Putin shook hands with Jaishankar, receiving him in the Representative Office of the Senate Palace in the Kremlin, state-run TASS news agency reported.
"Honoured to call on President Putin of Russia in Moscow today. Conveyed greetings of Prime Minister @narendramodi," Jaishankar said on social media.

The visuals released by the Kremlin showed Putin welcoming Jaishankar, who was accompanied by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and Joint Secretary Mayank Singh.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko.
The meeting comes ahead of Putin's planned year-end visit to India.
The Russian president is expected to visit India around December 5 to hold annual summit talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Monday, Jaishankar held extensive talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. The meeting comes as the two sides prepare for President Putin's visit to India for the 23rd annual summit.
Earlier, Jaishankar called on President Putin along with other heads of delegation of the SCO member states.
President Putin sat down with Jaishankar after meeting with representatives of all the SCO countries.
The earlier meeting was also attended by Russian PM Mikhail Mishustin, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, Prime Ministers Alexander Turchin of Belarus, Oljas Bektenov of Kazakhstan, Adylbek Kasymaliyev of Kyrgyzstan, Kokhir Rasulzoda of Tajikistan and Abdulla Aripov of Uzbekistan, as well as Pakistan Deputy PM Ishaq Dar and SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev.
On the sidelines of the SCO, Jaishankar also met Mongolia's Prime Minister Gombojavyn Zandanshatar and Qatari PM/FM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
He also thanked Russian PM Mishustin for hosting the SCO Heads of Government meeting and appreciated his hospitality.

Jaishankar and Rubio met in Kuala Lumpur on the sidelines of the annual summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
"Glad to meet @SecRubio this morning in Kuala Lumpur. Appreciated the discussion on our bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues," the external affairs minister said in a post on X.
The relations between New Delhi and Washington have been reeling under severe strain after US President Donald Trump imposed 50 per cent tariffs on India including an additional 25 per cent levies for its procurement of Russian crude oil. India described the US action as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable".
It is understood that Jaishankar and Rubio also broadly delved into the proposed trade pact between the two sides. Five rounds of talks have been completed so far for the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement between India and the US. According to an official, the proposed trade deal is "very near" to concluding.
On Sunday, Jaishankar held separate talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and his Thai counterpart Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
The 11-nation ASEAN is considered one of the most influential blocs in the region, with India and several other countries, including the US, China, Japan and Australia, being its dialogue partners. Malaysia is hosting the annual ASEAN summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur in its capacity as the current chair of the grouping.

Addressing the G20 Foreign Ministers&rsquo; meeting here, Jaishankar said those who act against terrorists on any front render a "larger service to the international community as a whole". &nbsp;Speaking on the correlation between international peace and global development, he said that in recent times, both deteriorated in parallel.
"A persistent threat to development is that perennial disruptor of peace - terrorism," he said, adding, "It is imperative that the world display neither tolerance nor accommodation to terrorist activities." As the world confronts conflict, economic pressures and terrorism, the limitations of multilateralism and the United Nations are visible, Jaishankar said.
"The need for reforming multilateralism has never been greater,&rdquo; he said, adding that today, the international situation is both politically and economically volatile.
&ldquo;We as members of G20 have a particular responsibility to strengthen its stability and give it a more positive direction that is best done by undertaking dialogue and diplomacy, by firmly combating terrorism, and by appreciating the need for stronger energy and economic security.&rdquo; Speaking on peace and global development, he said ongoing conflicts, particularly in Ukraine and Gaza, have starkly demonstrated the costs, especially to the Global South, in terms of energy, food and fertiliser security.
&ldquo;Apart from jeopardising supplies and logistics, access and cost themselves became pressure points on nations. Double standards are clearly in evidence,&rdquo; he said.
Jaishankar stressed that while peace enables development, threatening development cannot facilitate peace.
He said that making energy and other essentials more uncertain in an economically fragile situation helps no one, and called for moving the needle towards dialogue and diplomacy, "not in the opposite direction towards further complications".
In any conflict situation, there will be a few who have the ability to engage both sides and such countries can be utilised by the international community, both to achieve peace and to maintain it thereafter, he said. &nbsp;&ldquo;So even as we attempt to address complex threats to peace, the value of encouraging a buy-in from those supportive of such goals should be appreciated," he said.

