2000 Red Fort attack case: SC affirms death penalty of LeT terrorist

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the plea of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq seeking review of its judgement awarding death penalty to him in the 2000 Red Fort attack case that left three people, including two Army jawans, dead.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi said that it has accepted the prayers that electronic records be considered.
&ldquo;We have accepted the prayers that electronic records must be placed in consideration. His guilt is proved. We affirm the view taken by this court and reject the review petition,&rdquo; the bench said.

In an alarming incident, shots were fired near the iconic Red Fort in national capital Delhi. At least 3 people were reportedly injured in the shooting. Reports suggested that it was a case of road rage after two two-wheelers collided and an argument ensued between the riders. The incident occurred in Angoori Bagh area on the intervening night of January 31 and February 1. Sadiq claimed that the people who rammed into his two-wheeler weren't ready to adequately compensate him. A physical fight followed, and then the other party opened fire, he said.

The Taj Mahal and other centrally protected monuments, which were closed two months ago in the wake of the second&nbsp;Covid-19&nbsp;wave, will reopen on June 16. The Archaeological Survey of India said that visitors will be able to book entry tickets online and no offline booking facility will be available.
With the second wave of Covid-19 making its presence felt, the government had ordered closure of all centrally protected monuments and museums, including Taj Mahal, Red Fort and Ajanta Caves, on April 15. The monuments were closed for more than 100 days as part of the nationwide lockdown last year.
