The vehicle was crushed under the truck, leaving the driver trapped and fatally injured. CCTV footage later captured the sequence of events leading to the crash.
Visuals from the site showed the Bolero completely flattened under the overturned truck. According to witnesses and the footage, the Bolero began turning at a highway cut while the loaded truck approached from behind. As the Bolero made the sudden turn, the truck swerved towards the central divider, lost balance, and fell onto the SUV.

The collision caused significant traffic disruption on the highway, with vehicles stuck for nearly three hours. Police, along with rescue teams from Ganj Kotwali, Civil Lines, and Nagar Kotwali, responded promptly. They used four cranes, two bulldozers, and later a JCB machine to lift the truck, clear the wood shavings, and remove the Bolero. Traffic was diverted via alternative routes, and partial movement was restored after several hours of clearance work.
Firasat, a resident of Gujar Tola, was driving the Bolero belonging to an electricity department SDO. Around 4:30 pm, he had dropped the SDO at the Khoud substation and was returning home, which was about one kilometre from the Pahadi Gate intersection.&nbsp;
Police said that while turning from the highway cut, Firasat did not notice the approaching truck. By the time he realized it, the Bolero had already crossed half the road. The truck driver tried to avoid a direct collision by steering towards the divider, but the front wheel mounted the divider, causing the truck to tilt and crush the Bolero.
The force of the impact left Firasat trapped between the steering and the cabin, with fatal injuries. Police described that his head was flattened and the spine shattered due to the extreme pressure. It took rescuers approximately thirty minutes to lift the truck sufficiently to access the SUV. The Bolero was carefully cut open, and Firasat&rsquo;s body was removed after stabilizing the truck and partially removing its load of wood shavings.
The truck driver was injured in the incident and taken to a hospital but reportedly fled after around thirty minutes of treatment.
Senior officers, including SP Vidyasagar Mishra, visited the scene to supervise the operations. The truck was later moved to the police station compound. A traffic backlog of nearly two kilometres had formed due to the accident and clearance work. SP Mishra stated: &ldquo;Officials have been instructed to investigate the matter. The body of the Bolero driver has been sent for post-mortem. The family has been informed about the incident. The truck driver has fled and a search is underway. The truck has been parked at the police station.&rdquo;
Police confirmed that the Bolero driver&rsquo;s family had been notified and legal formalities were underway.

Quoting police, the report said Singh never hit the brakes of his truck before slamming into the traffic. It also said that toxicology tests confirmed impairment. He has been arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.&nbsp;
Singh, an illegal immigrant, crossed the southern border of the US in 2022 and was released pending an immigration hearing, according to the report.&nbsp;
He was not in lawful immigration status, the report said, quoting US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sources, adding that the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged an immigration detainer following his arrest.&nbsp;
Singh was released under the Biden administration&rsquo;s 2022 "alternatives to detention" policy, it said. This is the second such incident since August in which an Indian-origin trucker has been accused of causing a deadly crash in the US.&nbsp;
On August 12, Harjinder Singh, 28, allegedly made an illegal U-turn in his tractor-trailer in Florida, causing a deadly crash which killed three people. He faces three counts of vehicular homicide.&nbsp;
Following the incident, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had announced a pause to all issuances of commercial truck driver work visas.&nbsp;

Police said the woman driver of the BMW was taken into custody on Monday following her discharge from the hospital. A case of culpable homicide has been registered in the matter.
"Many bystanders were recording videos of the accident site immediately after it happened, but did not help. I was driving a loading vehicle, stopped and rushed the injured to a hospital in Azadpur after the man and the woman in the car asked me to take them there," Mohammad Gulfam told PTI.
"They were in a serious condition. I didn't wait for an ambulance. With the help of some people, I took them all to a hospital in Azadpur. After 20 to 25 minutes, the doctor declared Navjot Singh dead," he added.
Gulfam said that Singh's wife, despite her injuries, gave him their home address. "She was also severely injured. She gave me an address, so I came here to see their family. I tried to save all of them, but couldn't," he said.
Police have reached the finance ministry official's house to record Gulfam's statement.
Singh's wife, in her complaint to the police, had said, "After the accident, we were rushed to a hospital in a van-type vehicle. The couple who were accused of hitting us (motorcycle) asked the van driver repeatedly to take us to GTB Nagar. I was requesting him to take us to a nearby hospital." On Sunday, Singh's son said his parents were returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and had stopped at Karnataka Bhawan for eating.
"They were on their way to Hari Nagar via Dhaula Kuan when the incident happened. Instead of taking them to a nearby hospital, they were taken (to a hospital) nearly 22 km from the accident site. My mother suffered a head injury, even though she was wearing a helmet, and a fractured femur," he had told PTI Videos.
He also alleged negligence on the part of the hospital authorities in admitting his parents.
The son claimed that his mother was made to sit in the lobby at the hospital despite her serious condition, while the husband of the BMW driver, who suffered minor injuries, was immediately admitted.
"Because of this negligence and delay, my father was declared dead, and my mother kept screaming in pain," he added.
The family later shifted her to Venkateshwara Hospital for better treatment. "My mother, who is a teacher, is devastated, and so are we," he had said.
According to police, the luxury car and the two-wheeler involved in the collision have been seized, and a forensic examination of the accident site has been conducted.

