trishul", "Zanjeer", "Seeta Aur Geeta", "Haathi Mere Saathi", "Yaadon Ki Baarat" and "Mr India".

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan&rsquo;s brother-in-law Aayush Sharma has allegedly received a threat email, police have said, the development coming close on the heels of actor Ranveer Singh getting a threat through WhatsApp.
The sender of the email to Sharma, who is also an actor, claimed he was a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, they said on Wednesday, without providing further details.
Though there was no formal complaint, the police have launched a probe in connection with the threat email to Sharma, an official said.
Crime branch sleuths are verifying whether the email was genuine or somebody played mischief, he said.
Recently, actor Ranveer Singh received a threat through a voice note on WhatsApp from unidentified persons.
Police suspect members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang could be behind the threat to Ranveer made with the purpose of extortion, an official said on Tuesday.
Last week, an unidentified shooter fired five rounds at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence in Mumbai's Juhu area.&nbsp;

Salman Khan&ndash;starrer Battle of Galwan, based on the 2020 India-China Galwan Valley clash, has attracted international attention after Chinese state-run Global Times criticised the film for allegedly distorting facts.

Salman Khan&ndash;starrer Battle of Galwan has drawn attention both in India and internationally following the release of its teaser on December 27, which coincided with the actor&rsquo;s birthday.&nbsp;
The film has now come under criticism from Global Times, a state-run Chinese media outlet, which alleged that the film was &ldquo;distorting facts.&rdquo;
According to the publication, Chinese experts claimed that regardless of how &ldquo;over-the-top&rdquo; a drama may be, a nation&rsquo;s sacred territory would never be affected by a film.
In Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, Salman Khan is seen wearing the Indian Army uniform. The film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes along the India-China border. Twenty Indian soldiers were killed during the clash on June 16, 2020, five years ago, while the Chinese side also suffered heavy casualties.
Following the incident, tensions between India and China escalated, with the deployment of additional army formations near the Galwan Valley along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.&nbsp;
The Indian Army also undertook various activities, including surveying border areas, to prevent a &ldquo;possible&rdquo; Chinese aggression. Since then, both countries have gradually disengaged from several border points and created buffer zones in multiple areas.
The teaser for the film was unveiled on the occasion of Salman Khan&rsquo;s birthday. Sharing the teaser on Instagram, the actor offered a glimpse of his role as an Indian Army officer.&nbsp;
He appears in a serious and restrained avatar, with visuals showcasing rugged terrain, extreme cold conditions, and close-combat scenes, highlighting the challenges faced by soldiers deployed at high altitudes.
Actor Chitrangda Singh has been cast opposite Salman Khan in the film, which is scheduled to release in theatres on April 17, 2026.
Meanwhile, on December 7, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the &ldquo;Galwan War Memorial,&rdquo; honouring the 20 Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the Galwan Valley clash. Addressing the ceremony at the Leh Army Base, he said, &ldquo;The bravery of our soldiers is an inspiration for all of us.&rdquo;
Speaking about the memorial, Major General Arindam Saha, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3rd Infantry Division, said, &ldquo;This is a solemn tribute to our 20 brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during the Galwan Valley clash on June 15, 2020. On the last Army Day, the Defence Minister had announced the construction of this memorial. Building such a structure at 14,500 feet is no ordinary task, but the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) completed it within a limited timeframe.&rdquo;
Major General Saha added that the memorial stands as a reflection of India&rsquo;s unwavering commitment to honouring its fallen heroes.

