12 killed, 23 injured in road accident on Samruddhi Mahamarg; 100 fatalities in nine months 

Samruddhi Mahamarg, officially known as Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, is a 701-km stretch connecting Mumbai and Nagpur.

Twelve persons, including a four months old child, died after a mini bus lost control and rammed into a container on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra&rsquo;s Aurangabad on Sunday.
According to the police, the victims were travelling to Nashik from Buldhana Sailani Bana Dargah when their minibus rammed into a container truck early in the morning.
Around 23 people were injured in the collision.
The accident is the latest in a series of major accidents that have repeatedly occurred on the expressway, raising safety concerns.
A total of 729 accidents have taken place on the expressway between December 2022 and August this year of which 46 were fatal, resulting in the death of 101 people, The Indian Express reported quoting officials.

The government girls higher secondary school in Khanyar in Srinagar has been named after Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ayoub Pandit.

Jammu and Kashmir administration has named 57 schools and roads after martyrs and eminent personalities, including Makhan Lal Bindroo, the Kashmiri Pandit owner of a pharmacy in Srinagar, and DSP Mohammad Ayoub Pandit, who was lynched near the same city's Jamia Masjid in 2017.
The move is part of the Lieutenant Governor administration&rsquo;s decision to name public places after those who gave up their life in the "service of the nation." "Sanction is hereby accorded to naming of infrastructure assets after the martyrs, eminent personalities," an order issued by Secretary to government, General Administration Department, Piyush Singla, said.

57-year-old Pandit was stripped and beaten to death with rods outside Jamia Masjid on June 23, 2017.

The government higher secondary school in Ghagwal (Kathua) has been named after Major Rohit Kumar, the order said.
Major Rohit Kumar and Major Anuj Rajput were on a training sortie when their Cheetah helicopter crashed in Shiv Garh Dhar near Patnitop on September 21, 2021. Both died in the crash.
The government primary school in Shamsabad was named after Inspector Shabir Ahmed Bhat, who was killed by terrorists in Srinagar.

Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari o said that he wants to introduce skybuses on select stretches of Delhi and Haryana to reduce traffic and pollution.
Gadkari further said that climate agenda is the highest priority for the government as economic growth with pollution is not a good strategy.
"I want to start skybuses (mass transit service) from Dhaula Kuan to Manesar and later extend it to Sohna to reduce traffic and pollution," he said, without providing more details.
The minister was addressing an event organised by Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
Gadkari said his dream is to reduce import of fossil fuels in India to zero.
The minister said the government's priority is to make green hydrogen from water.
Gadkari emphasised on the need to encourage use of ethanol for transportation purpose as it is economically cheaper, pollution-free and indigenous.
"Ethanol is going to increase agriculture growth in the country as we will manufacture ethanol from rice," he said.
Gadkari also noted that banning thermal power plants will not be good for the economy

A campaign to rename sites linked to Delhi's Muslim rule past is gathering steam. May 10 saw multiple such attempts, involving major political parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party, and lesser-known groups like the Mahakal Manav Seva.
Qutub Minar, the 12th century monument in Delhi was targeted by the Mahakal Manav Seva. The Hindu group organised a Hanuman Chalisa recitation near Qutub Minar to demand that the monument be renamed as Vishnu Stambh. They were detained by police later.
Recently, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad had said that 27 Hindu temples were demolished to build the Qutub Minar and the mosque on the premises. Therefore, temples should be built again in the area, and Hindus should be granted permission to pray there, the VHP had demanded.
Meanwhile, the chief of BJP's Delhi unit demanded that roads in the national capital named after Mughal figures should be rechristened. Adesh Gupta said that the names of these streets were a sign of slavery.
The BJP leader said that Tughlaq Road should be renamed Guru Gobind Singh Marg, Akbar Road should be Maharana Pratap Road, Humayun Road should be Maharishi Valmiki Road, and Shahjahan Road should be General Bipin Singh Rawat Road.
The BJP leader made this appeal in a letter to the New Delhi Municipal Council.
