However, planning for retirement is a crucial aspect of securing your future financial well-being. The recent India Retirement Index study conducted by Max Life Insurance indicates that awareness regarding retirement has increased in urban India. This points to a positive trend in retirement preparedness, and this rise is attributed to a significant increase in health awareness.
However, Kartik Jhaveri believes most people begin contemplating retirement planning as they enter their mid-40s, primarily because they can visualise retirement on the horizon. This trend has been consistent over the years, with the focus on retirement gradually increasing as people age.
Retirement planning might not rank high on the priority list for those just starting their careers. The early years are often dedicated to fulfilling immediate desires like gadgets, travel, or investments driven by market trends. However, as responsibilities grow, such as having a family or acquiring properties, retirement planning gains prominence. The earlier one starts, the more advantageous it is due to the power of compounding, Jhaveri adds.&nbsp;
He recommends initiating retirement planning from your very first salary, and emphasises that even small monthly contributions, such as through Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), can grow into a sizable corpus over time.&nbsp;
Talking about investment strategies Jhaveri says that, equity investments are essential for building a robust retirement corpus due to their historical returns. While fixed deposits offer stability, equity investments can yield between 12% to 15% return over extended periods. Various options are available for equity investment, including SIPs, stock portfolios recommended by brokerage firms, small cases, and direct stock purchases. Equity investments have the added advantage of favourable taxation.

Indians are demonstrating gradual headway in their retirement planning efforts, despite a prevailing lack of adequate retirement funds in the country, as indicated by a Max Life Insurance survey.
The India Retirement Index Study (IRIS), in collaboration with data analytics firm KANTAR, displayed a notable rise from 44 to 47 in the index, reflecting improved retirement planning perspectives. Surveying 2,093 participants across 28 Indian cities, the study assessed views on health, finance, and emotions.
Max Life's CEO Prashant Tripathy highlighted the emerging focus on health-related concerns, including health insurance and regular check-ups, though physical well-being was often overlooked. The survey revealed 44% possessing health insurance, with 58% undergoing health evaluations within the past three years. Tripathy noted robust health awareness in the eastern region and Tier 2 cities.
Regarding financial planning, the study unveiled that 90% of respondents regretted not initiating savings earlier, and 40% estimated their savings would sustain them for a mere 10 years post-retirement. Moreover, 40% of individuals hadn't yet commenced retirement investments. Tripathy emphasized India's gradual strides in retirement planning but underscored the insufficiency of retirement funds. He noted the existence of financial preparedness gaps in the landscape.

The new pensions bill will raise the retirement age to 64 from 62 which unions see as a broader threat to the French social model. Another change that will be incorporated is that citizens will have to work for 43 years, currently 42, to be able to avail a full pension.&nbsp;
Opinion polls suggest that most French voters are opposed to the bill which is under debate in the French Senate this week.

However, the hard-hitting opener will continue to lead the Aussies in the T20Is. 
While announcing his retirement, the 35-year-old batter said that he could have tried to play another series, the series against England after the World Cup and that would have been a bit of a fairytale finish to his career at MCG.

He led the Australian team in 54 ODIs and the 50-over match against New Zealand will be his 146th game. 
With 17 centuries, he is only behind Ricky Ponting's 29, David Warner and Mark Waugh's 18 hundred's each.

A new study says that using the Internet&nbsp;during your retirement years can boost your cognitive function.

A new study has found that people who use the Internet&nbsp;during their retirement years have better and boosted cognitive functions than those who don&rsquo;t. Researchers from Lancaster University Management School, the Norwegian University Science and Technology and Trinity College Dublin examined the cognitive function of more than 2,000 retired people from across Europe. They found that post-retirement Internet&nbsp;usage is associated with substantially better results.
The study, published in the&nbsp;Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, focused on a sample of 2,105 older people from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland who had been retired since 2004.

A word recall test was conducted where individuals were asked to recall a list of 10 words immediately and then again five minutes later. Results found that, on average, people who used the Internet&nbsp;after they retired were able to recall 1.22 extra words in the recall test compared to non-Internet&nbsp;users.
Interacting with others online, finding out information or simple tasks like shopping online can all make life easier for retirees and boost their cognitive functions. However, it is not yet clear which specific tasks on the Internet&nbsp;are responsible for improving cognitive performance.

Air India on Wednesday announced a voluntary retirement of its employees and has also reduced the retirement age from 55 to 40.
In a communique sent to employees on Wednesday, the airline said that according to the existing regulations of Air India, permanent employees can avail a voluntary retirement if they are of 55 years of age or more and they have worked in the carrier for 20 years. As an additional benefit, the carrier is reducing the age eligibility from 55 years to 40 years for cabin crew members, clerical and allied staff, and unskilled employees, it noted.
An ex-gratia amount will also be provided to the aforementioned employees, who apply for voluntary retirement from June 1, 2022 to July 31, 2022 as a one-time benefit.
Also, employees who apply for voluntary retirement between June 1 and June 30 will also receive an additional incentive over and above the ex-gratia amount, the airline stated.
