<p>Actor Rukmini Vasanth to star as Kanakavathi in <em data-start="311" data-end="331">Kantara: Chapter 1</em> alongside Rishab Shetty. The much-awaited prequel hits theatres on October 2.</p>

<p>Actor Rukmini Vasanth is set to feature alongside Rishab Shetty in "Kantara: Chapter 1", the makers said on Friday.</p>
<p>Vasanth made her acting debut in 2019 with the Kannada film "Birbal Trilogy Case 1: Finding Vajramuni". She later went on to star in projects such as "Baanadariyalli", "Bagheera", and her latest film "Ace", where she acted alongside Vijay Sethupathi.</p>
<p>Slated to release in theatres worldwide on October 2, the pan-India movie from Hombale Films is the prequel to 2022&rsquo;s National Award-winning &ldquo;Kantara&rdquo;, it is written, directed and fronted by Shetty.</p>
<p>Production banner shared the news with a post on its official Instagram handle. It featured the poster from the film featuring Vasanth. The 28-year-old actor will essay the role of Kanakavathi in the film.</p>

<p>The story of &ldquo;Kantara&rdquo; was set around a small community living in the woodlands of Kaadubettu in the southern coastal state of Karnataka.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Kantara&rdquo;, which was mounted on a reported budget of Rs 16 crore, went on to earn over Rs 400 crore across the globe. It won the National Award for Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and earned Shetty his first best actor National Award at the 70th National Film Awards.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kannada actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty, who recently won a National Film Award for his role in the Kannada film &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;, has taken a dig at Bollywood. In a recent interview, Shetty criticised Bollywood for depicting India negatively at international film festivals. He emphasized his desire to present a positive image of India through his own films.</p>
<p>In an interview with MetroSaga, Rishab Shetty shared his opinion on Bollywood and said, &lsquo;Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet welcome. My nation, my state, my language is my pride. Why not show it on a positive note? That's what I am trying to do.&rsquo;</p>
<p>The interview clip is now going viral on social media.</p>
<p>Shetty&rsquo;s comments on Bollywood have sparked backlash from some quarters. Critics have pointed out his scenes with Sapthami Gowda in Kantara, accusing him of hypocrisy. The film&rsquo;s intimate scenes were criticised for objectifying women and raising concerns about consent.</p>

<p>On August 16, the 70th National Film Awards were announced, and Rishab Shetty won Best Actor for &lsquo;Kantara&rsquo;. He expressed his gratitude for the honour and thanked his entire team for their support.</p>
<p>&nbsp;He said, &lsquo;I am truly overwhelmed by the honour of this National Award for Kantara. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey, the incredible team of artists, technicians and especially Hombale Films.&rsquo;</p>
<p>Rishab Shetty continued, &lsquo;The audiences have made this film what it is and their support fills me with a deep sense of responsibility. I am committed to working even harder to bring an even better film to our viewers. With utmost respect, I dedicate this award to our Kannada audience, the Daiva Nartakas and Appu sir. <p>On the work front, Shetty is currently shooting &lsquo;Kantara: Chapter 1&rsquo;, a prequel to the original film. The movie is anticipated to release in early 2025, though an official confirmation is still pending.</p>