In a meeting with David van Weel of the Netherlands on Tuesday evening in New York, Jaishankar held an "insightful conversation on European strategic positioning and India's approach".
He also met Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen, where he "valued his insights on recent developments in Europe" and the ongoing Ukraine conflict. The two ministers also discussed bilateral ties and cooperation between India and the European Union under Denmark&rsquo;s Presidency of the Council of the EU.
With Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, Jaishankar reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation.
The External Affairs Minister also met with Mauritian Foreign Minister Ritish Ramful and discussed follow-up actions to the recent State Visit of Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam to India.
In a meeting with Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel, Jaishankar reiterated India&rsquo;s "steadfast" support for the development of the Maldives.
Bilateral ties were also on the agenda in separate meetings with foreign ministers Lejone Mpotjoana of Lesotho, Melvin Bouva of Suriname, Abdisalam Ali of Somalia, Alva Baptiste of Saint Lucia, and Kamina J Smith of Jamaica.
Jaishankar congratulated Smith on her reappointment as Jamaica&rsquo;s Foreign Minister and expressed optimism about strengthening the India-Jamaica partnership.
He also had a "quick chat" with Singapore&rsquo;s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on the sidelines of the High-Level Meeting of Like-Minded Global South Countries.
In addition to his ministerial engagements, Jaishankar met Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of Dubai-based multinational logistics company DP World, to discuss "current developments in the international economy and their implications for connectivity and logistics".
Earlier, he attended an informal meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers, hosted by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

Outlining a structured approach for how the Global South can engage with world affairs, the minister made five key proposals to strengthen the collective voice and influence of the developing nations.
He emphasised the importance of utilising existing forums to strengthen consultations among the Global South with a view to "enhance solidarity and encourage collaboration".
Jaishankar also called for comprehensive reform of the UN and "multilateralism as a whole".
He said the Global South must bring its specific strengths, experiences and achievements to the international stage to benefit fellow nations, citing "vaccines, digital capabilities, education capacities, agro-practices and SME (Small and Medium Enterprises)" as key examples.
Highlighting the need for an equitable approach to global challenges, the minister said that in areas like climate action and climate justice, the Global South should come up with initiatives that serve its interests, rather than merely aligning with the perspectives of the Global North.
He also underscored the importance of engaging in discussions on emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, to ensure that developing countries are not left behind in the evolving global order.
India has been consistently championing the voice of the Global South in international forums and reiterating its commitment to ensuring that developing nations play a meaningful role in shaping the global agenda.&nbsp;