TV actor Gaurav Khanna is the winner of the popular reality TV show &ldquo;Bigg Boss&rdquo; season 19 after he beat rival Farrhana Bhatt to claim the trophy.
Show host and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan presented Khanna with the prize money of over Rs 50 lakh and the trophy.
"It is yet to sink in. It is very surreal for me now. I received so much of love. What I love about it that I didn't change a bit. I am the same when I went inside the house and came out and people like that (quality) a lot. I didn't change or faked anything," Khanna told PTI in an interview,
The TV star, known for his roles in "Anupama" and "CID", said the turning point was when the the superstar host expressed his desire to work with him.
"I cried at that very moment," he added.
Asked what he will do with the winning amount, Khanna said he will take the advantage of his MBA degree and invest it wisely.
The season 19 of the show, which kickstarted on August 24, saw Bhatt emerge as the first runner-up.
Bhatt, who has acted in movies like "Laila Majnu" and "Notebook", said she is happy that she got a chance to win many hearts while on the show.
"I never had my eyes on trophy. I was just going with the flow, doing my best and trying to contribute 100 per cent. When I came out and saw the love of the people, I didn't feel the sadness of not winning the trophy. I was like whoever wants to win trophy can win, I have won hearts outside. So I am very happy and I not sad at all," she said.
The stand-up comedian Pranit More ended up in the third spot.
Content creator Tanya Mittal was at the four position and composer Amaal Malik settled at the fifth place.
The highlights of &ldquo;Bigg Boss 19&rdquo; was the spiritual content creator Mittal who found a new fame inside the house due to her distinct equation with each housemates.
The grand finale also saw Bollywood star Kartik Aryan promote his upcoming film "Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri" along with the co-star Ananya Pandey.
TV actor Karan Kundrra and Sunny Leone, and Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh also marked their attendance.
At the beginning of the show, Khan thanked &ldquo;Big Boss&rdquo; fans and followers for their love and support for the contestants.
Khan also paid tribute to late superstar Dharmendra. Khan, who shared a personal bond with Dharmendra, said there won't be any one like the late superstar who gave 60 years of entertainment.
An emotional Khan said he lost Dharmendra on his father Salim Khan's birthday which was on 24th October.
This season of "Bigg Boss" had a blend of actors, influencers, musicians, and reality stars.
Awez Darbar, Ashnoor Kaur, Kunickaa Sadanand, Mridul Tiwari, Basheer Ali, Abhishek Bajaj, Zeishan Quadri, Nehal Chudasama, Nagma Mirajkar and Neelam Giri were also among the participants of season 19.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia of "Shootout at Lokhandwala" fame, the film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict between India and China.
In an earlier interview with PTI, the 59-year-old actor called the film "physically demanding".
"It is physically demanding. Every year, every month, every day it gets more and more difficult. I've to give more time now (for training). Earlier, I would do it (train) in one or two weeks, now I'm running, kicking, punching, and all that stuff. This film demands that," he said.
"For instance, in 'Sikandar' the action was different, the character was different. But this is physically difficult. Besides, shooting in Ladakh, in high altitude and in cold water (is another challenge)." Khan's "Sikandar" released in March and was directed by A R Murugadoss. Alongside Khan, the film featured Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Prateik Smita Patil, and Anjini Dhawan.
He is currently hosting the reality show "Bigg Boss 19", which premiered on August 24 on JioHotstar.&nbsp;

Prepping for an action movie is becoming increasingly more challenging with each passing year, month and day, says superstar Salman Khan, who terms his next feature one of the most "physically demanding" projects of his career.
Salman, who will turn 60 in December this year, is pouring his heart and soul into "Battle of Galwan" directed by Apoorva Lakhia of "Shootout at Lokhandwala" fame.
The much anticipated war drama is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict between India and China.
"It is physically demanding. Every year, every month, every day it gets more and more difficult. I've to give more time now (for training). Earlier, I would do it (train) in one or two weeks, now I'm running, kicking, punching, and all that stuff. This film demands that," Salman told PTI.
"For instance, in 'Sikandar' the action was different, the character was different. But this is physically difficult. Besides, shooting in Ladakh, in high altitude and in cold water (is another challenge)," he added.
The actor said the team will be heading to Ladakh later this month for a shooting schedule.
"When I was signing the film, I thought it's amazing but it's a very, very difficult film to do. I've 20 days (of work) in Ladakh and then seven to eight days (of shoot) in cold water. We will be shooting this month," he added.
According to the makers, the film is based on one of India&rsquo;s most brutal battles, fought at over 15,000 feet above sea level without a single bullet being fired.
Twenty Indian Army personnel laid down their lives in the Galwan valley clashes in June 2020 that marked the most serious military conflicts between India and China in decades.
"Battle of Galwan" will not have the traditional Eid release, a date often associated with Khan's films, but instead arrive in theatres in January, Salman said.
The actor also confirmed that a sequel to his 2015 movie "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" is in the works.
"I liked that movie (first of the film). It will kind of have the same theme and emotional beat. But it will be a different film," Salman said about the film, which completes 10 years on Thursday.
The Kabir Khan-directed movie was about a Lord Hanuman devotee who embarks on a mission to reunite a mute Pakistani girl with her family across the border.
The actor, a cycling and biking enthusiast, was speaking on the sidelines of a press event for season two of Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL). He is the brand ambassador of ISRL.
"I've always been a rider, from cycles to motorbikes, I've loved them all. Though I don't get to ride as often now," the actor said but cautioned fans against racing on the roads.

Singh was first seen roaming around Khan&rsquo;s house in the morning. A policeman deployed there for the actor&rsquo;s security asked him to leave. In a fit of rage, Singh, who hails from Chhattisgarh, smashed his mobile phone on the ground, the official said.
&ldquo;That evening, Singh entered Galaxy Apartments in a car belonging to a person living in the same building. However, he was stopped by the police again. This time, they handed him over to the Bandra police,&rdquo; the official said.
During interrogation, Singh told the police he wanted to meet the actor. Singh claimed that he tried to sneak in as the police were not allowing him to enter the building, the official said.
It was immediately not clear how Singh got into the car of the resident of Galaxy Apartments.
In another such incident, a woman entered the building on Wednesday and even managed to reach up to Khan&rsquo;s flat, the official said.
Both Singh and the woman have been arrested. Cases of trespassing have been registered against them, the official added.