They have been admitted to a hospital and their statements are yet to be recorded, police said.

The accident occurred around 5.30 am near the Jamuniya forest under the Mohanpur Police Station limits when the bus collided with the commercial vehicle, they said.
"Six devotees were killed and 24 others injured in the accident at Jamuniya Chowk in Deoghar. Eight of the 24 injured have been shifted to AIIMS, Deoghar, while the remaining are undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital," Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra said.
Earlier, Inspector General (Dumka Zone) Shailendra Kumar Sinha told PTI that the accident occurred after the bus with Kanwariyas on board collided head-on with the truck transporting gas cylinders.
Following the collision, the driver fell from the bus and the passenger vehicle, without anyone behind the steering wheel, continued moving for some time and stopped after hitting a stack of bricks, the IG said.
The bus was severely damaged, he added.
However, MP Nishikant Dubey, in a post on X, claimed that 18 Kanwariyas lost their lives in the accident.
"Eighteen devotees have died in a bus-truck accident during the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Shravan in Deoghar in my Lok Sabha constituency. May Baba Baidyanath Ji give strength to their families to bear the loss," he posted on X.
However, the police confirmed that only six people lost their lives, while the condition of two others is serious.
Kanwariyas are devotees of Lord Shiva.
At least 24 Kanwariyas were injured in the accident and taken to various hospitals and nearby primary health centres, including the Saraiyahat PHC in Dumka, another officer said.
Casualties may increase as the condition of several injured is serious, he added.
The district administration has been alerted after the accident, he said.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled the death of the Kanwariyas and said a rescue operation was being conducted by the district administration there.
"Very sad news has been received about the deaths of devotees travelling in a bus in an accident near Jamuniya chowk in Mohanpur block of Deoghar." "The district administration is providing medical assistance to the injured with relief and rescue operations. May Baba Baidyanath grant peace to the souls of the devotees who died in the accident and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this moment of grief," Soren posted on X.
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar also expressed grief over the accident.
"The news of the death of many devotees in the bus accident while Kanwariyas were going to Basukinath from Deoghar is extremely sad and painful. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray to Baba Bholenath for speedy recovery of the injured devotees," Gangwar posted on X.
Deoghar Sub Divisional Officer Ravi Kumar said the Kanwariyas were on their way to the Basukinath temple.
As per the Civil Surgeon, Deoghar, those who died included bus driver Subhash Turi, and others - Suman Kumari from Gaya, Piyush, Vaishali, Durgawati Devi and Janki Devi from Bettiah.

The accident occurred at 6:13 am when a speeding truck broke through a barricade at Battal Ballian area and hit the car ferrying eight pilgrims to the Pahalgam base camp, a security force officer said.
He said CISF personnel were deployed at the barricade when the truck, after hitting the car, jumped the divider and crashed into the wall of a house.
The car was part of the 16th batch of over 7,900 pilgrims, who left Jammu for the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal early this morning.
Out of eight pilgrims, five were injured, he said, adding that the CRPF shifted them to hospital and their condition is stable. The other three sustained superficial injuries.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is going on. The vehicle has been seized.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said that the accident caused panic among the passengers. Passersby in other vehicles informed the police and highway security, added.
"A joint rescue operation was launched to rescue the trapped passengers from the bus. The injured were transported by ambulance to the nearby Saifai Medical College Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the mortuary," said the SSP.
The two deceased have been identified as Shaida (22), a resident of Bardah in Nepal, and Manoj Kumar (52) from Rampur Deeha in Bihar's Darbhanga.
The bus was carrying around 80 passengers.