He met Jaishankar here on Monday morning on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly high-level week.
Rubio reiterated that "India is a relationship of critical importance to the United States" and expressed his appreciation for the Indian government&rsquo;s continued engagement on a number of issues, including trade, defence, energy, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, and other items related to the bilateral relationship", a readout of the meeting provided by the State Department said.
Rubio and Jaishankar agreed that the United States and India will continue working together to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region, including through the Quad, the statement added.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said it was "good to meet" Rubio in New York.
"Our conversation covered a range of bilateral and international issues of current concern. Agreed on the importance of sustained engagement to progress on priority areas. We will remain in touch," he said.
Rubio said in a post on X that he discussed with Jaishankar "key areas of our bilateral relationship, including trade, energy, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals and more to generate prosperity for India and the United States".
The meeting, which lasted for about an hour, was the first in-person talk between Rubio and Jaishankar amid tensions between the two countries over the last few months on trade, tariffs and New Delhi's purchases of Russian energy.
The Trump administration imposed an additional 25 per cent tariff on New Delhi as a penalty for its purchases of Russian oil, taking the total levies imposed on India by the US to 50 per cent, among the highest in the world.
Just days before the meeting, President Donald Trump signed a proclamation imposing a staggering USD 100,000 fee on new H1B visas. The announcement caused widespread concern and panic among Indian professionals, including those from the IT and medical fields, who are the largest beneficiaries of the H1B skilled-worker program.
Rubio and Jaishankar had last held bilateral discussions in July in Washington DC, on the sidelines of the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
The bilateral meeting on the margins of the UNGA high-level week came the same day India and the US held discussions towards achieving an early conclusion of a trade agreement.
A delegation led by Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal is in New York for meetings with the US side on September 22. "The delegation plans to take forward the discussions with a view to achieving early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Trade Agreement," the Ministry of Commerce and Industry had said.
The two countries had hoped to conclude the first tranche of a Bilateral Trade Agreement by October-November of 2025. The pact is aimed at more than doubling the bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030 from the current USD 191 billion.
During the last visit of the team of officials from the office of United States Trade Representative to India on September 16, "positive discussions were held on various aspects of the trade deal, and it was decided to intensify efforts in this regard." On Monday, Jaishankar also met European Union Foreign Ministers at their informal meeting.
He thanked EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas for hosting him. "An opportunity to have open exchange of views on multilateralism, India-EU partnership, Ukraine conflict, Gaza, energy and trade," Jaishankar remarked.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss bilateral relations and prepare for the annual summit at the end of the year.
"Today's meeting gives us an occasion to discuss our political relationship as well, but also to review our bilateral ties. So, I look forward to an exchange of views on politics, on trade, on economic investment, defence, science and technology, and of course, people-to-people exchanges," Jaishankar said in his opening remarks.
"Our leaders met in July for the 22nd annual summit last year, and thereafter in Kazan. We now prepare for the annual summit at the end of the year, and they have always given us guidance to take forward our special and privileged strategic partnership," he added.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the two sides will pay special attention to the current and future avenues for promoting bilateral cooperation during the meeting.
"The meeting's agenda will focus on facilitating the emergence of transport, logistics, banking and financial links and chains that would be immune to any adverse pressures from unfriendly countries, while also increasing the use of national currencies in their mutual settlements," the ministry said.
It added that expanding cooperation in transport, energy, agriculture, science and technology will also be on the agenda.
Jaishankar's visit comes against the backdrop of strains in India's ties with the US following President Donald Trump doubling tariffs on Indian goods to 50 per cent, which included an additional penalty of 25 per cent for purchasing Russian crude oil.
"The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding and time-tested India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic partnership," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said while announcing Jaishankar's trip to Moscow.
Jaishankar and Lavrov are also expected to discuss the latest initiatives by the Trump administration to bring peace to Ukraine.
India has been consistently calling for ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.

India and Russia should come out with a creative and innovative approach to confront complex geopolitical challenges, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday amid increasing strains in New Delhi's ties with Washington over its purchase of Russian crude oil.
Jaishankar made the remarks at a meeting with Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov in Moscow.
In his televised opening remarks, the external affairs minister said India and Russia should continuously diversify and expand their "agenda" of cooperation including by diversifying the bilateral trade basket and through more joint ventures.
"Doing more and doing differently should be our mantras," he said.
The comments came against the backdrop of a downturn in relations between India and the US after President Donald Trump doubled tariffs on Indian goods to a whopping 50 per cent including a 25 per cent additional duties for India's purchase of Russian crude oil.
The external affairs minister arrived in Moscow on Tuesday on a three-day visit.
The Jaishankar-Manturov talks were held under the framework of India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).
The meeting was aimed at preparing grounds for Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India later this year.
Elaborating on the importance of India-Russia ties in the context of current geopolitical upheaval, Jaishankar made specific suggestions to further consolidate the engagement, especially in the economic sphere.
"The various working groups and sub groups could perhaps take a more creative and innovative approach towards their respective agendas. The challenges posed by the larger landscape that I mentioned require us to do so," he said.
The external affairs minister said both sides should continuously diversify and expand their agenda through mutual consultation.
"This will help us tap into full potential of our trade and investment ties. We should not get stuck on a beaten track," he said Jaishankar also called for setting "quantifiable targets and specific timelines" to achieve more in expanding the ties between the two countries.
"I would urge that we set ourselves some quantifiable targets and specific timelines so that we challenge ourselves to achieve more, perhaps even surpass what we set out to do," he said.
"Each working Group and each sub Group could apply itself to setting of targets and see what we could achieve by the next session of the IRIGC-TEC," he said.
"For example, if you are looking at trade barriers, could we pick a certain number and make a commitment? If we have agreed to a certain proposal, can we set a firm timeline for that?" he said.
Jaishankar also pitched for a "coordination mechanism" between the business forum and the different working groups of the IRIGC to ensure a two-way flow of ideas.
"We will like the IRIGC to become even more result-oriented, relevant and readily available to the business communities of the two sides," he said.&nbsp;