Given that thirty years ago Salman Khan wasn't 'Bhaijaan' and lacked that swagger, I am not sure how much the current bunch of fans of 'Bhaijaan' will enjoy watching the modest Salman Khan dance to "Yeh Raat Aur Ye Doori" with those hopeful, dreamy eyes from the 1990s. Yet, it's safe to say that many people who long for that era will become a little more nostalgic and fall in love with the lead character in 'Maine Pyar Kiya' after seeing 'Andaz Apna Apna' on the big screen once again.

Trade expert Girish Wankhede said Salman Khan&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sikandar&rdquo; might set the tone for an eventful year, which will also see Aamir Khan&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sitaare Zameen Par&rdquo; arriving in theatres by mid-2025.

As the curtain closes on a relatively underwhelming 2024, trade experts and film exhibitors are pinning hopes on Salman Khan&rsquo;s highly anticipated film &ldquo;Sikandar,&rdquo; and a plethora of franchise offerings like &ldquo;War 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Raid 2&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Housefull 5&rdquo;, which they believe will reignite audience interest at the box office.
The film landscape for 2025 is loaded with diverse content but expectations are high from Salman&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sikandar&rdquo;, which is set to release on the occasion of Eid in March.
Among the films heading into theatres are Kangana Ranaut's political drama &ldquo;Emergency&rdquo;, Akshay Kumar&rsquo;s war film &ldquo;Sky Force&rdquo;, Shahid Kapoor&rsquo;s action-packed thriller &ldquo;Deva&rdquo; and Vicky Kaushal-starrer historical drama &ldquo;Chhaava,&rdquo; which chronicles the life of Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
The second half of 2025 has a remarkable lineup of films like the sequel to popular titles such as &ldquo;Jolly LLB 3&rdquo;, &ldquo;Raid 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Housefull 5&rdquo;, &ldquo;War 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Baaghi 4&rdquo;, &ldquo;De De Pyaar De&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Son of Sardaar 2&rdquo;.
In addition to this, there are other releases such as Varun Dhawan&rsquo;s romantic-comedy movie with father David Dhawan, Shahid Kapoor&rsquo;s actioner which is helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj, a horror-thriller featuring Kajol, &ldquo;Dil Ka Darwaaza Khol Na Darling!&rdquo; starring Jaya Bachchan, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Wamiqa Gabbi and Swanand Kirkire, &ldquo;Alpha&rdquo;, Yash Raj Films' next Spy Universe movie starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, and Aamir&rsquo;s &ldquo;Sitaare Zameen Par&rdquo;.
Distributor-exhibitor Akshay Rathi, who owns theatres in Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh, said movies such as &ldquo;Sikandar&rdquo;, &ldquo;Sky Force&rdquo;, &ldquo;Chhaava&rdquo;, &ldquo;Raid 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;De De Pyaar De 2&rdquo;, &ldquo;Housefull 5&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Alpha&rdquo; have the potential to break box office records.
"If you compare the releases with 2024, which has been held together by two films &ndash; &lsquo;Pushpa 2&rsquo; and &lsquo;Stree 2&rsquo;, there were other movies like &lsquo;Singham Again&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3&rsquo; that did well.
"We need one blockbuster a month to sustain the exhibition infrastructure. We cannot rely on three to four blockbusters. We need that to happen with a lot more consistency. A higher number of films have the potential to become mega-blockbusters in 2025,&rdquo; Rathi told PTI.
In 2024 &ldquo;Stree 2&rdquo; was the biggest and only hit of the year earning over Rs 500 crores, besides a handful of other releases such as &ldquo;Shaitaan&rdquo;, &ldquo;Article 370&rdquo;, &ldquo;Laapataa Ladies&rdquo;, &ldquo;Munjya&rdquo;, &ldquo;Singham Again&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3&rdquo; did decent business.
According to Nitin Datar, President of the Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India, and Amit Sharma, MD of Miraj Entertainment Limited, the 2025 lineup looks promising.
"It's tough to guess now which film will do well because publicity has not started. However, 2025 looks good and I&rsquo;m looking forward to the release of &lsquo;Sikandar&rsquo;, &lsquo;Housefull 5&rsquo;, &lsquo;Jolly LLB 3&rsquo;, &lsquo;Emergency&rsquo;, and &lsquo;Chhaava&rsquo;. The rest of the films will be slow starters but may pick up,&rdquo; Datar told PTI.
"In terms of box office collection 2024 was the worst year, things look brighter compared to last year as there are films like &lsquo;War 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;Jolly LLB 3&rsquo;, &lsquo;Housefull 5&rsquo;, &lsquo;Son of Sardaar 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;Raid 2&rsquo;, &lsquo;Jaat&rsquo;, &lsquo;Sky Force&rsquo;, &lsquo;Sikandar&rsquo;. Overall Hindi films in 2025 should do a 15 to 20 percent better collection than in 2024,&rdquo; Sharma told PTI.
Taran Adarsh said there's an &ldquo;overdose&rdquo; of franchise films. He acknowledged the risk of audience fatigue but is hopeful that each film will attain commercial success.
"It&rsquo;s going to be a strong 2025, there&rsquo;s a good line-up of movies. There&rsquo;s going to be an overdose of franchises and sequels. Let&rsquo;s place our bets on every film that comes in,&rdquo; Adarsh told PTI.