Five members of a family returning to Delhi from a wedding in Budaun died while one was injured following a road crash in Bulandshahr district of western Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday morning, police said.
The car hit a culvert on the road, overturned, and caught fire which the police said happened because the driver was drowsy.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Tejveer Singh said the incident took place around 5.30 am near Janipur village.
He said the police were alerted that a car had crashed and caught fire. Immediately local police and fire brigade rushed to the site and started rescue-relief works.
"One injured person, identified as Gulnaz (28), was pulled out and taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) while five other people on board the car were dead," Singh said.
The police identified those killed as Zubair (28), Tanveez (26), Momina (24), Zainul (2) and Zeba alias Nida (23).
"Initial probe revealed that all six people had gone to Budaun district for a wedding and were returning from there to Malviya Nagar in Delhi. The driver of the car was drowsy in the morning hours and the vehicle went out of control, hit a culvert and overturned. Eventually it caught fire," the Additional SP said.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem and further legal proceedings are underway, Singh added.

The victims were transporting fruits to a local fair being organised in a place called Yellapura. The driver of the truck swerved to the extreme left in a bid to allow a vehicle that was trying to overtake from behind around 5:30 am, the Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police M Narayana told PTI.&nbsp;
"As the road in the section doesn't have barrier walls on the edge, the truck fell in about 50-metre-deep valley, killing at least nine persons. The injured have been shifted to the KIMS Hospital in Hubballi," the officer said.&nbsp;
In a different accident, at least four persons including three students were killed and ten others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned near Araginamara Camp in Sindhanur, Raichur district.&nbsp;
These students of Mantralaya Sanskrit Pathashala were on a pilgrimage to Hampi to offer prayers at Narahari Temple.&nbsp;
Deceased students have been identified as Aryavandan (18), Sucheendra (22) and Abhilash (20). Driver Shiva (24) too died in this accident.&nbsp;
The 10 injured people have been admitted to a local hospital. Sindhanur Traffic Police Station registered a case.

The truck hit the bus on its side, police said.
Injured passengers were taken to Christian Medical College, Vellore, Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences and other local hospitals, said Sainath. Police registered a case under section 106 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The truck driver is absconding, police said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh S said, "The accident occurred near the Barkheda Jaipal crossroads on the Bareilly-Etawah highway when a family travelling to Delhi in an Ertiga car collided with an oncoming truck late Wednesday night."
The deceased were identified as Riyazul Ali (45), Amna (42), Gudiya (9), Tamanna 'Anu' (32), and Noor (6). Gulfisha (25) later succumbed to injuries at a government hospital.
Riyazul, a resident of Kant town in Shahjahanpur, was engaged in the garment business in Delhi, the police said.
"The family had left for Delhi at around 10 PM on Wednesday night after attending a wedding. Their vehicle met with the fatal collision shortly thereafter," the SP said.
Chief Medical Superintendent of the Government Medical College Dr Nepal Singh said five seriously injured people were brought here, of whom Gulfisha (25) died during treatment.
In addition to this, a seriously injured patient was referred to Bareilly. The condition of two of the three patients admitted here remains serious.
Police said they had taken the truck driver into custody and seized the vehicle.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
In a statement, he directed district officials to ensure the injured receive proper treatment and prayed for their speedy recovery.