The visit comes against the backdrop of strains in India's ties with the US following President Donald Trump doubling tariffs on Indian goods to 50 per cent that included an additional penalty of 25 per cent for purchasing Russian crude oil.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), announcing Jaishankar's trip, said he will co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation to be held on Wednesday.
Jaishankar and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov are also expected to discuss the latest initiatives by the Trump administration to bring peace to Ukraine.
During the visit, the external affairs minister will review the bilateral agenda and share perspective on regional and global issues with the Russian foreign minister, the MEA said in a brief statement.
"The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding and time-tested India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic partnership," it added.&nbsp;

India's military action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack marked a "new normal" in combatting cross-border terrorism with a five-point approach that included a firm response to terror acts, not yielding to nuclear blackmail and that blood and water cannot flow together, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
During a special discussion on Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar also vehemently asserted that Washington did not play any role in ending the India-Pakistan conflict in May and said there was no phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump during those crucial weeks.
Though a combative Jaishankar took on the previous Congress governments on a range of issues, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack and the policy on China and Pakistan, a major highlight of his nearly 40-minute address was his articulation of the "new normal" in combating terrorism emanating from Pakistan.
"The challenge of cross-border terrorism continues but Operation Sindoor marks a new phase. There is now a new normal.
"The new normal has five points. One, terrorists will not be treated as proxies. Two, cross-border terrorism will get an appropriate response. Three, terror and talks are not possible together. There will only be talks on terror." "Four, not yielding to nuclear blackmail. And finally, terror and good neighbourliness cannot coexist. Blood and water cannot flow together," he said.
A day after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, India announced a series of punitive measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, with New Delhi asserting that "blood and water" cannot flow together.
The external affairs minister also called for a united approach within India in dealing with terrorism, saying it was best reflected when parliamentary delegations visited various countries to apprise them of Operation Sindoor and India's policy on terrorism.
"We can only succeed in ensuring Zero Tolerance against Terrorism if we have a united voice in this country against terrorism. There must not be any division of opinion on this matter," he said.
"The way the parliamentary delegations behaved abroad, I hope the same solidarity will permeate the proceedings of the House," Jaishankar said.
Another highlight of the external affairs minister's address was his assertion that Washington had no direct role in ending the military conflict between India and Pakistan.
"I want to make two things very clear-- one, at no stage, in any conversation with the United States, was there any linkage with trade and what was going on," he said.
"Secondly, there was no talk between the Prime Minister and President Trump from the April 22 (on the day of Pahalgam attack) when President (Donald) Trump called up to convey his sympathy, and on June 17, when he called up the prime minister in Canada to explain why he could not meet," Jaishankar added.
Trump repeatedly claimed that he used trade to stop the military conflict between the two nuclear powers.
Jaishankar also made a mention of leaders from several countries contacting the Indian side following the Pahalgam attack.
"To everybody, we gave a common message (that) India is exercising its right to defend itself against terrorism (and there) will be no mediation," he said.
"We received phone calls sharing the impression of other countries that Pakistan was ready to cease the fighting. Our position was that if Pakistan was ready, we needed to get this request from the Pakistani side through the DGMO (Director General of Military Operations). That is exactly how that request came," he said.
Jaishankar also asserted that New Delhi's diplomatic efforts led to the US designating The Resistance Force (TRF) as a global terrorist organisation.
The TRF, a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), had claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack.
"Thanks to our diplomacy-- the TRF has been designated as a global terrorist organisation by the US Government," he said.

