Court sources said Khimjibhai was produced before a magistrate in southwest Delhi&rsquo;s Dwarka late Wednesday night and has been sent to five days of police custody. He was not presented at the Tis Hazari court premises, they added.
Police have registered a case against him under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with charges of assaulting and obstructing a public servant from discharging duty.
Officials said Gupta, who was attacked around 8:15 am on Wednesday, underwent a medico-legal case (MLC) examination after being attended by doctors.
Sources revealed that the accused had arrived in Delhi two days before the incident and was staying in Civil Lines, north Delhi.

Talking to reporters after meeting the CM, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that CM Gupta is "shaken", but she is doing fine.
"During the 'Jan Sunwai' this morning, the CM was interacting with the public as usual when a man approached her, handed over some papers and suddenly caught her hand, attempting to pull her towards him.
"In the scuffle that followed, people overpowered him... His identity and other details are being investigated by the police," he added.
The Delhi BJP chief denied reports that the CM was slapped or a stone was pelted at her. Such incidents in politics are unacceptable, he said, adding that 'Jan Sunwai' will continue.
She is taking a rest right now and has made it clear that she will not cancel her scheduled programmes, he added.
The security at the camp office has been beefed up and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been informed about the incident, officials said.
An eyewitness, who was present at 'Jan Sunwai', said, "We all were sitting. A person whose turn came sat with the CM... he was speaking with the CM and suddenly he attacked her. We heard a loud sound. And immediately the police detained the person." Shailender Kumar, a man who had come with a complaint regarding sewer issues in his locality, said, "We heard that someone has slapped the chief minister. This is not right." Former Delhi chief minister and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Atishi also condemned the incident and hoped the chief minister was safe and the police will take strong action against the guilty.

Last week, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, along with Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Singh, chaired a meeting to review the security and other infrastructure in MAMC, Lok Nayak Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, and the Guru Nanak Eye Centre Complex situated in the heart of the national capital.
During the meeting it was found that there were lapses in the security of the students and doctors and there was an acute shortage of accommodation.
Civil infrastructure is in shambles in these hospitals and there is a severe lack of space due to encroachments, officials had informed the LG in the meeting.
Gupta met the doctors on Monday at Delhi Secretariat.
"I am shocked at the irresponsibility of the previous educated governments. It&rsquo;s appalling to see the poor state of such a prestigious institution like Maulana Azad Medical College and the condition of the students studying here," she said.
Students highlighted the poor condition of hostel walls and ceilings, which pose a risk to life and safety, the statement said, adding that the lack of adequate lighting at night inside the campus also makes it unsafe.
Female students particularly raised concerns over the shortage of security guards, insufficient facilities, and an unsafe environment. Encroachments within the campus were also reported as a daily obstacle.
Expressing deep concern over the state of MAMC hostels, Gupta said that the seven hostels built between 1966 and 1990 were designed for only 1,200 students. Currently around 3,200 students are residing there in extremely cramped and substandard conditions with eight beds in a room, shared cupboards and no provision for basic amenities like study tables.
She termed this situation as "gravely concerning" and indicative of the severe negligence and lack of accountability on the part of previous governments.
Gupta directed PWD officials to immediately begin repair and renovation work of the hostels to improve living conditions. She further directed that high-intensity LED street lights be installed across the campus to enhance night-time safety, the statement added.
Additionally, 24x7 CCTV surveillance and increased deployment of security personnel will strengthen overall security. A special drive will be launched to ensure smoother movement and a safer environment within the campus.
She also directed to expedite plan for an additional hostel which has been pending for long time. Gupta directed officials to submit progress reports every 15 days to ensure regular monitoring and accountability.
She also said that she will personally visit the MAMC campus to inspect the situation and engage directly with students. "Students of prestigious institutions like MAMC are our future, and we will extend every possible support to them," Gupta added.