Adarsh underscored the importance of quality content and urged the Hindi film industry to move away from remakes of South Indian films.
"In the coming days, we will see more quality projects and that&rsquo;s because we&rsquo;ve learnt an important lesson that we need to concentrate on content, and need to stop making remakes because they are not working.
"With everything being available on digital medium, people have seen it and people are not interested in seeing the new version, we&rsquo;ve seen this in the case of &lsquo;Baby John&rsquo; or &lsquo;Sarfira&rsquo;. We need to implement the lessons learnt.&rdquo;

Mumbai Police have arrested a 20-year-old youth from Noida for allegedly making threat calls to Salman Khan and Baba Siddiqui&rsquo;s son, Zeeshan Siddiqui. The caller has been identified as Mohammad Tayyab alias Gurfan. According to reports, Zeeshan and Salman received the threat calls on October 25, following which a case was registered based on a complaint by Siddiqui&rsquo;s office. The accused made a demand of a ransom from the Bollywood star and NCP MLA. &nbsp;&nbsp;
The accused was arrested from Noida Sector 39 on Tuesday morning. The Mumbai Police would be bringing the youth to the city on a transit remand for further investigation.&nbsp;
On October 12, Baba Siddiqui, a close friend of Salman Khan and the former minister of Maharashtra, was shot dead allegedly by the members of Lawrence Bishnoi gang. 15 people have been arrested in connection with the murder so far.&nbsp;

In a recent NDTV interview, Ramesh Bishnoi, cousin of the incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, discussed the ongoing feud between his cousin and the actor, claiming that following the backlash over the blackbuck poaching case, Salman offered financial compensation to the Bishnoi community. He stated that Salman came with an empty chequebook, asking community leaders to fill in whatever amount they deemed appropriate to resolve the issue.

Responding to Salim Khan's allegation that Lawrence was targeting Salman for monetary gain, Ramesh clarified that the feud was rooted in ideology, not financial motives. He expressed the intense emotions of the Bishnoi community during that time, saying, &lsquo;Hamara khoon khol raha tha uss waqt&rsquo; (Our blood was boiling at that time). Ramesh also pointed out that Lawrence owned 110 acres of land in India and was financially stable enough not to resort to extortion.
The blackbuck poaching incident occurred in Jodhpur in 1998 while Salman was filming Hum Saath Saath Hain, alongside Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, and Neelam Kothari. The case has lingered for 25 years, and while Salman has been convicted, he is currently out on bail.
The Bishnoi community continues to demand an apology, but Salim Khan has stated that Salman will not apologize, as that would imply guilt.

Mumbai Police have identified and arrested a man from Jharkhand&rsquo;s Jamshedpur for allegedly sending a threat letter to Salman Khan. The accused is a vegetable seller by profession and threatened the Bollywood star on October 18. He has been identified as 24-year-old Shaikh Hussain. &nbsp;
He also demanded a ransom of Rs 5 crore in the name of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The arrest follows an investigation by Mumbai Police. &ldquo;With the help of local police in Jamshedpur, we tracked and arrested the person responsible for the threat. He will be brought to Mumbai for further questioning,&rdquo; said the police spokesperson.&nbsp;
In the threat message, the accused had written that if Salman Khan wants to stay alive and end the enmity with Lawrence Bishnoi, he will have to pay Rs 5 crore. The accused also mentioned that &lsquo;if the money is not given, Salman Khan&rsquo;s condition will be worse than Baba Siddiqui&rsquo;. &nbsp; Later on October 21, the accused contacted the police again to apologize for his earlier threat letter. He said that it was sent by mistake.&nbsp;
However, the police authorities launched a swift investigation, especially in the wake of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui&rsquo;s murder. Besides, Salman Khan&rsquo;s security has also been increased. The actor had earlier been threatened by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang when a few members of the notorious gang opened fire outside Salman&rsquo;s Bandra residence in April.