Earlier, the US State Department said it is adding TRF as a designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).
The US State Department also noted that the TRF claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam attack which killed 26 civilians.
"This was the deadliest attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks conducted by LeT," it said.
"TRF has also claimed responsibility for several attacks against Indian security forces, including most recently in 2024," it said.
"TRF and other associated aliases have been added to LeT's designation as a FTO and SDGT pursuant to Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224, respectively. The Department of State has also reviewed and maintained the FTO designation of LeT," Rubio said.
The State Department said its actions demonstrates the Trump administration's commitment to "protecting our national security interests, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump's call for justice for the Pahalgam attack".

India and China should build on "good progress" in normalising the bilateral ties to address border-related issues including de-escalation, and it is essential to avoid "restrictive trade measures and roadblocks", External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Monday during talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
In his opening remarks at the meeting, Jaishankar said the bilateral relations can develop in a "positive trajectory" on the foundation that differences should not become disputes and nor should competition become a conflict, adding that the ties can be built only on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity.
The external affairs minister said India hopes "zero tolerance for terrorism" will be upheld at the upcoming meeting of the SCO, noting that its primary mandate is to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism, comments seen as a reference to Pakistan's support to cross-border terrorism.
In New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), describing the talks as "constructive and forward-looking", said the two sides agreed to take "additional practical steps", including travel to each other&rsquo;s country and direct flight connectivity, for facilitating people-to-people exchanges.
Jaishankar met Wang hours after he landed in China on a two-day visit to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). It is his first visit to the neighbouring country since bilateral ties witnessed severe downturn following the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020.
The MEA said the external affairs minister underlined the need for cooperation on trans-border rivers, including the resumption of the provision of hydrological data by the Chinese side.
Jaishankar also held talks with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and conveyed to him that continued normalisation of bilateral ties can lead to mutually beneficial outcomes.
In the last nine months, India and China have been engaged in normalising their relations after ending the military face-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in October last year.
Though the two sides disengaged troops from the friction points, they are yet to de-escalate the situation by pulling back the frontline forces from the border. Each side currently has around 50,000 to 60,000 troops along the LAC in the eastern Ladakh region.
In his remarks at the meeting with Wang, Jaishankar underlined the need for avoiding "restrictive" trade measures and "roadblocks", in an apparent reference to Beijing's approach on the export of critical minerals as well as issues relating to the supply of fertilisers.
"We have made good progress in the past nine months for the normalisation of our bilateral relations. It is a result of the resolution of friction along the border and our ability to maintain peace and tranquility there," he said.
"This is the fundamental basis for mutual strategic trust and for smooth development of bilateral relations. It is now incumbent on us to address other aspects related to the border, including de-escalation," the external affairs minister said.
Jaishankar also repeated New Delhi's consistent position that India-China ties should be based on "mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity".
"As neighbouring nations and major economies in the world today, there are various facets and dimensions of our ties. Measures towards normalizing our people--to--people exchanges can certainly foster mutually beneficial cooperation," he said.
"It is also essential in this context that restrictive trade measures and roadblocks are avoided. I hope to discuss these issues in further detail." The external affairs minister noted that "stable and constructive" ties between India and China are not only to each other's benefit, but that of the world as well.
"This is best done by handling relations on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity." "We have also earlier agreed that differences should not become disputes, nor should competition ever become conflict. On this foundation, we can now continue to develop our ties along a positive trajectory," he said.
Jaishankar said the bilateral relationship requires both sides taking a "far-seeing approach" even as he referred to a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan in October last year.
Since our leaders' meeting, the India-China relationship has been gradually moving in a positive direction, he said, adding, "Our responsibility is to maintain that momentum." "In recent times, the two of us have had several opportunities to meet at international events and carry out strategic communication. It is our expectation that this will now be regular and take place in each other&rsquo;s countries," Jaishankar added.
The external affairs minister noted that the two sides have marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and appreciated the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after a gap of five years.
The MEA said Jaishankar also highlighted the "positive impact" of peace and tranquility along the frontier for the smooth development of bilateral relations and supported continued efforts towards de-escalation and border management.
Jaishankar and Wang also discussed regional and global issues of common interest and agreed to remain in touch, including through bilateral visits and meetings.
The external affairs minister also wished the Chinese side a successful SCO presidency and that India is committed to ensuring "good outcomes and decisions".
Wang said the current international landscape has undergone profound changes, and unilateral protectionism and bullying by powerful countries have brought severe challenges to the world, according to an official readout in Beijing.
As two major eastern civilisations and major emerging economies living side by side, China and India should live in harmony and achieve mutual success, he said.
Last year, President Xi and Prime Minister Modi reached an important consensus at their meeting in Kazan, which pointed out the direction for the improvement and development of China-India relations, he said.
Wang said India and China should find a way for mutual respect and trust, peaceful coexistence, common development and win-win cooperation. The two sides should stand on high ground, seek long-term strategies, adhere to the direction of good-neighbourliness and friendship, and realize the "Dragon-Elephant Dance", he said.
China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with India to jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system, the stability of the global production and supply chains, Wang added.
In his meeting with Han, Jaishankar said an open exchange of views between the two sides is "very important" considering the "complex" global scenario.
Besides Wang and Han, Jaishankar also met Liu Jianchao, the minister of International Department of the Communist Party of China.
Jaishankar travelled to China less than three weeks after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Chinese port city of Qingdao to participate in the SCO defence ministers' conference.
The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and a deadly clash at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in ties between the two neighbours.
The face-off effectively ended following the completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21 last year.
The decision to revive various dialogue mechanisms was taken at the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi in Kazan.