Attacking the previous AAP dispensation, she accused its ministers of turning mandis into "centres of corruption".
"Neither the traders nor the workers were heard, and no effort was made to understand or address the core issues. Those who once promised to turn Delhi into London or Paris should stand here and face the stench. These markets need a complete renovation and we are committed to it," the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said.
She instructed officials to take immediate corrective steps to restore the dignity of both the traders and the public and ensure their safety.
"We will draw up a modernisation plan to develop mandis with better infrastructure, advanced facilities, a secure environment and a corruption-free system. We will begin from the Azadpur Mandi," the chief minister said.
She directed officials to install CCTV cameras across the mandi, starting from all the entry points, to ensure robust security, monitor vehicle movement and prevent discrepancies in registrations and gate entries. She also instructed for the deployment of extra sanitation staff within a week to improve cleanliness.
For infrastructure improvements, the chief minister ordered for immediate renovation of the roads, sheds and toilets within the mandi. A dedicated committee will be assigned to oversee the renovation work and ensure that all facilities are made fully functional.
To ensure basic amenities, the government will install drinking-water stations across the mandi.
A health facility will be set up within the existing Kisan Bhawan building to provide first-aid and emergency medical services. Additionally, an Atal Canteen will be launched to offer affordable meals to workers, serving a full meal for just Rs 5.
The chief minister said the mandi's management will be restructured, including the appointment of a new team and putting in place strict anti-corruption measures.
She ordered a full audit of the mandi's budgets for the last 10 years to examine expenditures and ensure transparency.
"This mandi is the lifeline of Delhi -- it caters to the needs of the entire city and nearby states. It is our responsibility to ensure that these markets are clean, well-managed and free from corruption," she said.
The chief minister assured the traders and workers that her government will continue working to resolve their issues, and that all announced initiatives will be implemented through regular, time-bound action.
Gupta was accompanied by minister Kapil Mishra during the visit.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said notices have been issued to schools against which complaints of arbitrary fee hikes have been received.
These schools have been asked to respond, failing which strict action will be taken against them, the chief minister told PTI.
Addressing a 'Jan Samvad' (public meeting), the chief minister received a complaint about a private school in Model Town allegedly increasing fees and expelling students.
Sharing the incident in a post on X, Gupta said, "Today, a case related to Queen Mary's School in Model Town came up, where parents complained about unjust fee collection and the expulsion of students."
The matter has been taken seriously and officials have been directed to carry out an immediate investigation and take necessary action, she said.
"No school has the right to harass parents over fees or remove students unfairly," she said, adding that all schools are expected to follow set rules and regulations, and any violation will result in action.
"A zero-tolerance policy is in place for any kind of injustice, exploitation or irregularity-- no negligence will be accepted. Our commitment is clear that every child deserves justice, dignity and quality education," Gupta said.
She emphasised that the Delhi government remains committed to transparency, equal opportunity and protection of children's rights in education.

The Delhi Assembly is also set to discuss the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report titled 'Performance Audit Report on Regulation and Supply of Liquor in Delhi' during today&rsquo;s session.&nbsp;
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Gupta presented the CAG report in the Assembly, leading to an uproar from the opposition, who demanded a broader probe into the alleged irregularities in the liquor policy.

Rekha Gupta, an elected MLA from the Shalimar Bagh constituency, has played a key role in BJP&rsquo;s women&rsquo;s wing, serving as the general secretary of the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha and a member of its national executive committee. In these roles, she spearheaded multiple initiatives for the upliftment of marginalized communities and women.
Her political journey began with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). A graduate of Delhi University&rsquo;s Daulat Ram College, she served as the President of the Delhi University Students&rsquo; Union (DUSU) in 1996-97, actively voicing student concerns.&nbsp;
Later, as a councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, she worked on infrastructure projects, including the development of libraries and parks. She also holds an LLB degree and is the founder of AAS, an NGO dedicated to social causes. In 2023, she contested the Delhi mayoral elections but lost to AAP&rsquo;s Shelly Oberoi.