Under the Farishtey Scheme, 494 hospitals, including 90 tertiary care hospitals, have been specifically empaneled to cover a 30 km stretch along national and state highways/roads.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), approximately 1,400 road accidents and 400 deaths occur every day in India, with Punjab alone accounting for around 5,000 accidental deaths annually. The Farishtey Scheme aims to address this critical issue by providing comprehensive treatment to accident victims, without any capping on the amount.
The state flagship scheme, aimed at reducing the mortality and morbidity rates resulting from injuries sustained in roadside accidents and to provide immediate, hassle-free treatment in government and empaneled private hospitals, was notified on January 25, 2024. The scheme is applicable to all the victims and sufferers of road accidents that happened in the territory of the state of Punjab irrespective of the caste, creed, nationality and place of birth of the victims and provides comprehensive treatment to accident victims, without any capping on the amount.
Divulging details, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) State Health Agency (SHA) Punjab Ms Babita said that to encourage common people to come forth and help accident victims and save the lives of the victims, such &ldquo;Farishteys&rdquo; are being felicitated with cash rewards, commendation certificates and provided immunity from legal complications and police inquiries. &ldquo;Any person who voluntarily rescue the accident victims and help them in saving their lives, will be considered as &lsquo;Farishta&rsquo; and conferred with commendation certificate and a cash prize of Rs 2000,&rdquo; she said.
The CEO said that since its launch, the scheme has provided free medical treatment to as many as 223 accident victims, showcasing its effectiveness in reducing mortality rates resulting from road accidents. So far, 66 "Farishtas" (good Samaritans) have been registered with the State Health Agency (SHA) Punjab, she added.
She said that the Chief Minister of Punjab has recognised the selfless efforts of 16 Farishtas, by awarding them a cash incentive of Rs 2000 per victim on August 15, 2024, and a commendation certificates, with their awards aptly named the "Farishey Award". The remaining Farishtas have also been recognised, receiving their awards from the Deputy Commissioners in their respective districts, she added.
Under the Farishtey Scheme, 494 hospitals, including 90 tertiary care hospitals, have been specifically empaneled to cover a 30 km stretch along national and state highways/roads, ensuring treatment during the critical golden hour.
Ms Babita said that these hospitals are integrated with the Mapple application (a mobile app), a mobile app that helps the people to search and navigate to the nearby empaneled hospital.
The scheme is also linked to emergency helplines, including 108, 1033, and 112 Sadak Surakhiya Force (SSF), which use IT systems to locate the nearest hospital for quick transportation, with hospitals within a 30 km radius providing immediate care within the golden hour, she said, while adding that the 108-ambulance staff have been trained to manage and transport accident victims to the nearest hospitals.
The CEO said that if an empaneled hospital demands payment, beneficiaries can file a complaint with the SHA Punjab or register their grievance at 104 Medical helplines.

Victims and Response The deceased have been identified as Kannis Fatima Ansari, Shivam Kashyap, Afreen Abdul Salim Shah, and Anam Shaikh. Local residents rushed the injured to Bhabha Hospital, while emergency services, including the police and fire brigade, promptly arrived at the scene. Many of the injured are still receiving treatment.

Investigation Underway Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Ganesh Gawde confirmed the driver's detention and announced an inquiry to determine the cause. A forensic team inspected the site, and CCTV footage showing the speeding bus is being analyzed. A case has been registered as investigations continue.

The Ministry of Road Transport has approved a proposal for road accident victims to access free cashless treatment in hospitals across India. However, this is available only in hospitals that is empanelled with the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
<h3>Cashless treatment for road accident victims</h3>
The upper limit for the treatment will be Rs 1.5 lakh, covering up to 10 days of hospitalization. The cost of the treatment will be borne by insurance companies. The initiative also aims to ensure timely medical assistance during the 'golden hour' - the first 60 minutes after the accident.
As per many studies, giving proper care during the golden hour saves about 50% of the lives. In 2022, India reported a record high of 1.68 lakh road fatalities.
<h3>Implementation of Proposal</h3>
An inter-ministerial consultation was conducted on the proposal and it was included in the amended Central Motor Vehicle Act of 2019. As per The Economic Times, the scheme will be implemented soon, with no financial burden on the public exchequer.
Insurance companies will also not bear a big burden as this will cover only a fraction of&nbsp;the third-party insurance premiums they collect. The firms will also benefit from a significant reduction in compensation payouts when the fatality rates are reduced.
As per Road Ministry, the average medical expenses for around 97% of road crash cases amount to approximately Rs 60,000. Only a small number of victims require extended hospitalization and intensive care.
Union Transport Secretary Anurag Jain announced that the cashless scheme will be integrated into the final scheme, which will be launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in the near future.

Eight people, including a child, were charred to death in their SUV after it was hit by an oncoming truck and caught fire in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, police said on Sunday.
The driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle after it suffered a tyre puncture. It jumped the barrier onto other side of the road and was hit by the truck coming from the opposite direction, they said.
The accident occurred late on Saturday near the Dubhaura village on the Bareilly-Nainital Road, they added.
By the time the police reached the spot, the SUV was engulfed by the flames, the police said.
Superintendent of Police Sushil Chandrabhan confirmed the deaths of the eight people, including the child.
The victims are yet to be identified.

At least eight people including three women and a child were killed and several others injured when their vehicle hit a stationary truck in Odisha&rsquo;s Keonjhar district early Friday, police said.
The accident took place on National Highway 20 near Balijodi village in Ghatagon area when the occupants of the vehicle were going to visit a temple.
While seven people died on the spot, another succumbed at a hospital.
Five of the injured people were undergoing treatment at Keonjhar district headquarters hospital, while three others were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.
A total of 20 people from Pudamari village in Ganjam district were on their way to have a darshan of Goddess Trarini, police said.
It is suspected that the driver dozed off leading to the accident that took place barely three km away from the temple.
The police have started an investigation.