"We call for the perpetrators, organisers, and financiers of this reprehensible act to be brought to justice without any delay and urge all UN Member States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard," they added.
The Quad foreign ministers also expressed serious concern over Beijing's military muscle-flexing in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.
"We reiterate our strong opposition to any unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo by force or coercion," they said without directly mentioning China.
The Quad foreign ministers specifically highlighted the "dangerous and provocative actions, including interference with offshore resource development, the repeated obstruction of the freedoms of navigation and overflight, and the dangerous manoeuvres by military aircraft and coast guard and maritime militia vessels." In this context, they mentioned the "unsafe use of water cannons and ramming or blocking actions in the South China Sea" and said these actions threaten peace and stability in the region.
"We are seriously concerned by the militarisation of disputed features. We emphasise the importance of upholding freedom of navigation and overflight, other lawful uses of the sea, and unimpeded commerce consistent with international law, as reflected in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS)," the ministers said.
The Quad ministers affirmed that maritime disputes must be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law.
They also underlined the need for implementation of a ruling by the Arbitral Tribunal on July 12, 2016, saying it is a "significant milestone and the basis" for peacefully resolving disputes between the parties.
The international tribunal at The Hague ruled against China's claims in the South China Sea while giving its verdict in a case filed by the Philippines against Beijing's so-called "nine-dash line".
The Quad foreign ministers also voiced deep concern over the "abrupt constriction and future reliability" of key supply chains, specifically for critical minerals, in an apparent reference to China's policy on the matter.
"This includes the use of non-market policies and practices for critical minerals, certain derivative products, and mineral processing technology," the Quad ministers said.
They underscored the importance of diversified and reliable global supply chains.
"Reliance on any one country for processing and refining critical minerals and derivative goods production exposes our industries to economic coercion, price manipulation, and supply chain disruptions, which further harms our economic and national security," they said.
The Quad meeting also announced the grouping's plan to launch a Quad Ports of the Future partnership in Mumbai this year.
The grouping also expressed serious concerns over what it called the "worsening crisis" in Myanmar and its impact on the region.
"We call on the regime to adhere to its commitment to a ceasefire, and call on all parties to implement, extend and broaden ceasefire measures." "We reaffirm our strong support for ASEAN's efforts, including calling for the full and effective implementation of the Five Point Consensus in seeking an inclusive, durable, and peaceful resolution to the crisis," the Quad foreign ministers said.
"We call on all parties to allow safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance. We are also concerned about the impact of the crisis on regional security and the spread of transnational crimes," they said.

Union External Affairs minister S Jaishankar on Friday said India wanted a reference to terrorism in the outcome document of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) defence ministers' meeting, but it was not acceptable to one member country, an oblique reference to Pakistan.
Jaishankar said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's view on the matter was right since the main purpose of SCO was to fight terrorism and without a reference on it (on India's concerns on terrorism), he would not accept the outcome document.
Singh on Thursday refused to sign a joint communique of the SCO following the omission of the Pahalgam terror attack and not explicitly addressing India's concerns over Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism.
At a conference of SCO defence ministers' conclave, Singh demanded inclusion of the terror attack in the communique while the Pakistani side pressed for having a paragraph on militant activities in Balochistan in an apparent attempt to blame New Delhi, top sources said.
The objective of SCO that runs through consensus was to fight terrorism, Jaishankar said in a press conference when asked about Singh's stand.
"In the discussion on outcome document of the defence ministers' meeting, one country -- you can guess which one -- said 'no we don't want reference to that'," he said.
The SCO runs by unanimity, Jaishankar said, but when one country said it will not accept any mention of terrorism, Singh communicated that the outcome document was not acceptable to India.&nbsp;

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen here and praised her "strong condemnation" of the Pahalgam attack and solidarity in combating terrorism.
Jaishankar called on the top EU leader during his visit to Belgium and Luxembourg.
"Pleased to call on @EU_Commission President @vonderleyen this morning. Welcomed her strong condemnation of terrorist attack in Pahalgam and solidarity in combatting terrorism," he said in an X post.
The April 22 Pahalgam terror attack claimed 26 lives, following which tensions between India and Pakistan escalated. India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.
During the meeting, Jaishankar and von der Leyen also discussed efforts that are underway to deepen the India-EU partnership.
"Agreed on the potential benefits of stronger cooperation in trade, technology, connectivity and security for both our regions," Jaishankar added.
Von der Leyen also took to X after the meeting and said, "The EU-India strategic partnership is getting stronger." "We&rsquo;re working on a Strategic Agenda based on growth with an ambitious FTA, tech &amp; innovation and security &amp; defence. I look forward to adopting it with @narendramodi at our next Summit," she said.
In June 2022, India and the 27-nation bloc resumed negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, an investment protection agreement and a pact on Geographical Indications after a gap of over eight years.
The negotiations stalled in 2013 due to differences over the level of opening up of the markets.
On February 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission chief agreed to seal the much-awaited free trade deal by the end of this year.
Jaishankar met members of the European Parliament on Monday along with the Indian Ambassador to the EU, Belgium and Luxembourg, Saurabh Kumar.
In a post on X, he said it was &ldquo;good to meet&rdquo; David McAllister, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Sandro Gozi, Chair of the Delegation to EU-UK Parliamentary Assembly, and Greek parliamentarian Nikos Papandreou.
The meetings followed an interaction with members of the Indian community on Monday evening.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar held wide-ranging discussions with his Belgium counterpart Maxime Prevot on deepening bilateral cooperation, including in trade, investment, technology, defence and security, clean energy and mobility.
During his week-long tour of Europe, Jaishankar will also hold talks with leaders of the European Union and France to boost bilateral ties and reaffirm India's policy of zero-tolerance against terrorism.
